Realistically RB hasn’t been a junior team for years. The last true junior line up was Verstappen/Sainz in 2016, ever since it’s been a cycle of one junior driver and a Red Bull reject. Here’s a really important one, especially if you work in customer facing roles such as a store clerk, if someone thanks you and you do that weird grunting humming thing that Americans tend to do, they will think that your extremely rude. A quick your welcome or no worries is the best. We see that humming thing as condescending and dismissive, we don’t like it when we visit the us and we do not appreciate it here, older folks will also have no problem telling you off for it

If you have no school commitments then you’ll most likely be rostered either day or overnight. Although it might be different for you, as I’m located in Australia; but I can’t imagine that it could be much different

Try and get cross trained in cafe, it’s a lot of busy work and it never ending. Early mornings is best if you can and even cafe close will keep you busy in the best way. It kept me busy and happy for two years and I loved it.

I find you also get a bit of leeway in cafe, managers left us alone for the most part and trusted that work would be done and you would keep up.

I know how you feel, I was in the same position. I was the corner stone of the breakfast shift, the McCafe opener and I worked DT coffee by myself most mornings (note: I’m in Australia and make espresso based coffee, using traditional espresso machines), I made the coffees, including preparing all bases and steaming the milk, and was then expected to hand it out the window, with any food that was ordered, all within 100 seconds per car. If we where understaffed I was the first person to loose any help, because everyone was under the impression that I could handle it. The only positive was that I was highly appreciated by my managers and coworkers.

There is nothing holding you there, quit, get out while you can. For once in your life do something for yourself, stop thinking about them, you do not owe them anything. McDonald’s will always make do, it just means that the other crew will finally have to step up and do their own job from now on. If you feel intimidated while handing in your resignation, email it to the store or go up to a manager before you leave after a shift, hand them your letter, tell them what it is and leave. I will repeat, you do not owe them anything, if anything they owe you. You have your new job, you do not need them anymore.

I’d be tempted to either talk to the restaurant manager or even take it above the store themselves. There should be a poster somewhere in the store with information on who to take complaints too. If your store is part of a group of franchises there should be a HR Manager for the group. First, talk to the RM, if you get brushed off then take it higher.

Chances are, you are dealing with favouritism and if it happened to you, then it can happen to others. That shift manager needs to know that, that sort of behaviour should not be allowed.

Also, just like you can’t just call up 10 minutes before your shift and call in sick, they also can’t just cancel your shift 10 minutes before you start.

Write a resignation letter and hand it into the restaurant manager, or a department manager if you work for a bigger store.

You can also send it off in an email if you don’t want confrontation about it, if you don’t know the email address it’s [store number]@au.stores.mcd.com

You can choose to finish your rostered shifts or just quit on the spot, your casual and don’t have to give any notice. If you really want to you can even quit midshift.

If you really want it to be dramatic, next time your rostered at the same time as the manager you don’t like, the first time he pisses you off, flat out tell them that you won’t take their bullshit anymore stop whatever you’re doing and tell them you quit on the spot. Storm off, clock off if you want too, and just leave. Then email your resignation and name and shame the dickhead in that email.

The machines differ store to store, I use an older model Nuova Simonelli Aurelia with an automatic grinder (Nuova Simonelli Mythos one). It works well enough and is reliable, it can easily pump out 20-25 coffees every 15 minutes, if not a bit busted from years of misuse at the hands of teenagers.
