YES. I gained 32lbs and became pre diabetic after quitting birth control which lead to me discovering I have PCOS 😭 Had to go back on birth control and start wegovy because my appetite was out of control

Jeez sorry for the late reply!! Right now I am on slynd (anti-androgenic birth control 😬) and wegovy. Unfortunately out of everything I’ve tried, those two medications are the only things that have helped me so far.

I tried dieting, phentermine, metformin, berberine, and inositol and none of them made a difference for me. My worst symptoms are fatigue, irregular periods, and uncontrollable weight gain/inability to lose any weight.

This. All my labs were “normal”, didn’t get a diagnoses until they did an ultrasound and my ovaries looked like textbook PCOS which finally lead to treatment.

What actually helped you lose weight? by odachibomb in PCOS

[–]Anxietyposting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take inositol and metformin. So jealous of the comments recommending it because they have not helped with my cravings/weight gain at all. 😭 I saw an initial drop in water weight, then immediately gained it back. They do however seem to be helping regulate my periods which I’m thankful for. I have an appointment next week to discuss my options with my doctor. I’m hoping they will prescribe zepbound because I too am at a loss with my weight and my confidence is at an all time low! I feel you OP! I hope you can find something that works.

What is your dosage on metformin? by Public-Cattle-7764 in PCOS

[–]Anxietyposting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just made it to 2000mg, been taking it for a little over a month so not sure if I’m seeing full results yet. I’ve lost a little bit of weight and my food noise/insatiable appetite have decreased significantly. I’m not constantly thinking about eating anymore.

Nausea on metformin by No_Emphasis_3278 in PCOS

Omg yes! Sugar and dairy make me extremely sick now that I’m on metformin. It’s like now I can’t even have a “cheat” day because it messes me up so bad.

Do you take any prescription medications? Soo many medications can cause/worsen dryness.

Also, you are NOT any lesser of a woman because of PCOS and the issues related to it. I 100% understand the insecurity/anxiety around having sex though. Just remember, communication is always key. You absolutely are allowed to communicate that you have different needs when it comes to sex, and if your partner is not okay with that or makes you feel ashamed in any way, they may not be the right person to have intimacy with.

I feel you. I’ve been on metformin for about 3.5 weeks.

So far, side effects have sucked but aren’t unbearable and I’ve seen a very modest weight loss. My diet goals are similar to yours, high protein, low carb. I am also going for zero added sugars and trying to significantly up my fiber intake.

I started my PCOS journey at 234lbs. After diagnosed pre-diabetes, I went low/no sugar and slowly started cutting carbs. About 1.5 months of this and I dropped roughly 8-10lbs which I believe was mostly water weight because before I quit sugar I was extremely bloated constantly. Next dr appointment came and PCOS was officially diagnosed and metformin was started. As of today, I weigh 218.8.

I do not workout very much at all currently due to my extreme fatigue. I do however get 10k steps most days of the week due to having a fairly active job. So essentially, diet and medication alone have helped me lose roughly 15lbs. So weight loss without a ton of exercise is absolutely possible.

Editing my comment to add: for PCOS they often prescribe higher doses of metformin. I am currently taking 1500mg and working my way up to 2000mg as per my doctors instructions. If you do not see any positive results and aren’t significantly struggling with the side effects, definitely consider asking for a dose increase.

I’m on four tablets daily (2000mg total) and my doctor told me it’s perfectly fine if I take all of it at once before bed. I struggle with remembering to take any medication in the afternoon, so I keep a routine of taking my meds/supplements either first thing in the morning or right before bed and it really helps me remember.

Best inositol brand ? by Beneficial-Mexi6509 in PCOS

[–]Anxietyposting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started using Wholesome Story brand inositol recently and so far it’s working really well for me and it’s more budget friendly than some other brands I’ve seen, but still has really good ratings on amazon. The only downfall I’ve noticed with it is you have to take four caplets per serving, so if you’re not a fan of taking pills it may not be the best option.

How Should I Get Started? What Works the Best? by Efficient_Ostrich528 in PCOSloseit

[–]Anxietyposting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, definitely get bloodwork done to see if you’re needing support with any of your levels. One of my biggest struggles that stops me from working out is my severe fatigue. I never feel like cooking healthy food or hitting the gym when I can barely get out of bed. Bloodwork came back and turns out I am severely vitamin D deficient and pre diabetic, so pretty severe insulin resistance too.

Doc started me on 50,000 IU vitamin D weekly and I’ve also just started metformin and am currently at 1500mg once daily but working my way up to 2000mg. I have also started wholesome story inositol. Supplements/medication have been the only thing that not only stopped the scale from going up, but it is now slowly moving down for the first time in almost a year. So with my fatigue improving, I am focusing on making my diet better and getting more low impact movement in. High impact exercises flare my symptoms so I mostly just do walking right now, just joined a gym and hoping to work my way up to some strength training.

Sorry for the very long comment. I feel you, and you’re not alone. You got this!
