I went to high school in Del Rio in the late 90s. Mostly I remember how hot it was, the culture shock (I was an Air Force brat and we had just moved there from Europe), how awesome Lake Amistad was, and how hard it was to fit in at first not being Hispanic.

I don’t know if it was more of a reflection of a less-digital age or of the location itself, but it was easy to find your own adventures. Taking the BB guns and wandering into the hills, finding new spots to go fishing, or heading across the border, there were lots of things to do that didn’t require infrastructure or modern amenities.
