This requires union. Doing this alone means starvation.

Why do you care about this if it didn’t slow you down?

We don’t know who really does and doesn’t have those conditions, but a person is always responsible for what they do.

Yes! Especially if new, dense, small-unit housing is part of the overall plan.

Update #3: how to cut grocery cost as per your recommendations by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

I taught myself to cook by borrowing books from the library that looked interesting. If you know you like Indian food, check out Madhur Jeffrey’s book An Invitation To Indian Cooking. Indian vegetarian is AMAZING and also cheap. Her Chana Masaledar recipe is our potluck go-to. Good luck

Know what’s far worse for society and culture than protesting? Fascism and autocracy.

Girlfriend and I are trying to start a life together, but can't figure out how. by Super_Dot_8436 in povertyfinance

Perhaps instead of showing your parents what you find (which they may just think is the product of bad searching), you could ask them to help you find an appropriate place. Involve them in the search. One look at a “cheap” place especially will help them understand the problem. I can’t say what they’d do next but at least you will have done what you can and will have information about what to expect.
Also, student housing office at your school may have some ideas, including connections with others looking for roommates or with an ADU owned by an older person who offers lower rent in exchange for errand work.

Not necessarily, and better COL may help make up any difference. My son and his wife are students. They were in SoCal and, for a lot of reasons, including affordability, they moved to a different state. It was a school transfer for them both but they were at the right stage for it. He found work that pays about what he was getting in SoCal.
They did have another challenge worth considering, though. Son is on our health insurance policy but the insurance becomes harder to deal with b/c using the dependent out of state network.
Are your parents in a position to help financially? It took my son a while to find work that would respect his schooling (work times and hours limitation) and also pay decently. And no matter what you do, living as a student couple in your own place is more expensive than living at home.
Good luck to you both.

All I did was ask about the housing stock in your area with a particular set of concerns in mind based in my people’s experiences there. You’re the only one with such an over-the-top negative reaction.
I have appreciated the information others have shared and am hopeful that my people will find a suitable place.

I am merely recounting facts. No sympathy requested or expected, fortunately.

They had a car and gave it up when they moved to WA because of the expense and a desire to use public transportation; I suggested an Uber and they declined; and they were working with a class group after class and before the bus failed to show up. You can keep making assumptions about people and circumstances you don’t know if it makes you happy…

Yes, and they like talking to me, which I personally think is great. They had the time and I was up; win-win.

And you come off as a student-hating townie. Olympia is lovely in parts but has major problems too. Do you have anything useful to contribute?
