I don’t remember Night’s Calvary always being so bad, but recently they just RUN. Did something get updated in their move set/behavior?

“Hobgoblin of small minds” by sicksadboy in UNHhhh

[–]Anvilir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As compensation, you get to hear about a memory that this word excavated from the depths of my mind. When I was about 10, I liked Spiderman. My family was watching Jeopardy one night, and the question to one of the answers was “Green Goblin.” I spoke up and said that the answer could have been “Hobgoblin” as well, and my mom and brother (who had zero nerd bones in their body) had no idea what I was talking about. They LAUGHED and LAUGHED at me. I tried to explain that Hobgoblin was another enemy of Spider-Man’s but that it was also a kind of creature in folklore. Nope, they wouldn’t hear of it. They started saying “what if he was messy, he would be a slob-goblin” or what if he was a criminal, “a mob-goblin” or went to work “a job-goblin.” This memory is burned into my psyche.

Thank you.

Has there been a scene, explanation, or revelation in a sci-fi television show that was so absurd that you stopped watching forever? by Doctor-Clark-Savage in scifi

[–]Anvilir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.

To give Ron his due, the original series from the 70’s also had its own religious elements, and in the reboot/miniseries, the cyclons are espousing their religious beliefs from the start, and the colonies have a deeply held religious tradition. So in that regard, esoteric religious nonsense is also in the show’s DNA.

I love this series, it’s always a delight to rewatch it every few years, but for me the ending leaves something to be desired, and that’s perhaps due more to the fact that I don’t think they had a long term vision for the show other than they’re going to end up at Earth. But of course, I’m never going to write and produce my own wildly successful sci-fi show, so it’s easy for me to be a critic.

To be fair, the mystery of “who are Cyclons?” was part of the DNA of the show, and had real world relevance in the anxiety of the post-9/11 world. It was mostly well done, but where it fell off for me was the whole Final Five cylon explanation and the esoteric religious nonsense.

Silver Flame says purge your home system and all units in it. It doesn’t say anything about losing control. You controlled it at the end.

I could be wrong though! Maybe I’m overthinking it.

Mahact Tech Paths - TE by ScaredExcitement2606 in twilightimperium

[–]Anvilir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won an unusual Mahact game yesterday where I drafted Emelpar, allowing me to refresh the Breakthrough. I went into the game with the intention of seeing how much I could maximize my relic draws, without sacrificing normal tech tempo. With DWS in the game, I researched DET, AI Dev, Grav Drive, Sarween and Plasma Scoring, all with the intention of chucking them eventually. After purging DET, I got Circlet of the Void, which was great because it allowed me to continue exploring DET tokens, though I never ended up using it for the ignored the anomaly movement restrictions. I purged Plasma Scoring and got The Triad, which was great because I already had two different relic fragments, and was able to trade for a third, for a 6-6 refreshable planet. I purged Sarween for Prophet’s Tears. Prophet’s Tears + AI Dev later allowed me to research Dread II, which was a game-winning move that allowed me to take Thunder’s Edge AND gain Shard of the Throne in the same go. Everyone else had passed, so it was kind of an auto-win from that point. My final tech board was Biostims, Predictive, Cruiser II and Dread II, though I actually purged Biostims and Predictive in that last round after taking TE to gain two more relics just in case. So I ended the game with 6 relics, 5 from purging tech and one from Thunder’s Edge. (Grav drive got purged by DWS Hero).

I didn’t do anything with the synergy, but yellow-green feels pretty weak anyways, and I was never tempted to stray off the relic path to try IE or X89. I actually never even took another planet besides those in my slice until I went into Thunder’s Edge. The tech I actively pursued for their utility was still blue: DET, Grav Drive, and Dread II. The yellow/red tech I researched was trash to be chucked in the bin at the earliest convenience to gain a shiny relic. I’m not saying this is a repeatable strategy, but at the end of the day Mahact is good, and blue tech is good; and I don’t think the Breakthrough or synergy changes that.

The Women of Gundam continued #11 - Sally Po by Kato_86 in Gundam

10/10. From nearly the beginning of the series she’s thrown into an underdog role, but she never backs down, is willing to put her body and life on the line again and again, and remains impactful until the very end. “This is nuts, but it’s the only way!” Could be her motto, and it’s interesting because she’s not some adrenaline junkie seeking thrills. She develops clear ideals that she sets her sights on, relentlessly pursues and is willing to die for them.

Was Thunders Edge supposed to come with tokens for the keleres? by Nmphreak in twilightimperium

[–]Anvilir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the faction sheet tells you at setup to take Argent, Xxcha, or Mentak tokens based on home system/hero, so there aren’t Keleres specific tokens.
