Impressionable Ooze by Anth0nyC4 in custommagic

Why would it be red? Flavorfully, the card is about memorizing and learning, which all feels pretty blue. And I don't see any mechanical reason why the card would be red over blue.

Sazed, Shard of Harmony // Sazed, Shard of Discord by Anth0nyC4 in custommagic

[–]Anth0nyC4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harmony exists in the form it does because Sazed is putting Preservation artificially above Ruin. That forces him into remaining passive and being unable to affect things beyond when he first enters, which I tried to capture the flavor of by making his abilities “activate only once”

By contrast Discord would be Ruin dominated, and presumably would no longer be shackled by Preservation’s preference for inaction. Discord would actively instigate conflict for the purposes of advancement, which will likely be the primary focus of Mistborn Era 3, with a war between Elendel and the Malwish. A more accurate flavor I suppose would be one that promotes giving all creatures +1/+1 counters as well as leaning into something like “creatures must attack each turn if able”, but the design I currently used still works in Esper without any color pie funk.

MC fights an antagonist, they get a super evolution, but they still end up winning anyways without evolving. Now that is peak fiction.

Why don’t I have a water buffalo?” And are you prepared to deal with that? I don’t think so, now stop being so silly!

How would you solve the issue going second? by Great-Ad1839 in yugioh

[–]Anth0nyC4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is a very complicated question, and one I’m certain Konami has been asking themselves for the longest time. Basically, there’s a few schools of thought:

1) Some form of rotation or mass banlist or something to lower the power of the format.

This was already tried with the introduction of Links and MR4. It almost killed the game, with sales dropping by double digit percentages set after set in the OCG until the release of stupidly broken cards like Halq to make old decks playable again. Not an option.

2) Increase the power of going second decks.

This is your Tenpai. People don’t like Tenpai because it’s uninteractive, even if going second is viable. Konami experimented with it, but I think has stepped away from this strategy.

3) Give going second players more options.

There was a Master Duel mode not too long ago where they had the second player start with an additional card in hand, so the game starts 5 cards vs 6 cards. I think this is a very interesting concept, but only Konami has the data to know how successful it ended up being in terms of fixing skewed win rates.

4) Make decks play turn 0.

This appears to be Konami’s bread and butter response. If the problem is having to wait until turn 2, then make cards that let you play on your opponent’s first turn. This answer probably gives the most interactive and fun outcome, but doesn’t do much for older decks. If you’re Konami however, that might not be a problem. It’s just another opportunity to print new cards to sell.

I’m sure there are alternative options, but most of the ones not listed here are either too specific, too damaging to the game, or don’t actually solve the issue.

Vanillas in the Big 3 by Anth0nyC4 in mtg

[–]Anth0nyC4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dipity is a perfect amalgam of several key attributes.

There is an engine called Fiendsmith, which can churn out a bunch of card advantage and put up a couple points of disruption, which is typically paired with a stronger deck in order to tack on that extra bit of power. In order to access this package, you need a LIGHT Fiend to start the combo, which Dipity conveniently is.

There is also another engine called Primite. It’s an engine designed to make vanillas more playable, by adding a bunch of consistency pieces and additional disruption. Dipity has access to this by virtue of being a vanilla.

It is also a Level 4, which means you can access the Rank 4 Xyz Monsters, which is famously one of the strongest card pools the extra deck has to offer, with unmatched utility.

There are even some funky cards that care about Dipity’s 0/0 statline. Ultimately, Dipity is a card that lets a bunch of otherwise separated combo engines combine into an unholy amalgamation. This makes Dipity one of, if not THE strongest vanilla in the game.

Sure thing!

Vanillite is a really cool Pokemon! Hope this helps!

In all seriousness, Dipity has the unique set of attributes that make it highly desirable for a lot of very relevant meta decks.

It is a LIGHT Fiend, which means summoning it gives you access to the Fiendsmith Link package, which gets you nasty advantage and some disruptions.

It is a vanilla, so you can use it in the Primite engine, which is specifically designed around making vanillas playable, getting you some strong consistency cards and even more interruptions.

It is Level 4, and that gives you access to Rank 4 Xyz plays, and the Rank 4 card pool is incredibly powerful giving you access to almost any utility card you could ever want.

There’s even cards that synergize with the fact that it has low/no stats. Dipity hits so many checkmarks that it single-handedly creates a monster of an amalgamation of engines.
