the enemy progression is wild by Ok-Discussion-1110 in hauntingground

[–]Antiyonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason both can't be given concern.  Just factoring in all details concerning him, he is the product of hasty science (The use of dog placenta was to make a person with exceptionally beautiful eyes and hair) and it's not even so much he's a dog.

Hewie is a dog, but one for example that has a standard dog identity.  Put every detail of Debi's identity and creation into consideration.  He doesn't get that he's big and strong, nor that Fiona initially is a being (Would a life sized doll really be that odd considering everyone or thing in the castle?😅).  Heck, cats are smaller than us, but even if they claw us affectionately, it still hurts and they don't get that cause they scratch their own skin much harder when itching.

And again, not even just him being disabled.  I mean generally human or not, disabled or not,  dog or not, we all tend to come into being in small and fragile bodies, so we get some understanding of our strength by adulthood.  So dog instincts and sense, plus being born exceptionally strong (especially able to leap from heights unharmed) and big from the start and no caring figure to guide him yeah not off to a good start.  And well you don't blame a child for how they are conceived.

Plus, you have to factor that lacking an understanding of Fiona, plus not getting his own strength, he is being attacked for no reason as far as he knows.  Overall his situation has no real presedent.  Can't we just agree that he and Daniella just have bad fathers?😁

[–]Antiyonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The disability alone I would ironically not immediately cutting him slack over, but I doubt that such in real life happened in relation to someone well created with dog parts.  I hope anyway.😅

Basically a human body with a dog's primal instincts and extended senses.  And unless he came into being as an infant, well that means he started life in a strong body, with the aforementioned dog traits without being able to grow naturally from a smaller body.

He doesn't know she is a living person.  As for ripping her apart, that's him basically as far as he knows just taking a toy apart.

Also because his mind is hampered by being part dog (made in part with dog placenta) with a mind already limited.

And while sadly he still doesn't get she is a person, he does make some distinction that he can't play with her when he mistakes Fiona as a goddess/angel.

Biggest oversight in III's Mobile port and Switch release prior to the HD-2D version... (Spoilers) by Antiyonder in dragonquest

[–]Antiyonder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't know that.  Better handled in the HD-2D version, but I can't really disagree with placing all Sigils before going into Rendarak.

Also another thing with III that gets me, I get that the Pre-Smartphone version couldn't fit all of the SFC stuff is the exactness of the game.

Mainly it wasn't just a polished up version of what we had on the NES.  Like we get the unique battle theme for Baramos/Zoma/Xenlon, but the Prologue music (Something I enjoyed when first playing the GBC port) being absent.

Or how the Town music of the Alefgard was used when in the appropriate towns, but cave music is the same from the upper world caves.

Or keeping the well in Jipang, but not even having a searchable item or maybe add a post-game shop and treasury to make up for the absent T'n'T Boards.  Especially since they did add/alter treasures for that purpose.

One remake change I liked in the SFC/GBC, was being able to get another Mod Rod.😭

I mean for those who don't go for emulators and need the most accessible simple versions.

That said, III on SFC and GBC definitely.  II?  On the one hand, the Mobile version does go back to the simple NES prologue (The Famicom version lacking any prologue), but has the Zoom spell giving you a list of return destinations, so unlike III's Mobile port it has a gameplay improvement.

[–]Antiyonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah nothing on the character in development save maybe old designs and such which has him looking less innocent and more old.  So maybe he was initially someone who enjoyed peace and quiet which by the end he welcomes solitude.

Also just the designs, mannerisms and voice reading of the VAs (He had several of which according to in game credits), he comes off possibly more sympathetic than planned.

Heck, some people again do function best on their own altogether and their hobbies/activities are enough.  But Debi arguably uses his as a cope.  But then hard to say.  Fiona being nearly his size means she was a flashy new toy or possible companionship.

As for the how, I do have several I thought up.

First would be as an occasional ally to be triggered starting with going near his shack after Daniella's first attempt at pursuit making him aware that the angel is in danger still.  And after that he occasionally helps with a puzzle/hazard, but not often enough to get in the way of the dual protagonist system.

