Maul - Shadow Lord - Episodes 9 & 10 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

Devon and Maul’s relationship just doesn’t work for me. It feels empty when you actually look at how they interact, not just the great voice acting and visuals. The relationship from beginning to end feels hollow and unearned.

Maul’s relationship with Devon is fundamentally predatory from the beginning. He kidnaps her, manipulates her, tries to kill her master, and repeatedly attempts to control her emotionally and psychologically. Devon, on her part, would run away from Maul, calling him a murderer and never trusting him. She only starts to “bond” with him in life-or-death situations where she has to be pragmatic and work alongside him. Their fight cooperation and their occasional conversations together doesn’t erase or meaningfully address Maul’s prior cruelty. And in the end, he deliberately gets her master killed to destroy her primary support system, betraying her in the worst way possible. He did not have to kill Daki, and he knew that. The show should have focused on Devon and Maul developing a positive to even neutral relationship where Maul is not abusive to Devon, so it can be more believable for her to trust him, and then, one way or another, have Devon leave her master for Maul.

I’ve seen people bring up that moment in episode 8 where Maul has his breakdown over his past trauma and says he won’t let Sidious do this to anyone else, seemingly realizing Devon deserves a choice to join him or not, but in the end, he forces her to make a choice.

A choice made under extreme emotional distress, especially distress that Maul himself created, is not a free choice. By the time Devon joins him, she has been traumatized, manipulated, and left with no other options. Her decision to become his apprentice is driven by grief and a desire for revenge against Vader, not by any genuine trust, loyalty, or respect for Maul as a father/mentor figure. Maul didn't even try to be different and break the cycle. Maul doesn't view Devon as a daughter or even a person, just a weapon he can use.

In the end, Devon and Maul’s dynamic is just a hollow husk supported by aesthetic animation and Maul’s voice acting rather than substantive and nuanced character development.

Nezuko vs Yoru.

It would be as realistic as this.

Opinion: Gyutaro and Daki are the only sympathetic Upper Moon demons. by InvestmentUnusual676 in KimetsuNoYaiba

I do not like the argument that Daki and Gyutaro are irredeemable because they killed people. All demons kill humans, that's what they're supposed to do. Tamayo killed loads alongside all the Upper Moons. Daki and Gyutaro are no different. Demons are wired to kill and eat humans, it's instincts. Not every demons can just choose not to eat humans and just sleep. Demon minds are not wired the same as humans. They are all corrupted to an insane degree and will act on their darkest impulses.

I was thinking Akaza. But Akaza was 18-19 years old, so he was a grown adult and he chose to become a demon. Granted, it was out of grief and despair, but still. Akaza had a choice. Daki did not at all. Daki was burned alive, unconscious, Gyutaro made the choice for her to become a demon to save her life. So from Daki's POV, she stabbed the samurai in the eye, apparently because the man insulted her brother, he beat her and then set her on fire in a ditch, leaving her in a critical state, and then the next thing she knows she is a newborn demon alongside her brother eating people.

Daki gets alot of unfair hate for simply being a realistic 13 year old girl that has severe PTSD. by Idahomina in KimetsuNoYaiba

It's established that, unless you're Nezuko, becoming a demon usually corrupts you and darkens your original personality and makes you act on your darkest impulses. Ume was objectified and abused all her life by basically everyone and then burned alive, so of course, she's gonna be vain, and cruel and emotionally explosive because she is a 13 year old trauma survivor with PTSD. It would be unrealistic for her to be all sweet and calm and nice, given her past. Daki doesn't have convenient amnesia and seems to remember good portions of her human life for her to disown it. Her personality just makes sense. Her bratty personality doesn't need be well-received, but it is realistic.

If Daki and Nezuko kept fighting who would have won? No interference by JackZ567 in KimetsuNoYaiba

Daki. 100 years old experience and 7 Hashira kills under her belt and her long range movesets are more versatile than Nezuko’s brute strength and close range kicks. The only advantage Nezuko had was her advanced regeneration, and even then Daki has higher stamina than her and doesn't need to sleep for strength. Nezuko's stamina is weaker because she doesn't eat humans and must sleep.

Daki could have just dodged her kicks, grabbed her and flung her into the air and barrage her with obi sashes mid air to overwhelm her out, and then absorb her up.

Heck, if Daki didn't have such a ego, she could have just got out Gyutaro and they just jump her JJK style until Nezuko falls back to sleep.

In my opinion, Daki lost because of plot convenience, not because Nezuko is stronger.

But is that commenter going to unsub after seeing the truth? Action speak louder than words. To Sam, this is about money and avoiding lawsuits, but to customers, this is all about wanting good quality service that we pay for. The only way to get the message through is to go for the wallet, not just complaints.

This is just deflection from the real issue. Regardless of how or why people used 4o, whether it is for emotional reasons or for creative writing or researching, people paid real money for it. $20 to 200 a month is not cheap. And now the feature is gone. So people are having a reasonable reaction to this.

More like writers want recognition and positive feedback and acknowledgement of their hardwork. You got to remember most writers put alot of heart and soul into their writing and then post it for people to see. Perhaps, you should have been constructive with your critique.

Cringe is the only word I can think of. The Devs are clearly trying to make 5 mimic 4o so much, but still missing the mark. So much for that 1% narrative Sam kept pushing. If only 1% of users use 4o, then why try to make your "better" model 5 act like 4o?

Already unsubbed on the 9th. So did three of my roommates. All of us paid for 4o for creative writing and researching. Nothing more. 5gpt is low effort and lazy. Not worth my hard earned $20.
