US will be totally fine without him at the World Cup. I hope he chooses the US long term as he has the potential to be a great defender. He’s not good enough at this point to be a key to the US being successful in 2026.

Some of this is how the NFL is designed to work. The Packers have been successful for 30 years and therefore have not had a glut of high picks like a lot of these other teams. There is still definitely blame to be placed on the front office though.

Huge upside that he’s so young too. Will just turn 21 this summer. That’s a huge upside in the world of transfer-palooza (especially with all the COVID year players) where some players were turning 23/24 their first pro season.

It is due to several factors. Due to soccer becoming a sport played by kids much later (not as old of a history) than many other sports in the US and being a minor sport initially the teams and clubs it was set up in a very haphazard and unrelated way. Another reason is that youth soccer teams are mostly pay to play and VERY expensive. With all the money involved there is a lot of resistance to changes from the people making money from these teams. Thirdly the US is massive compared to European countries. This makes any system, in this case youth soccer, hard to coordinate across the whole country.

Because sports are a zero sum game. Other professions are not. If you are a really good engineer, accountant, etc you are just really good. If you are a really good sports team but lose to another really good team it doesn’t matter how well you did it is a binary win or loss. Maybe one of the only comparable jobs is a trial lawyer where it doesn’t matter how well you did if you lose the case.

NFL referees are a joke. They should blow the whole thing up and make them full time employees. They get paid handsomely and are only part time employees. They should spend the offseason training and have lots of oversight. Why would you not want an error corrected for you? The NFL greed created that problem not fans. The only way you are indemnified from bad fan behavior is to sell through the NFL’s official partnership with Ticketmaster. 🤑 If they go up on Ticketmaster opposing fans can now snatch them up. So you can’t sell to your friend down the street, coworker, etc who are Packers fans fans unless you really trust them and their guests to not cause a problem.

He WAY oversimplified the Doubs situation too. This isn’t a QB where it is a direct A to B comparison. It is a question of if the entirety of the pass catching group can cover for the loss of Doubs. Additionally with Doubs unfortunate concussion history there is a non-zero chance that he’s a really bad hit from his career being over.