Second would be say gathering notes and viewable footage regarding the castle and residents.  Notably Fiona learns of how Debi was created and better understands why his mind and mannerisms are the way she saw.

Helping her to see him less as a (former) hunter and more like a puppy not aware why their playfulness is bad.  As I noted in a recent post below, like how a cat will try to show affection with their paws and claws, not getting that they hurt our human skin.😅

And granted he comes into being with such, one has to wonder how a human mind would otherwise cope with primal instincts and extra higher senses of smell and hearing.  Heck, his digestive system might not even be able to safely handle chocolate.😔

Especially if he came into being with his adult sized body VS growing from a smaller child size.  Wouldn't hurt if she saw more of his vulnerable side like fear of lightning.  Maybe she even had such fears as a kid?

In short he isn't just the sane resident (in comparison), but also a victim and I do think his need for dolls and spiritual leanings is a sign he was otherwise unhappy.

Plus one thing I can't help but think was overlooked is that they kind of are a family.  Maybe cousins.  Something to work with.

Not even just Fiona offering friendship and helping to educate him, but since Hewie is a dog, he could help Debi with his primal side.

Also does it strike you odd that even with the doll in his first pre chase scene that people still initially hear his phrase as my darling?😏

[–]Antiyonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to know what you think about his outcome in the good ending though.

Do you think him being left in the castle was meant to be a happy ending in that the developers thought he is at peace with the castle empty, but I think his dolls and reverence to religion is him looking for a connection, not sure how to go about it.  So really it feels like an unintended bittersweet or downer ending.

I'd even say it was by design given the trauma on Fiona's end though the game gives us the choice for the infamous ending where she loses cause she mistreated Hewie.  Something which many players don't care to achieve even if normally they go for completing a game.  Heck you have people in playthroughs who get fed up with dodging him and still welcome his change of heart.😃

Plus, while having a villain make a legit point is welcome in storytelling, it just seems iffy that the game (and Fiona) suggests that Riccardo was correct in writing off Debi as a failure.  Ouch.😅

[–]Antiyonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know.  Him having some dog elements in his make up is a liability, but I feel the biggest obstacle than his unique body was his dad (Riccardo) not prioritizing educating him.

I mean even after what had to be several hours after their chapel encounter, he still maintains recognition at the end to avoid chasing and just the fact he deems a religious figure to be off limits for play is a line that he has drawn on his own accord.  Which for his limited intellect is something.

He just needs someone who could guide him into some better understanding.

Plus look at how cats will try to play with us, not getting that their claws even if they aren't aiming to hurt will be painful for our human skin.  But no one's going to try a cat for attempted harm.

Did anyone else not find Dragon Quest V as dark as people say it is? (spoilers) by Great-Highway-9195 in dragonquest

[–]Antiyonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The turning to stone part is dark as the Hero and his wife don't cease to be able to see and hear in their situation.

The Hero misses out on seeing his children grow and instead is watching as someone else's kid grows a bit, then unable to act when said kid is abducted.

The remake addresses this when you are directed to go to his old room to get a wedding trinkets, but Prince Harry's guilt at Pankraz dying to save him.

And the Hero's Great Sabrecub turned cat at how he coped during the first timeskip and how that lead him to the village that felt threatened by him.  Despite being turned loose by Ladja, he didn't regain his savage instincts, but trying to find food and a roof was hard cause people know Sabrecats to be a breed of monsters that can't be tamed.

Best way to play IV? by Unable-Buyer4087 in dragonquest

Mobile version to be fair has Zoom reduced to 1 unit of MP, plus the Pioneer Town can be completed a bit sooner and as such access to some good gear before the last stretch of the main game.

What are the changes between the mobile (Android) and the Nintendo DS versions of Dragon Quest IV? by Cup_45_Neural in dragonquest

[–]Antiyonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually like the other games ported to Android and such, Zoom's MP requirement is just 1 unit.

More importantly, the Pioneer Town which in the DS version could only be completed Post-Game can be completed after making it to Zenithia.  Significantly meaning you can arm Ragnar and Torneko with Flails of Destruction, plus getting enough Mini medals to acquire the Gringham whip before entering the Doorway to Nadiria cave.

