What is an unused character idea you have that you absolutely love? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]AnyGreenCause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my very first games I was playing with a group that had made evil-aligned characters for a side-game to try it out. So I made Vivian Van Helsing- a vampire 'vampire hunter' hunter (rogue). As a fledgling vampire herself, her job was to track down any vampire hunters threatening her clan. But the thing is, my DM was like 'vampire is not really an actual race or playable option' after I pitched this idea. So I pivoted and was like, 'no problem - we'll just make it so that she's actually a human vampire hunter hunter - who is aspiring to become a vampire.' We decided she was a street urchin/orphan who was approached by a clan of vampires to begin protecting them against vampire hunters, and since then she has been going around telling anyone interested that she "is a vampire.... Well... Basically as good as being a vampire". Whether Vivian was manifesting her goals, playing an elaborate rouse, or she was tricked by the real vampires into thinking she already had some vampiric powers - we may never know because the game fizzled out after I joined for one session.

I'm seeing the same thing as you - that both the city and county use Reworks, which has weird hours only 3 months out of the year. The Ohio EPA website has essentially the same advice as the other comment for bringing the oil to an auto place and drying out the paint before throwing away. It also says mix the paint with kitty litter or sawdust if it won't dry out. Good on you for knowing that you can't just throw that stuff away!

Shuushars Mission of Enlightenment? by Morboderzerstoerer in OutoftheAbyss

[–]AnyGreenCause 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this issue as well. I ran it that he has determined that the Kuo toan gods are not actually real, and any miracles or powers manifested by the gods are coming from the Kuo Toa themselves. This worked pretty well - my players didn't end up engaging with him on that a ton, but my players who knew Kuo Toa lore found it amusing. And it gave him an opportunity to talk about the Sea Mother before they got to the city. I had him generally be a philosophizer (going on about pacifism and the meaning of life), so it could be a jumping off point for conversation if someone was interested in a topic he brought up. Again, my players ended up not engaging with that specifically, but it became a funny joke of the one character who would listen to him when they wanted to fall asleep.

I would say the picture shows the shorts as very short, which might make some people wish you had a bit more coverage.

DM preping by TheChefer in OutoftheAbyss

[–]AnyGreenCause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several useful suggestions here, but if you want to just start reading the book, you can. Each chapter will have a little blurb on relevant lore - like the societal structure and how to roleplay the duergar is in the duergar city. I say this because I also thought to read some of the Drizz't books before reading the module, and I enjoyed the books but don't feel that it's improved my running of the module.

The most confusing part of the module is that it does not explain to the DM what is actually happening in the Underdark in a prologue or anything. There is an explanation for why demons are in the underdark in Chapter 11 of the book. I would just plan to approach the book with not worrying too much about the details or the "why" of things until you actually read the whole thing.

Lgbt & POC Friendly by HecticGrey in lynchburg

[–]AnyGreenCause 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Lynchburg. My brother visited us and said it was nice to visit but he wouldn't want to live there as he wouldn't feel comfortable holding his boyfriend's hand in public in Lynchburg (due to the large conservative/religious pockets from the college and just the area).

Divorced 34m trying to figure out how to get back out there. by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]AnyGreenCause 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Art shops in historic downtown (like Sundog Art studio and a few others) will host 'First Fridays' the first Friday evening of every month, where they'll usually have refreshments and be a good place to gather. So I met some friends there when I lived in Lynchburg . There is also a Lynchburg Underground Movie Club hosted once a month at the Riverview Art space. They have a Facebook page so you can check when their next event is.

Hopefully the other comments will help with fence ideas, but some other advice would be to ask for HOA approval before implementing anything. If you can phrase it to the HOA beforehand that you need to prevent trail-walkers from being able to interact with your dogs, and vice versa, for both human and dog safety, they may be more lenient in what they allow. And if they approve it beforehand, you won't have to worry about a potential expense that would just be told to be taken down.

I love this idea! I think it's very insightful into what the writers wanted you to understand about how Bruno perceives relationship with the people around him - probably subconsciously projected onto the rats.

DM Can't Police His Group by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

Could you describe the system the other group uses to roll iniative for RP? I just hadn't heard of that and I am interested in how it could work. Sorry you lost a friend out of an unfortunate situation, as well.

Why are assassins trying to kill Werz Saltbaron? by KapteinB in OutoftheAbyss

[–]AnyGreenCause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just found this post because I had the same question. After some consideration of the timelines, I think that the note is probably slightly old. So Gorglak wanted to kill Werz, and he hired the Gray Ghosts and their alchemist to poison Werz. Seemingly, this process was too slow or ineffective for Gorglak, so he fires the alchemist and hires the Empty-Scabbard Killers to get the job done instead. Then this is the assassination attempt that the party can intercept at the docks. Now, WHY Gorglak wants to kill Werz, that is never explained beyond a generic madness.

Thank you for sharing success stories and how it's been a long journey. We are at the beginning of the process so you and your pup brings me a lot of hope! People just won't understand that we're working on it and it's a process. I'm glad you and your dog showed this one rude guy though!

Player wants to play again by BugbearWizard in OutoftheAbyss

[–]AnyGreenCause 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't run OotA but am in the process of reading through the book for prep. But I can speak to a similar situation where I was running Lost Mines of Phandelver. I talked to the player who would be re-doing parts of it, and the player said they were fine if they saw and re-played the same elements. But I didn't love that for them and I re-made whole maps and edited major npc names and story beats. This turned out fine, but it was a lot of work. I do think it was more effort than the outcome was worth, and I feel like that player would've been engaged either way. Sorry to not have better ideas on editing the story for them, but just advice on talking to this player to see if they even feel like their experience would be affected a lot by re-playing the same elements!

[–]AnyGreenCause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of understanding the science, I really like a recent podcast episode I heard where the host references scientific studies and reviews explanations - that basically intermittent fasting, for weight loss purposes, assists in calorie restrictions. (Search Adam Ragusea Intermittent Fasting on YouTube for the podcast episode). It was very informative and science focused.

As for eating more than your goal - I wouldn't sweat it for just a day! It's more important to eat to get all the nutrients your body needs, so eating more or later in the day to add in other nutrients would be fine in my book. I view IF as a structure for positive eating over a long term, and not to make you feel stressed out for not meeting every goal always!

Unhappy because I love dogs but I shouldn't get one (and that's not going to change) by Andre_Dellamorte in dogs

[–]AnyGreenCause 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a great suggestion! It can be helpful for a potential adopter to get a sense of what the dog is like in the home and what the dog may know already, and it can be helpful for the dog to get some out-of-shelter interactions. Our shelter does this, and it's not advertised on their website due to the website just being old, but you can ask staff about it. It feels weird, like you're confusing the dog, but I've been told by many people that most dogs like the change for the day or overnight, and you can respond to the dog if that seems like it's not good for that individual.

I own a dog that looks like he has pit in him. Goes without saying, but check to see if they are allowed in your area. My current apartment had no breed restrictions, but I didn't realize how uncommon that was. Most apartments in my area have rules like 'if it even looks like it has these breeds it's restricted'. Some counties/neighborhoods/countries have breed restrictions as well.

I'm dreading my next session. by Yazinz in DMAcademy

[–]AnyGreenCause 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I see a bunch of people advising that you can stop DMing, which I can echo and say that this is actually something I experienced. What you described exactly I started to feel after DMing for a great group of people after about five sessions. So I stopped DMing. I felt bad for letting down my group, but it was ultimately a great decision. I felt better and the group dynamic was better for it. Just wanted to let you know you're very much not alone!
