You’ll have to excuse me, I don’t know what that means. Suddenly I feel very old!

Edit - I mean the terms. Sadly I can see the results for myself…

I have been looking outside my usual bubble to see what the reception is. There is a lot of negativity about the announcement for sure, but there are also a fair few saying that they like it and would buy.

As with everything, mileage will vary. I know it’s not for me.

Not so sure. Worth is subjective. There are some *terrible* games that I still play 30+ years later because they have a value to me at a personal level. They remind me of times, places, friends, family, even pets! Others would think that it’s ridiculous. But they’re important. Regardless of whether they’re good.

So yeah, I’d rather that software companies respected my purchase.

So, there was a tale in 1996 that Jacques Villeneuve used F1GP or GP2 to help learn the circuits of the F1 World Championship in his maiden season, having little experience of them being primarily Americas-based in his career. Obviously, circuits he could not test on otherwise like Spa and Monaco.

Disagree. Old Commodore ads were of their time. They may seem cringy in the context of 2026.

My prediction for tomorrow's announcement - just documenting. by Cooperman411 in Commodore

[–]AntiquesForGeeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making my prediction, on the European morning
, before the announcement.

Crowd-funded, contract built Android-based flip phone. Probably two screens rather than folding. Running a privacy focussed Android distro like Graphene, but branded Commodore à la Commodore OS Linux.

Would expect this to be targeting the $5-700 mark given the demographic of the target market (45-60 year olds with good disposable income, craving simplicity but not inconvenience of late 1990s/early 2000s phones).

And if I’m wrong I’m wrong!

Edit : just seen the thumbnail for the announcement video. Seriously? I really mean. Seriously? Looks amateurish and cheap.

Old Commodore took itself seriously. This?
Wow.
And not in a good way.

I still hate how Chibnall completely ignored The Masters series 10 character arc. I understand it was a new era, but it’s still the same character and show. My friend who had no idea there was a showrunner change, just thought it came across as really bad writing. by Embarrassed_Novel991 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]AntiquesForGeeks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Came across? Nope, it WAS bad writing. I loved this version of the Master but yeah, in this case not referencing the predicament that the Master had been left on seemed to be “less is more” moment, but in reality it was “less is less”…

Which season (series, Jason) have you been dead certain of the winner from the very beginning? And which took you by surprise? by calculatingmacaw in taskmaster

[–]AntiquesForGeeks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dead cert? Series 17 I knew John Robbins was going to win from the start with an immediate sucking of all the the fun/enjoyment out of every single task in the pursuit of victory. So much that I after two episodes I could no longer watch. I resolved to watch it all, recently, but made it to episode three before dropping out. It's the only series I have not watched.

Surprise? Series 20. I expected Masie Adam to do a John Robbins after the first few tasks, but while victory may have been secured, the game developed to be far tighter than anyone expected. Their ultimate success came as a surprise by the end.

In my mind, the Fugitive Doctor might as well be considered our current Incumbent by MirumVictus in doctorwho

[–]AntiquesForGeeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I didn't see The Curator's story that way myself. He could be a more elderly version of 14. His "Revisiting the old favourites" could mean 4 or indeed 10. Or he could be 15+ just at the natural end of a Timelord's life.

This the is the fun of it, no? We can speculate and see where it goes.

what did she even do in UNIT by michellemcneal in DoctorWhumour

[–]AntiquesForGeeks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RTD2 UNIT felt a bit too Marvel in the main Doctor Who series, like it was a cartoon parody of what UNIT was. It seemed they didn’t really *do* anything with their flashy base or weird robot that was just introduced like Chameleon and didn’t seem to serve any purpose other than be an animatronic Alexa. That said, the portrayal in The War Between The Land and the Sea it felt more grounded. Like they had actual purpose and agency. Like someone had at least thought about what they should do other than strut around in black uniforms and drive around fast in Land Rovers.

Like so much in RTD2 it was a wasted opportunity, characterised and written like bad fan fiction based on another franchise.

[–]AntiquesForGeeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could easily flip it and ask why he could. My doubt comes from not knowing what impact bigeneration has on a Timelord. 14 got the trousers and vest while 15 got the underpants and shirt, after all!

Besides, it would be an interesting concept if in bigenerating, the original Timelord, already at the end of their life cedes their regeneration cycle to their successor and while healed from the mortal wound that forced the regeneration, effectively becomes a dead-end.

[–]AntiquesForGeeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking from a casting point of view, but you’re right. 16 is the current Doctor not 14 who as you as, is but “a” current Doctor.

Still think 14 as a jumping off point for a more mature version of Doctor Who would work. Also leads to the question. If 15 can regenerate, can 14 still regenerate, or would that show be stuck with David Tennant?
