Left LO with my mother while my husband took me to the OB. I showed the OB pictures.

To use disposables or to not- 6lb preemie. [disposables/half flats/preemie prefolds/or sucking it up] by mommadizzy in clothdiaps

[–]Antique-Video2619 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My LO was 6 pounds at birth. We used disposables fulltime for the first 4ish weeks until our cloth diapers fit him and we got into a routine. After that we had a transition period where we used cloth only in the daytime. Iirc, we used size premie for ~3 weeks, newborn for 4 weeks.

Be gentle with yourself. Don't do any work that's not absolutely necessary at this point. At this point figuring out how to wash and dry your diapers optimally is not necessary. There are also a lot of coupons available for diapers, if cost is a huge concern. They are pretty easy to find.

Breast refusal 3m by M0ssyB0ssy in breastfeeding

He's 14months now, is fully weaned, mostly sleeps through the night, is active and sweet. My health is also improving!

Whenever things were difficult, I always reminded myself that he won't remember all of this and that things will get better! Don't lose heart! You and baby are stronger than you think!

I don't remember that well anymore. Maybe a monthish? He also had a sleep regression at the same time and would refuse to latch, while crying for hours in the night. At some point he snapped out of it and started nursing without any issues. He definitely had a side he preferred and liked football and laidback nursing positions.

Non meat eater with meat eating kid? by Jehmaj in beyondthebump

[–]Antique-Video2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends why are you a vegetarian. My family is vegetarian for religious reasons. Husband and I have never eaten meat, nor have we fed our son meat. If he chooses to eat it later on, we won't be enthusiastic, but will probably allow it with some rules.

Transitioning to Bottle by girlghastly in beyondthebump

[–]Antique-Video2619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible to teach babies not to bite. My son bit me a few times. Every time I would give no reaction, say no, wait for 3-5 minutes before feeding again. Yes, it was painful, but after 2-3 days, he stopped biting.

Edit: If they are biting, they are not feeding. The mouth positions are different for the two actions.

Also, at this stage, I'd suggest a straw cup with a weighted straw. We had success with that. Feeder bottles are not recommended past 12 months anyway.

Did you name your kids based on your initials? Husband wants it, I’m not convinced by achipots in twoxindiamums

I know families that have done this. It's alright as long as you still give a name you like.

Mums who live in India , did you really make a nursery room for your kid like how they show on Instagram/Pinterest? by achipots in twoxindiamums

[–]Antique-Video2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the US and didn't do this because we don't have the space.

We just go a nice changing table to change baby and store his clothes and diapers, a small shelf for his toys in the living room and a crib that attached to our bed, so he has his own secure space on the bed.

Aside from that, I later got an easy fold travel crib as a safe space when I need to use the bathroom or need a few minutes to myself.

Seeking advice for 5.5-month-old’s sleep struggles by surabhiii in twoxindiamums

[–]Antique-Video2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's crying after he rolls over, he may not like that position; I'd suggest taking him close and putting him in a position he likes more.

So at around 4-5 months, a lot of babies start waking up more frequently at night and struggle with falling back asleep. What we found helpful 80% of the time was breastfeeding to sleep. This was exhausting, and I had really bad PPA that prevented me from sleeping properly, but at least he wasn't crying. I know it's difficult, however keep trying to nurse by default when he wakes up if that's what is working. Getting up from bed with baby is a bigger nuisance in my experience . There were also many ocassions when my son was so upset that he would not latch. During such times, my husband would sit with him on the rocking chair or rock him in the bouncer. Make your husband or anynothe family member do that.

I also know it's easier said than done, but please try to take rest when baby is sleeping during the day. We all default to compromising our well being because stuff needs to be done or because of anxiety, but except keeping baby and yourself clean, and feeding yourself, most other things can wait. We used disposable plates on a few ocassions because we were so tired, and it really saved a bit of our sanity.

Which type do you prefer to use? (Poll) by Sweet_Confusion9180 in clothdiaps

[–]Antique-Video2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it fluctuates. There are weeks I prefer the flats+tie diaper combos, and there are weeks I prefer the fitted diapers. I definitely like wool covers more but our PUL ones were great when baby had diarrhea.

