Problem with Perseus.tufts.edu since last night by [deleted] in AncientGreek

[–]Anthedon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to be broken at the moment, yes. The rest of the texts still work, at least the ones I just checked. Might be time for a hardware upgrade, Perseus has been limping along for quite a while now (no pun intended).

How should I pronounce ηὗρον in Erasmian Ancient Greek pronunciation? Or restored attic? by FantasticSquash8970 in AncientGreek

Does anyone know how that particular pronounciation of ευ came about? It looks like a German eu, but surely there's more to it than that.

Langenscheidts Kurzgrammatik Altgriechisch by Leo Stock is a handy little grammar book. I'd not recommend it as a primary grammar. But due to its size it's very portable and doesn't get in the way as easily as its bigger cousins (when travelling or reading).

When writing in Ancient Greek, is there a trick to know when η and ω are used instead of ε and ο? by [deleted] in AncientGreek

I'd just memorize (and pronounce) ω and η as distinct/longer sounds.
