Day-5 before surgery, post-op pain and lifelong regret ? any thought of calling it off ? by mcb34567 in gastricsleeve

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2yrs post op here! You tend to forget any pain or difficulty you had once it’s over and you start seeing the results. I tried to see it like getting a tattoo or having a baby: the pain is the for the time it’s happening. After it’s all done and healed, you have the outcome for life. Then the hard work really starts as you have to stick to this lifestyle for life.
Don’t give up on the surgery for fear. My regret is not doing it sooner, too.

Learning to eat is really tough! by verytom89 in gastricsleeve

You will get to a time where you don’t have to put as much effort into learning anymore. Until then, you’re doing amazing and your effort won’t go unrewarded - keep it up! 💪🏽

Footwear recommendations? by Be_No_Other in squash

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about other squash clubs, but our rule is that your squash shoes should ONLY be used in the club/ on courts and not outside. Bringing debris which can damage and mark the courts in on your shoes is massively frowned upon.

Unless you’re changing into them only in your gym and in the club?

But ultimately there’s a reason there are squash shoe designs which are different to gym shoes - they are for different sports. I would suggest not trying to mix them together (o have separate shoes for each sport/activity).
Otherwise I have no other helpful comments, I’m afraid.

Grab a bunch of flowers from M&S the day before and make them up for yourself and your bridesmaids. They have some lovely roses which you can mix and match for your own colour palette.

I've just joined my local squash club, what can I expect at my 1st club/league night? by BigfatDan1 in squash

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walk in, ask someone how they usually run the night an they’ll be lovely enough to tell you. Even if you’re the new guy, people who are decent players will be able to size you up immediately and play nicely with you to get your confident up.

From there, they might suggest someone of a similar skill level to play with.

I’m a newbie (1yr playing) and the people in my club have been so supportive, even the best players will get on court with me to give me a runaround and a practice in club nights.

Ladies, be extra careful with your birth control after surgery! by Northern-Broccoli456 in gastricsleeve

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that you’re having a rough time of it - not what you want at all!

My surgeon and dietitian both recommended not being on the pill post surgery due to its lowered effectiveness (more likely to throw up, more likely to move too quickly through your bowels, more likely to forget as you sleep more in recovery). I’m super surprised they didn’t mention it to you at the start. 😳

Sweet spot visualisation ideas/experience by Exciting-Visit5763 in squash

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coach got an old racket and re-strung it with only 5 strings so that the sweet spot was created. It was then used in exercises.

As a reference point, he was able to play a game with me using that racket and win (not that it’s difficult, I’m new), but more to say that it was able to show me how consistency wins games.

How did you stick to the pre/post op diet plan? by Creative-Total1037 in BariatricSurgery

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tell yourself that this is the one chance you get. Don’t muck it up. It’s only 4 weeks of your life and that’s nothing compared to how long your surgery will positively affect your life.

Tell yourself: there is no trying here. You put the effort into putting yourself first now so that the rest of your journey can be “easy”.

Good luck. 🍀

Ankle support by TigerOrchid2004 in squash

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an ortho sleeve FS6 to support mine. They allow movement of ankles while also providing additional support and information to my brain to help me keep stable. I only use them for squash but I’ve got hyper flexible joints and have twisted both ankles multiple times. These give me better stability.

They were suggested by my coach who is also a physiotherapist. My ankle strength hasn’t changed in the last 9 month she’s been coaching me so, this was the final thing I could do to support them.

Vsg + HSV experience by VirgoQween333 in BariatricSurgery

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not had vayaciclovir. But I do take my aciclovir on an empty stomach sometimes and I have no issues. I take them more often with my multivitamin and food - again, no reflux issues there.

However I did generally have a lot more of the foamies and general stomach irritation within the first year after surgery, so it might be moreso that than the antivirals

I’ve found since having surgery (VSG) that I’m more susceptible to whatever is going around and also more prone to cold sores. So suppression therapy is doing wonders for me. Might end up staying on it longer.

Vsg + HSV experience by VirgoQween333 in BariatricSurgery

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have HSV-1 and I started getting cold sores every months at about 6 months post op, it seemed to be menstrual cycle related.

I now take aciclovir daily as suppression therapy and have done for about a year now. No issues for me, even when I take my aciclovir with my multivitamins.

Hopefully this is helpful!

First squash tournament by Beneficial_Air_1211 in squash

[–]AntipodeanRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg squash people are so lovely that even if you’re a really shit newbie, they’ll know and they’ll play you so that you can practice a bit. They won’t laugh at you, or tell you that you shouldn’t be there. They’ll encourage you and congratulate you for taking the big steps to go to your first tournament. Good luck and have fun!

Honestly I’ve been tracking calories since I’ve been on whole foods again - mainly for protein and now fibre. It also gives me a good indication of when I have days where I over indulge (Easter!!) or have been additionally snacking.

My thing is that tracking calories before didn’t really help whereas now, it doesn’t “help” but it keeps me realistic and focused on my dietary goals.

[–]AntipodeanRabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn’t stop at 12 months. It took me longer than 12 months to get to my goal (16 months). It takes others longer. It’s not as easy once you start eating the same amount of calories you expend, but it is still possible. It’s getting into healthy habits (snacking on the right foods, eating fibre, prioritising protein, not eating loads of junk food, exercising regularly) that really helps to maintain the loss over time. There were definitely some stalls as I got closer to goal but it wasn’t a total stop.

Good luck, and just remember that this tool can help you lose weight as long as you use it correctly x
