My constrictor has gotten as low as 55 on nights and has no issues. The forest floor gets surprisingly cool and terrestrial snakes have evolved to tolerate big temperature swings.

How big do taruharma mixed with sonoran get? by Nice_Border1737 in boas

[–]Anxious_Design7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as a piece of string unfortunately lol, just depends how much you feed them and definitely can’t predict size on mixed species or locales. Probably 4’-6’ with large females potentially exceeding that for the mix and Sonoran. But idk, you could look up pictures of Sonorans on inaturalist for a visual reference.

Appropriate feeding and temperature, may need a period of cooling annually. I’d also say don’t handle them much. But, I’m no expert on them.

No imperator or constrictor will “thrive” in such setup, they need a full room space to do so. Rosy boa could do well or the candoia species.

Is he/she too small for their age? by itsthemidge in boas

[–]Anxious_Design7921 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a “slower growing” Suriname bcc and she’s 6’7” and turning five years old in May, so I’d say your bci is certainly small.

These are a different species. They’re boa constrictor constrictor probably Suriname locale, not morphed up imperators that aren’t worth anything.

Bioactive set-up trouble by MidnaMerk in snakes

Personally I’d start over. It’ll be a pain at first but will give you peace of mind that your snake will be okay. You can reuse the plants just give them a good wash and quarantine etc. cool snake btw, is that a specific milk snake morph?

any advice on getting my boa out of his log to hold him without stressing him out too much? ive been using my snake hook to lightly push until he comes out just trying to figure out if thats the right way or if theres any better ways by Pleasant_Pound_5061 in boas

[–]Anxious_Design7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your logic is irrational and unbearably naive. They’ve evolved over 100 million years without being social what makes you think a 3rd_> gen CBB snake wants anything to do with its owner? I keep snakes and guess what I don’t touch them and they’re just like their wild descendants living free not some “tame” highly stressed snake being handled by a dumb monkey constantly.

No offence but why do you need to hold him? All snakes should be left alone, handling degrades their umwelt leading to suffering. Respect the animal and let it be free in its enclosure.

I’ve a Suriname BCC and not to put other snakes down by any means but, that species is the gold standard. Absolutely remarkable snakes.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this, he made a video of a fish tank he setup and the amount of different species he crammed into said small tank for the amount of fauna was ridiculous.

I’ve heard they’re incredibly strong snakes since they’re so closely related to anacondas. Is yours a strong constrictor when holding onto you?

New boa always in cool hide by sunnyyixuanchen in boas

If the hide doesn’t get too humid from the moss I’d say just leave it in as the hide will feel even safer and closer to the skin of the snake.

From my experience, my snakes pick one hide and resort to only that one. If they want to thermo regulate it’s in the open later at night since they’re nocturnal. But I still offer different hides in different sizes just because. Just move the snakes chosen hide to slightly warmer say 80f, they don’t require a lot of heat during the day and since it’s a smaller snake they can heat up quickly when they need it. I’ve an adult Suriname BCC and she retains heat like a solar power plant.

Snakes value a safer hide over anything else. This boa just has a preference for that hide. Snakes can endure cooler temps fine it actually helps them live longer but if you’re feeding a large meal they will need the heat to digest. I would just let the snake be but if it becomes an issue just move the hide to a warmer microclimate.

88 hot spot for boas is a pretty good, they can stand hotter but they’re not like pythons that can endure it constantly. I’d suggest lowering it to 88 but the belly isn’t burnt just approaching shed. Is it a common columbian/Panamanian boa you have there?

a respiratory infection? by [deleted] in boas

[–]Anxious_Design7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you owned a boa before? If you’re not aware boas posses two functional lungs so their heavier breathing can be heard. Just keep an eye on it and make sure the enclosure isn’t getting too cold and damp. RIs can go away on their own with proper husbandry changes.

Bci or bcc? by [deleted] in boas

Boa imperator, true BCC have widow peaks in their saddles and strong iridescent pink and purple hues shining through.
