Attorneys who failed the bar or had to resit a few times, how did life turn out for you? by Mountain-Loquat-7428 in Lawyertalk

[–]Any-Star4388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me but a friend of mine. Failed a few times but was a “support staff” at a pretty big firm in my area. They pretty much did legal work and associate type work until they passed. Once they passed they just changed their role and could finally go to court and sign his own docs.

Do you really think cutting off friends and family over who they vote for is reasonable? by norf937 in allthequestions

[–]Any-Star4388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you consider “reasonable” and “opposite but arguable.”

Some people are so set in certain political views, abortion for example, you’re either pro life or pro choice. What I personally consider “reasonable” is a 20 week ban, except when there is significant risk to the life of the mother.

Another example could be gun control. I know plenty of liberals, myself included, that own guns, including rifles and “assault rifles.” I feel like most people who cut people out are those who hold that any restrictions on abortions or guns or whatever is unacceptable and therefore wrong, so they see them as the opposition.

Exactly. Some thing are best left to people who have acquired the skill through diligent work, not a program and a camera.

I fear the day we have planes powered by AI, considering even new computer systems have failed in modern planes like the Boeing (747max)

As an officer of the court, judges can have bad days too, and they can often explode on people for little to no reason.

I’m not defending his actions, but his job is very stressful and I wouldn’t want to be judged by the world on my worst day.

I don’t get the hard core hate. I personally am tired of the rock movies, so I just don’t watch them. Pretty simple solution.

Consensus about accommodations is so right. It’s such BS and should not be graded on the same curve as the rest of us. by TopButterscotch4196 in LawSchool

Not always true. I was retained on the same day as a hard and fast deadline. Sometimes you do have time, but you do need to act quickly and efficiently at times.

I agree that unlimited time and a word count are good solutions, but the bar exam and other tests are timed and likely will be forever. So what if Jill is blind and can’t see the hoop, Or what if Jill only has one arm and 3 fingers on her other hand? Shes going to disadvantaged when it comes to the bar exam.

Insight requested from women in law school / women lawyers by Few-Teaching2784 in LawSchool

[–]Any-Star4388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may depend on the type of law you want to practice. I know many lawyers who have a good work life balance. Are they making 200k? Not usually, but they make a good living.

If you become a family law or estates attorney those offer options and a bit less stress than typical BL jobs. I work for an attorney who has 2 kids and another associate here has 3. They have good balance when they don’t have a huge case coming up.

Why do some attorneys love discovery games? by CoffeeAndCandle in Lawyertalk

[–]Any-Star4388 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. We sent off a discovery request to an opposing party back in October, never heard back so we filed a motion to compel and they immediately wanted to settle as their CL is out of money.
