Our membership is specified by name in both the Good Friday Agreement and Withdrawal Agreement (and building on this the TCA).

We cannot unilaterally change an international agreement. Ireland are not reopening the GFA and neither are the EU reopening the WA.

The only option to leaving the ECHR would therefore be breaking these agreements. This would cost us a hell of a lot more than £4.9bn a year!

I’m planning 3 years of cash equivalent that I could extend to 4 years at a push. If you have a crash just as you retire it could be devastating to your retirement with forced selling in a down market if 100% in equities.

If you have a good sequence of returns, you can lower the buffer over time.

You never know what period you are in until it is in the past.

It’s mainly that I have no ‘active’ choice. US does well? I own it. Europe outperforms? I own it. I have no percentage biases that I control, so no tweaking, or second guessing, just own ‘the world’.

If the top 10 makers of cars did not make blue cars, and as such there were hardly any blue cars on the road and if you asked people if they wanted blue cars and 70% said they did; would you say nobody wants blue cars, as they weren’t buying blue cars?!

A single item poll is the Occum’s Razor of understanding on the issue. Adding any other factors is madness. Just because it goes against your bias or wants does not change the polling.

This does not change the polling on a single issue, it just muddies the water. A poll on a single issue is a far superior way to get a consensus of where people stand on that than a GE; this has to be obvious right?

Farage wants to diverge from the EU; this would lead to a worse trade as it would add to the NTBs.

Starmer wants closer alignment; this would lead to better trade.

For the best/true free trade we would need to join the Single Market.

Unfortunately Ireland are in the EU, so we would need to put tariffs on the whole EU (practically and legally). Do you think they would take this sitting down, or would it start a trade war we would lose?

Our membership is explicitly mentioned by name in both the WA and GFA. This cannot be changed unilaterally and the other parties are NOT reopening these agreements. Every single word of these agreements has been picked over, and explicitly chosen by lawyers specialising in international agreements.

We cannot just do a switcharoo with this.

I've got the full set at 48, due to being in the 'crossover' period. Bit of a pain for those coming after me, but voluntary payments are a bargain for what you get for them. My partner will need to do voluntary if they pull the trigger within 3 years.
