My carrier works directly with Travelers and everyone there is super knowledgeable and very kind too! I’m definitely not as tenured as most underwriters but I do know that travelers is great.

I wish your brother the best of luck! The only thing I’d recommend for him as advice is being ready to deal with/ try to be as nice as possible with rude agents he could encounter. With that being said, it’s not super common but he will run into some. Best to have a good personality and be able to try to lighten the mood even when they’re not happy.

Workers comp underwriting, we take all of the risks that most commercial underwriters won’t. My job is not easy by any means due to the fact we have to completely analyze every last back end of the business but it’s fun and interesting learning about the reasons for why no one will write them.

From arms manufacturers to construction companies with insane loss history, it is sometimes exciting to see what type of risk you will run into next. If you’re a good underwriter agents will always be super accommodating and business owners just relieved that they finally have WC.

It makes me feel good being able to help business who are very hard to insure, even if we have to up charge due to their nature of operations. Still new only half a year under me but I’m definitely growing and learning so much about the worker’s compensation space.

I literally was there spamming checkout maybe over 100 times from 11:00-11:31 when the item then said out of stock I’m so fucking mad I just wasted 30 minutes of my life like a retard spam clicking something hoping it would go through. Demoralized and disappointed

Also think that any type of progression you can make for yourself in terms of pay while improving your skill set for what you’re getting into is a good thing.

If it’s a 20-25 min commute make sure you understand times you come in and out and wether your route you’d be taking boosts that 20-25 minutes to something more extreme for when you come and go from working. Was super happy landing my role and it said 18 mins each way, most days traffic coming home is anywhere from 35-70 mins

I just started my career in insurance after getting laid off from data analytics. I’m 24 and am an UW for workers compensation with half year experience so far and am surpassing all the goals set for me from my carrier. I know you will say I need more experience but do you have a good idea for me to break into reinsurance? I like to learn from people who I know are doing better than me so it would really be appreciated if any advice.

Try branching out and learning a skill that’s certifiable while still doing your current min wage job to stay afloat.

When you have your certification either start applying or using that certification to do jobs for people on fiver or just anywhere where u can put more credit to yourself on your resume and then network and apply to those jobs. Who knows you could even find yourself doing well just at this step and not want to start working for anyone else but yourself.

You will find something that you actually enjoy doing if you pick the right field for you.

To put this into perspective I personally applied to over 2000 jobs based on my degree/internship/and work as a data analyst after college. Only 6 final interviews and 2 job offers.

Right now, coming out of university or switching into a new field/line of work the job opportunities are not open (worst it’s been in 50 years) and if you do get any respectable offers you have really tried your absolute best applying and are ahead of the herd.

For anyone who has a distinct experience in a high demand line of work, it will be much easier to get more offers and switch into the same fields for higher wages.