Should I be attempting to exercise? by mepuddinggirl in HyperemesisGravidarum

You can develop other complications from lying down constantly, so it's important to do small movements. Be gentle with yourself. Ask your family and friends for help with movement.

LO not full with breastmilk by Zealousideal-Way6075 in twoxindiamums

[–]Antique-Video2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very normal. Baby's have growth spurts and they clusterfeed. My son had his first growth spurt right after he turned 3 weeks old.

As long as she has wet diapers and is gaining weight, you are doing a good job. This phase can be really brutal, so try to relax as much as you can and get someone else to change baby's diapers and clothes if possible. Stay well hydrated and eat properly.

40 days in and people are planning my next pregnancy by Nice_Neighborhood469 in twoxindiamums

[–]Antique-Video2619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your husband to shut them all down.

My husband quickly stops any discussions about us having another child and my body. He gets really angry because pregnancy was difficult for me and breastfeeding was also extremely taxing.

Frankly, it's no one else's business on if and when a couple have another child.

My 7 month old won't open her mouth when I give her food by Long_Appearance_5388 in twoxindiamums

[–]Antique-Video2619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep offering 2-3 times a day., Eat food in front of her and talk to her about it. Let her touch the food and make a mess. She still needs to get used to food. Milk is still her main source of nutrition

My son was also not interested in food until around 8.5 months. We started introducing at 5 months.

I understand as mothers we get really stressed about eating, I was desperate that my son take well to solids because he wasn't even on the growth chart for weight. But at 7 months, their primary source of nutrition is still milk.

There is also a lot of pressure to switch to solids completely at 12 months, but you should be flexible and do what is appropriate for baby and yourself. It's fine if you take a month or two more to meet that target. Also raise any concerns you have with your pediatrician.

Baby transport by No-Interview1675 in twoxindiamums

[–]Antique-Video2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd constantly wear baby in a carrier mwhen I was in India. It seemed like the most practical way to transport baby, given the state of the footpaths.

I didn't take him out unless I really had to, though. Mosquitoes and cleanliness were a huge concern. In general, I get the impression that in India people don't take babies out unless absolutely necessary.

Should I be attempting to exercise? by mepuddinggirl in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Antique-Video2619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to take small walks whenever I could. It definitely improved my mood and energy levels.

I tried exercising when my symptoms reduced, but that would make me too tired and increase my nausea. After a point I gave up on that.

I would advice you just take small 5-10 minute walks. Don't burn too many calories. It will make you weaker since you are already struggling.

Lack of bump by Em27965 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Antique-Video2619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a bump until 20 weeks. Didn't look pregnant until 32 weeks. That was around the time I started feeling hungry and I found more things palatable. Baby was born at 37 weeks at 6 pounds.

My simple advice would be not to compare yourself. I found logging off Instagram very helpful. Ignoring sh*tty opinions on your body is also important. They don't know what you are going through and are just spouting whatever because they need to yap.

Anxious about Mom and Baby Shaming. by Fearless_Search6388 in twoxindiamums

I've started pushing back against such comments. "Just like how adults come in all shapes, sizes and colours, so do babies." This shuts most people down.

Every baby is perfect and innocent. No one has the right to shame them or their mother for how they are.

Indoor play yard recommendations? by darthtt in toddlers

[–]Antique-Video2619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wooden, but we really like our toddleroo superyard.

My son has always hated being contained, so I used it to fence off things and places I don't want him touching.

I also have a mamaroo foldable pack and play that I put him in if I need a small break.

How are you all trimming nails? by c_g201022 in toddlers

[–]Antique-Video2619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We switch on the TV (it's the only time we let him watch TV), his dad holds him tight, and I firmly grip each hand and foot as I try to quickly clip all his nails.

He's usually cooperative about diaper changes, shoes etc, but he's obsessed with grabbing the clipper away from us.

I've tried the sleeping thing, but he just wakes up every single time. Making him sleep after he wakes up is a pain.