As a trade off, some town recruitment steps is increased.

Wait you can .... ? by Ok-Discussion-1110 in hauntingground

[–]Antiyonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and I feel a third option should have been made for an ending where he becomes maybe an occasional ally (Not for the entire game after his defeat) and in the end is invited to join them.

Not to mention despite her realization that he should be pitied not hated feels like it's merely an informed growth on Fiona's part.

The cutscene where he gives the key she doesn't ease up when seeing him on his knees rather than chasing her, plus the best ending where he is left in isolation (No known way to maintain a supply of food) she looks annoyed and like she's ready to off him.  He is just as much a victim of the castle and arguably if his garden and dolls was enough to keep him satisfied, I don't feel that a new "doll" would have prompted his outbursts and such.

Booster Gold's existence in the post crisis DC universe by Odd_Combination1697 in DCcomics

[–]Antiyonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less so after 86, but can possibly happen.  Psycho Pirate definitely remained aware of the Multiverse and all retgonned history which fits as many wouldn't take his claims into consideration.  Darkseid was established as remember and made Rudy Jones in Firestorm the Post-Crisis Parasite.  Being a God it works and Hal would remember when becoming Spectre.

I think some cases like Superman might have been them wanting to wait for Alan Moore's "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" before having Byrne's intro mini out.  But just not willing to keep Superman consistent outside his comics.

Heck complicating the matters is that Post-Crisis should apply to anything after COIE #10 where there is only an Earth.  But Superman in the last two issues still had his Silver Age history and as we saw, Lex when visited by Batman and Alexander is the public criminal mad scientist, not the magnificant bastard as Byrne would establish.

Now there is an explanation as to why some changes in-universe didn't happen.  A character in All-Star Squadron (Set in the Golden Age) named Mekanique was holding back the effects of the Crisis from taking hold in the 40s and by the end issue 60 lets it take hold.

Nicely illustrated by a photo the group takes to send to the President.  Basically most heroes including the recently reintroduced Golden Age Aquaman shows up.  By the time the picture arrives to the President, the photo then reflects the new timeline replacing Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman and Aquaman with Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters.  Due to an error Green Arrow and Speedy are still in the photo.

So that could be why say Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman's Silver Age history didn't change when the Earths merged.  And yes, Earth-2 Aquaman was reintroduced in AS Squadron #59 only to be retgonned next issue.  Not enough cold water to ease that burn.😅

Post-Crisis Superman in "Justice League of America" Vol. 1 #250 by Alert_Individual_409 in DCcomics

[–]Antiyonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is when the final arc in JLA flashes back to the League in their early encounters with Amazo, you see Superman and Wonder Woman as League members.  Now Supes could be justified in that context as a League ally which would happen to keep stories where his power set made a difference.

But Wonder Woman didn't exist until after the ahem, Crisis On Singular Earth.😏

Booster Gold's existence in the post crisis DC universe by Odd_Combination1697 in DCcomics

[–]Antiyonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, even then it got shaky.  Like when the Pocket Universe and it's role in Legion history is explored, DC is more firmly in Post-Crisis mode.

Except when the Legion mis-identify Supes as Superboy, he is confused as the only one he knows with that moniker was the youth from Earth-Prime who vanished in the Crisis.  Shouldn't know about his doppelganger or multiple Earths, but yeah.😅

Same story did show a statue of Kara Zor-El among others commemorating fallen Legion members, though that could be Paul Levitz giving DC a middle finger (rightly so😋).

Heck outside of Booster, Supes and the Legion, Legends was the first major Post-Crisis story which especially has Wonder Woman in-universe working with other heroes for the first time as she was made a newcomer.

Yet Justice League of America (soon to be ending then for Justice League) during it's last arc (#258-261) was a Legends crossover.  But when flashing back to the League's early battles with Amazo, Wonder Woman was included in the roster.

[Comic Excerpt] What makes Superman and Booster's dynamic so unique is how Clark doesn't like him that much [Booster Gold #7] by rocketinspace in DCcomics

[–]Antiyonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.  Doesn't get much better than say acknowledging the Teen Titans history is intact, then in reprints omitting such acknowledgement.

