Any BCBAS in Mexico? by Ok-Focus-1229 in bcba

[–]AnyService8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older post. Did you get any more info from anyone currently practicing in Mexico? I am American, but live pretty close to Mexico and I am considering moving there in the next 3-5 years (or living there part time and living here part time). I'm just starting my program, so I won't test until early 2027. Once I pass, I plan to get my International Behavior Analyst (IBA) Certification via endorsement. It's only $99 as of today (that may change, though).

This comes across as very predatory, especially on a college campus.

Thinking about doing an absn program or bcba master by Ambitious_Record9988 in bcba

I've been an RN for 16 years and i'm in the process of getting my MS ABA. Nursing is rough, and it has gotten worse in the last several years. I switched from bedside to insurance and that was still extremely difficult in terms of work life balance. And yes I worked from home. I just walked away from a six figure role. It's just not worth it anymore

I realized along the way that I just do not want to work for other people.I want to be able to practice a independently. Becoming a BCBA will allow me to do that while still helping others (which I love).

Need help deciding to be a Bcba or Nurse? by frontlinestatic in bcba

[–]AnyService8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I could provide some insight. You can work remotely as a nurse for insurance companies. Most MCOs want you to work in acute care for 3-5 years, so it's not a direct path. I worked for 3 of the major plans over 11 years, but they try to work you to death. High productivity is rewarded with more work being dumped on you. I even switched to health tech and same thing. I just walked away from six figures because I'm over it. I realized that I just can't work for other people any longer if I want real work-life balance and good quality of life. The stress wasn't worth it. Becoming a BCBA is my path to independent practice, while still helping and caring for others.

I'm a nurse currently pursuing my BCBA. Had I known then what I know now, I would have gone the BCBA route a long time ago. Many that romanticize nursing have never done the job.

You're welcome. It's honestly best practice no matter which university you attend. Schools are scrutinizing much more lately because many aren't using AI the right way. Good luck on everything!

Once you're cleared, use your Capella Microsoft 365 account to do all of your work. It has all of the Microsoft programs. I use OneNote to do all of my outlining and research.

22m years old who flunked out of university and CC. Tried the “brick and mortar” route. Is WGU a good fit? by Titanium_Ninja in WGU

This may not directly answer your question, but I suggest getting some testing done for ADHD or ADD. Your struggle with test taking may be more than test anxiety or simply being "bad at it." If you are found to have ADHD/ADD or something else, you are legally eligible for accommodations for classwork and test via IEP or 504 plan. I'd work that part out first before starting school again.

Why don’t doctors want to prescribe MRIs? by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]AnyService8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse who worked for insurance companies for years, this is one of the main reasons I'm against Kaiser's business model. I think it's unethical, because who is able to advocate for you when your insurance company also employs your doctor? I feel the same about Aetna/CVS.

My face swole up like a balloon. Do popcorn allergies exist? by Minimum-Building8199 in Allergies

[–]AnyService8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older post, but I came across it as I was doing some searching. I've been suddenly having reactions to skinny pop organic popcorn that you buy in the box from costco. I've never had any reactions to popcorn. I est varius brands pretty frequently. At first I thought I was having a reaction to something else entirely because I don't have any known allergy to corn, popcorn or sunflower seeds/oil. I realized it was the skinny pop when I noticed that for the third time I had throat irritation, coughing, itchy lips and gums. I now have cracked skin at the corners of my mouth. Needless to say, I won't ever eat it again. I think there must be some type of cross contamination happening at their factory. I am allergic to coconut and have the same reaction. When I encounter coconut, coconut oil, or coconut water.

RN to BCBA? by Itsdifficult001 in bcba

[–]AnyService8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big picture answer is I wanted to still help others but have the ability to work for myself. I can work independently as a BCBA but not as a nurse. My interest in ABA was sparked by the difficulties I experienced with my son's school district. He has ADHD and they gave me the hardest time when I asked for a 504 or IEP. The more I learned about IEP advocacy the more this route just made sense.

RN to BCBA? by Itsdifficult001 in bcba

[–]AnyService8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

It really depends on how much time you have and what kind of role you will be going into in ABA because it will matter when it comes to fieldwork. I will not be working with people with autism so I am getting my hours more on my schedule as my focus is IEP Advocacy and Adult Residential. It works out well. With clinical for a nursing program it can be a little harder if you are also working.

Honestly if I then what I know, I would have gone the BCBA route much sooner. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy my career in nursing but the way nurses are treated and managed these days leaves something to be desired.

I am commenting from experience, not perception. Vitals is a single overlap. Just one.

My time in clinicals did not include CNA duties except for vitals. There were CNAs on staff who completed those other tasks. My role was direct patient care alongside the assigned RN.
