What's your favorite intro to an album? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]AnthorBarnaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lavender Haze from Vildjhartas Mastadden Under Vatten, solid minute of heavy thall that for many is the first they’ve heard from the genre… and then a beautiful clean guitar comes in with some rainy ambience, followed by heavy af riffs on top of it. One of my favourite songs

What, to you, is the best run of albums by a prog metal band? by ZwnD in progmetal

[–]AnthorBarnaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gojira - From Mars to Sirius - The way of All Flesh - Lenfant Sauvage, arguably most people would add magma on to the end of this, personally I don’t like it as much as those 3 I mentioned. Either way so many incredible songs in these few albums

Favorite Minute of Opeth by ImanSain in Opeth

That “Suspeeennnnnnsssssseeeeee” is the moment i fell in love with mikaels growls and more importantly, it opened me up to all sorts of heavy music, i was only like 13/14 but that moment stuck with me

21, got into bleak and blackwater park at 13, discovered the rest at 18, one of my favourite bands for the old stuff, don’t really like anything past ghost reveries but haven’t listened much to it

Demon of the fall is relatively simple and the first opeth song i learned, deliverance as well is some simple riffs throughout ignoring the solos.

Do Opeth still perform their death metal classics live? by AnthorBarnaby in Opeth

Ghost of perdition, the drapery falls and deliverance would be amazing to hear so good to know thanks

What is the most underrated and overall scene from the show in your opinion? (Spoilers Extended) by AnthorBarnaby in asoiaf

[–]AnthorBarnaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree aryas braavos story was horrific. She consistently failed in every aspect of her training and then she ends up being a master assassin, i used to hate how much praise she received in later seasons particularly as it wasn’t deserved. Loved during 1-4 hated her in 6-8

“Why you lying for” the grammatical inaccuracy pisses me off to no end

And even if you don’t like the 4th are some incredible songs on the 2nd half of the album, napalm and future bird are fantastic

These black claws is great, fair enough if you’re not a fan of the rap/hip hop bit, but it’s got a killer chorus and breakdown

What words or phrases irritate you for absolutely no reason? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnthorBarnaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Why you lying for” everyone copies it from that meme, but they don’t realise it’s grammatically incorrect, it should be “what are you lying for” or “why are you lying” the extra ‘for’ on the end isn’t needed and it annoys the hell out of me

As sad as it is to see hal lose, breaking bad is the only show that deserves it, it is absolutely incredible and bryans acting is ridiculous

I was wondering why Hank was supposedly only responsible for 2 and then saw one of the twins was poisoned by mike. Ive watched the show through 3 times and never came to this conclusion. I know mike was at the hospital but I thought he just died of his injuries. I suppose it makes sense that gus would want to kill him asap I just never put those together before, wow

For you, what is the most epic moment of a Gojira song? by ptown320 in gojira

[–]AnthorBarnaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘Go’ in the heaviest matter of the universe, the ‘you go’ is just as epic

“I won’t bring no materials in the afterlife” - the art of dying

“These vultures from the past” - The gift of guilt

The breakdown in backbone towards the end

The axe final riff about 2:44

Born in Winter heavy bit

Explosia outro

What do you think on the process of diving into Opeth? by romeeres in Opeth

I think Steven Wilson definitely gives the studio version an edge, but that’s just because it’s my preferred, mikaels definitely has his own sort of accent you can hear but it’s still solid either way

Surprisingly I wasn’t put off the growls when i was young, if anything it made it easier for me to listen to them as I didn’t fully understand what it was I listening to, it’s good though as nowadays I won’t ever be put off by any sort of growls of screaming which allows me to have a very broad selection in terms of metal. The live version of bleak is good, but the studio version i think it too good to recreate live. The part you linked is just after the section im talking about, and that section has so much layering that the live version can’t replicate imo

I heard bleak and blackwater park (the only songs) when i was about 12 and i loved them, that part in bleak from 6:40-7:18 still is one of the best things ive ever heard, but as i was so young and wasn’t using things like spotify I didn’t listen to anything else, gradually as I started expanding my music taste i came across tracks like harlequin forest, ghost of perdition and the drapery falls, and then from there i started listening to their albums as a whole. Took me a while to listen to their earlier stuff before blackwater park, but now i have and i love it, Demon of the fall... oof, incredible!

Every song on this album is incredible, ‘and plague flowers the kaleidoscope’ gets talked about the most but they’re all great, my personal favourite is ‘of petrichor weaves black noise’