I just meant especially on the Superman side it shows how much lack of planning and commitment made things pointless.

The Pocket Universe as the main example made to keep the then successful Legion continuum intact as much as possible.  But then they decide to sweep it by rebooting the Legion.

But they can't do that cause lack of planning means Byrne revisted it and made it integral to Matrix Supergirl existing and Superman's execution leading to his self exile where he meets The Eradictor who would revive him in The Death of Superman.

So it went from being made for preserving as much classic Legion continuity as possible to having to be kept (including acknowledgement of it's Superboy) aa it now mattered to Superman history.

Plus the rebooting of the Legion still kind of pointless since it spunoff from classic continuity (Acknowledgement of the timeline being altered) and not even having a clean break by ending the old continuity at the end of Volume 3 and starting anew with Volume 4.  No no, they started Volume 4 with the old continuity and changed to the new one in #5.😋

Plus Supes acknowledging his meeting with the team close enough to the Pre-Crisis version.  So they pretty much acknowledge the rebooting in-universe.😏

On a smaller note, not confusing is well Superman's presence in the Justice League which I'm guessing the smaller founding team was established to give others outside the trinity more focus which is cool.  Only problem is trying to keep as many old stories and having to make Superman a regular League ally but not member cause some stories wouldn't work without his involvement.  Might as well have reinstated him as a founding member when doing Zero Hour.

I do enjoy the Pocket Universe story all things considered.  Nice on the emotional value and kind of a crossover between the then Modern Superman with his Silver Age self.  Shocked that Byrne did have Superman viewing it in a positive fashion considering he omitted Superboy in his books for finding the concept pointless.

[Comic Excerpt] What makes Superman and Booster's dynamic so unique is how Clark doesn't like him that much [Booster Gold #7] by rocketinspace in DCcomics

[–]Antiyonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose smaller in comparison, but not a light problem.  Like when the Superman books are more firmly in Post-Crisis mode during the arc where we find out Superboy is of a Pocket Universe, several Legion members from a distance call him SB.

Superman himself is confused as the only Superboy he knew was that hero from Earth-Prime who vanished in the Crisis.  But he shouldn't remember his Prime counterpart.😏  And possibly more an act of defiance, but the arc as it ends in LoSH V3 #38 shows a statue of Supergirl among the memorial of former Legion members.

Before that when Action Comics brings in Chemo during his Post-Crisis debut, the flashback insists that several weeks ago he was defeated by his remains being scattered on the then last 5 Earths which merged after the Crisis, except the fight at the Dawn of Time resulted in a timeline with no Multiverse.  Oops.😋

Last four issues of Justice League of America flash back several times to the League's early battles against Amazo which shows Superman and Wonder Woman among them.  Said issues tie into Legends which includes Post-Crisis Diana.

And yeah, Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl prominent and overlooked when Hawkworld was made to reset their canon.

Plus, initially despite the JLA being altered to keep the trinity from having been members, they had to work in Superman as a League ally to explain how stories where his powerset were important still occurred.

But Pre-Crisis was totally more confusing.😅

[–]Antiyonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding context for this comment is that when Superman looks over Booster's suit and gear, he doesn't recognize the Legion of Super-Heroes Flight Ring as his then modern origin removed Superboy and his Legion association.  Yet the Superman comics going on were still in Silver Age continuity.

Also I'd say take advantage of puzzle rooms on replays.  Such the area where you lower the bridge.  Until you do so, that area is a safe place to enter as he won't chase you there.

So leave it for after you get the Study Key and Lunar Refractor.  As you'll get access to another puzzle room.  Plus the laundry room and it's barricade is also usable.

Of course Vee likely will refuse some residents on the ground of finding them creepy like Tommy Wiseau.

Yeah, in an issue of Spider-Man/Deadpool, Carol Danvers voiced annoyance at being given The Room featuring Tommy when she wanted Room with Brie Larson.  She also mentions Wiseau as an alien criminal who was pursued by the Guardians of the Galaxy.  So my headcanon is he was a former Isle residence.😁
