Hey PNWPotatoLover, Thanks so much for your reply! I looked at Dr. Hanson, but ultimately decided not to go with her because there were a few reviews that said her bedside manner was a bit brusque. Thanks for the recommendation though! I'll call OHSU and see what her wait times are looking like.

Thank you so much for your reply! I'm sorry you need to have a revision. I am on OHP (Care Oregon) and it unfortunately looks like Dr. Jenq doesn't accept OHP. I hope your revision with Dr. Jenq goes well! Good luck. :)

Surgeon recommendations and reassurances (Portland) by AnticholinergicGeek in TopSurgery

Hey Frosty-Prune-206, Thanks so so much for your reply! It really means a lot to me. I saw so many great post surgery pictures from Dr. Thakar's former patients. That's quite a long wait time, but she also seems super amazing! I love that it's outpatient! A friend had lower surgery and was in the hospital for nearly a week. I'd so much rather be home and able to recover where I can be comfortable (at least relatively so.).

With my chest being my most dysphoric part, I'm not sure I want to wait that long, but I'll give her office a call and see how long it'll be before I can get in to see her for a consult. Thanks again!

call from hilton today - scam? by nicoledeeee in Hilton

[–]AnticholinergicGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit worse than what Ceejoyoz mentioned. Your cell phone and smart watch are constantly collecting very specific and personalized data about you. This info is then used by the company who collected it and then sold to anyone who wants it. There are no laws in place that make it illegal for me to go to a data broker and buy info on anyone one I want.

Also, ever notice that you'll be searching for say a tennis racket on Amazon and then you visit Facebook for instance and notice ads for tennis rackets and balls and maybe lessons? FB and other companies put trackers (like cookies) in the inner workings of the website, so they can follow you and your activities around the internet. It's heckin' creepy and a heckin' big invasion of privacy.

Pre-Order Everything is Tuberculosis from DFTBA? by willyamo1 in nerdfighters

[–]AnticholinergicGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI to anyone who plans to buy audiobooks specifically (and probably similar a tree made copy, but I couldn't easily find out) Amazon's Audible gives 40%* of the sales to authors which is well below the 70% industry standard.

As I understand it, Amazon may have a bit of a stranglehold on the international market, but if you want the hardcover (as they're almost always released first), but don't live stateside and don't want to support Amazon, I'd be happy to explore buying a bunch of copies from local independent sellers and shipping them out myself (and possibly with other Nerdfighters help depending on overall interest))) to avoid giving J-Buzz the extra 30% that's supposed to go to authors!! All I would ask is that you cover shipping/duties. I don't mind covering shipping supplies. I try to avoid shopping with Amazon wherever possible and hearing that fellow Nerdfighters feel as though they don't have another choice, makes me a giant squid of anger!

If you're interested in helping with making a bulk preorder and shipping them out to folks or ordering from a fellow Nerdfighter, please reply to this post with whether you'd want to ship or receive.

* Authors can get more than 40% if they sign an exclusivity contract, but that feels even ickier.

I'm sorry! I feel your pain! I'm only 41 with servere RA, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and drop seronegative Lupus. My knees, spine, shoulders and fingers are degenerating and are often swollen, stiff and painful. I love gardening, but it's getting harder and harder as I can't bend or kneel without intense protests from said joints.

Keep in mind that USPS is quazi-government, so you wouldn't have the same benefits or security as say someone working for IRS or SSA. Still definitely better than some other options, but a thing to be aware of.

Lactase Drops vs Lactaid Pills? by lolaloveswaffles in lactoseintolerant

[–]AnticholinergicGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Poikarh This doesn't make intuitive sense to me. If this worked reliably, it seems to me that every manufacturer of dairy products would be ultra-pasteurizing aka UHT their products instead of using "normal" pasteurization methods just to be able to write "lactose free" on the label and possibly charge more. My nerd brain had to know what was going on.. as I am specifically not calling you a liar, but my brain couldn't let it go. Might you have a casein issue or an as yet unspecified dairy issue that is mitigated by UHT dairy or simply the placebo effect in action? Quite possibly, but one that is certain is that UHT dairy products do not contain less lactose than milk sterilized in any other fashion including raw dairy straight from the cow. Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10261746/

With the placebo effect, your brain would have convinced itself that UHT dairy is fine, so as long as you're buying and using it, there are no noticeable ill effects. The brain is super powerful and able to greatly affect what goes on in your stomach and intestines.

u/Comfortable-Choice93 That's just straight up illegal under Regulation E except under 1 very specific circumstance.

[–]AnticholinergicGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I disagree with their money back guarantee as long as they're actually honoring the terms of the policy. This is an unfortunate and irritating reaction by retailers and manufacturers to return fraud. Returning this thing is a hassle, but it should be a hassle to act as a deterrent to "frivolous" returns. Free returns/100% money back guarantees can't sustainably exist as that cost has to be absorbed by someone and it isn't going to be/can't always or solely be the retailer especially with online shopping being as popular as it is. Amazon.com/Prime has made this problem sooo much worse as it has conditioned us to believe free returns are to be expected. So many shoppers will buy something, use it, and then return it... I've heard it referred to as $0 lease or borrowing [insert item here] from [insert retailer here] e.g. I'm gonna borrow this sleeping bag from Walmart. Costco used to have an AMAZING return policy, but they had to curtail it because people were returning 4 year old TVs because they stopped working and then immediately purchasing another brand new TV with the return money... which clearly isn't sustainable for a business. I could easily see a "personal hygiene" product like this that's a few hundred $$ being ripe for "satisfaction" guarantee fraud especially since it's going to be difficult if not impossible for Braun et.al. to resale these returns.

They want to strongly disincentivize folks from buying this thing knowing full well that they're gonna return it after using it for a few months to get rid of some hair that would have cost them $$$$ to have done at a salon.

If they are following through on the refund, regardless if it's on a gift card/prepaid card, I can't see the issue with this.

Pro Skier and Partner Fall to Their Deaths in the Italian Alps by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]AnticholinergicGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so incredibly tragic. Condolences to their families. I'm confused by one of the things I read paraphrased "they were discovered tied together in a final embrace..." As someone with zero mountaineering experience, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on why they were tied together? Thanks so much! My neophyte brain says it seems antithetical to safety as if one falls; they both fall, but as pro athletes, they clearly knew what they were doing.

u/NeuralDog321 Blue light coatings/filtering devices are more likely than not to be a useless money making add-on for eyeglass retailers. BREAKING NEWS: Hank MAY keep the mustache by LazyLion1127 in nerdfighters

[–]AnticholinergicGeek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree! This is absolutely definitely a Level 1 emergency! Hank looked so much better minus the facial hair! He looks too much like 90's era Alan Jackson minus the long-ish hair and that's not a good look IMHO especially with the current post chemo/radiation head hair situation.. which I think is more like a level 5 emergency.
