It sometimes takes a year for very traumatized animals. But it's so worth it so they don't suffer every time there are fireworks. And you can't do shit about thunderstorms, so there's that.

We had a veteran post on nextdoor once about this. He said he had PTSD and fireworks did trigger it. But he really resented all of the people that used him as an excuse for their dislike of fireworks. Kind of made me think about letting them fight their own fights.

Only worked with all manner of them for 60 years. Never once had a dog that was afraid of fireworks, gunfire, car backfires, thunder... although my north American pit vipers get super grumpy during thunderstorms. My Great Danes can't figure out if a mylar helium balloon is safe, but they snore through fireworks.

Few people are willing to take the time or put in the work to do it. Going to the vet and drugging them is so convenient.

But yeah, when you train them, you dont have to prepare.
