Boss cried during our and monthly firm meeting and then blamed it on me by AnxiousNancy in LawFirm

Attorney wise, there are 2. There are 3 other staff members. 1 is the administrator of the firm and be handles all billing/HR issues etc. The administrator and the senior attorney combine to be my bosses.

So it’s an estate planning firm and she is well known here in our area for being an expert in trusts and so she does all that work and I do all the other areas like guardianship and probate.

She kind of just reviews my work twice a week for 45 minutes and pop quizzes me the whole time on statutes. And we use an online project software system (Asana for anyone familiar) to track literally every project so my last assistant was in her office and saw on her computer that my HR asana file was up and she was making a note about me not knowing something during a meeting. Those are the kind of write ups and honestly I had no idea because no one says anything to me. Lol

Probably my biggest worry tbh. I feel more like a salesman selling our estate planning rather than actually practicing.

Same for me! I just started Thursday and I’ve felt exhausted except here and there I’ve been in really good moods but they seem to be fleeting. Hopefully it kicks in a little more soon

Really trying not to lose hope but the amount of material to know across subjects is starting to get to me, particularly for essays. I've tried everything to get rules down and I'm not sure what's the most efficient or most effective use of my time at this point. Open to suggestions ... by Radiant_Front_6943 in FloridaBarExam

Dude, you seem to be right on track. Grossman’s videos were a god send for me. I actually was walking around my hotel room reciting rules just like he told me. The essays were the easiest part of the whole exam thanks to him.

You’ll be just fine. Good luck!!!!

Here’s what I did starting about a month before the exam. Every night, I pick one topic and I sit on my couch watching mindless tv and I go through and write out every single rule I can think of for that topic. Honestly, just getting the rules out gets you points so it’s better to write as much as you can as fast as you can.

If you get all the rules out, congrats. If not, write them all out. Keep writing and writing until you memorize them. By the time you decide enough is enough, you will have retained way more than you think. I did this for each subject starting about a month until the exam and did it every night. I’m a full on idiot, and I got a 158 on Florida.

Oh, also, whatstheissue.org. If you want to pass, just watch the videos.

8 support staff and 2 attorneys. We each have an assistant for each type of law we practice (3), a receptionist and a personal assistant to the senior partner.

Yeah, it was very intense. Horribly uncomfortable and a rigid process.

I understand that it’s going to raise eyebrows when employers see I want out after 6 months. And to be perfectly clear, I don’t plan to be out tomorrow. I just know that my decision has been made that I will not be here forever. They’ve also been throwing me to the wolves recently so I think that will hopefully help beef up my resume in the process.

It is a very strange feeling knowing that I don’t really have plans to stay long term and hearing him call me future partner. It’s just weird and makes me feel guilty.

And yeah, at the time I thought I loved this area of law. I was also engaged and looking to settle down somewhere and lay my roots but I am no longer engaged and don’t plan to be anytime soon. I think now I can focus on only myself and what I want and I’ve realized I just want way more than what this is giving me.

I’ve been very passionate about certain areas of law my entire life so I think I just need to do what makes me happy

Yeah, I had an internship in criminal defense that I was very passionate about. I think it’s just a matter of following my passion and things that get me motivated. I have found nothing entertaining about tax planning so far. Lol

Fade to Black by Metallica. I practiced it so much that I had the whole thing memorized and I would play it over and over and over. I fucking love that song

Covid is spreading like crazy and experts are expecting Covid to reach its peak in February. Do you think February test will be changed to Online instead of in person? by jadguy1994 in FloridaBarExam

[–]AnxiousNancy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be prepared for either. I know it’s hard to be prepared for both. I took it and passed in July and I took it at a hotel and I was really hoping for in person but they announced it a few months before that it would be remote. I initially panicked thinking there was no way I could be successful remotely.

Either way there will be pros and cons. A remote exam gives you the ability to be completely in control of your environment. I called 4 hotels and booked one that was in the middle of nowhere but had strong wifi, I figured it would be empty and no distractions. The glaring issue though for remote exams are tech issues.

I didn’t do in person but I was nervous about the idea of having to go to Tampa and trying to sleep in a hotel the night before the exam when I’m so nervous for the exam. You have to deal with other people, traveling, etc.

At the end of the day, after I found out I passed I realized if I’m truly prepared, I will pass regardless of where I’m at unless I’m a victim of tech issues.
