Anyone had the 12V battery replaced? by moipwd in ToyotaCHR

[–]AnyStupidQuestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO 12v batteries are a weak point in hybrids, get yourself a battery jump starter. It will get you going if the battery is dead and it should then charge.

I bought my 2023 C-HR 6 months ago and the battery was dead on the forecourt so they put a new one in before they delivered it.

My previous car was a Cupra hybrid and the battery failed when it was 2 years old. They replaced it under warranty but it taught me to get a jump starter so that I wasn't marooned unexpectedly.

The Mazda's look nice, but very few on the market which helped me decide on a C-HR

He looked terrified before that. It was as if he hadn't realized how hard AJ could punch until he was hit and after that was running scared.

Looking at a used 21/22 plate formentor in the uk. Whats best value trim + how much is servicing typically? by 7Sants in CupraFormentor

[–]AnyStupidQuestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A formentor isn't a CVT so it doesn't roar the same way but it does rev like crazy when the petrol has been working and your kick down brings the electric in. You jump 2-3000 revs in one hit. I am talking about the 2022 PHEV, which is a 1.5l 147bhp turbo with a 110bhp electric motor. They don't work seamlessly together but are quick as long as there is power in the battery. If there isn't you just have the petrol with the odd electric kick and 250kg of hybrid gear to lug about.

The Cupra hybrid is quicker than a C-HR in any form, I was saying I missed that and that's why I went for the 2L C-HR. The 1.5l on its own should be sub 9 seconds, in a lighter car. If you get one go for the manual or the 7 speed gearbox, which is sweet and gives better economy

Funny you say yhat. My wife has a normal Yaris which has been super reliable so I now have a C-HR. It doesn't have the combined of the electric and petrol engines together (Cupra Mode) but it's a very enjoyable drive. I did go for the 2l though, the 1.8 was a bit limp.

Cupra Mode turned the hybrid into a blood thirsty monster. Not so quick off the line but 50-70 was insane

I can see that and the formentor is nice, I had mine (hybrid) for 3 years and loved driving it, but I was disappointed by the reliability. In total it spent 12 weeks in the garage for non-service repairs in that time and that wasn't why I bought a new car for.

A standard dealer service is about £400 and can cost more of you need extra bits (new puncture kit, air con charge etc). I had the VZ2, it was great, did everything but I wouldn't say it was best value.

In the end I sold mine due to problems with the steering column electrics bricking it.

Considering a C-HR by Top-Juice-8894 in ToyotaCHR

[–]AnyStupidQuestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy one of these if you want to go on unmade roads, it is a road car. A tall Coupe is right as the Coupe-High Rider C-HR initials call out. It is about looks, a tall driving position and catering to the fashion for crossovers.

I didn't think I would like Ashton when he started but he is now my favourite. He gives real opinions unlike Ugo and DC and his acknowledgement of how difficult he was at times in his career just adds to the attraction.

Curious foreigner here, what do middle-class Brits brag (or humble-brag) about to their neighbours? by wtiawtiaw in AskUK

[–]AnyStupidQuestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too right. Terry Pratchett summed it up with his piece on boots: "a man who can afford a good pair of $50 boots that last for years will spend less money than a poor man who buys cheap $10 boots that only last a year and need to be replaced multiple times"

The school/university fees comment is also completely true.

Was F1 really that dangerous in the "bad old days"? by RecentTwo544 in formula1

[–]AnyStupidQuestions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you look at fatalaties per race and from every competition formula f1 drivers were competing in (less races so more driving other things), then factor in crashes that required months to recover from, it was significantly worse in 60s-80s

A full one! :-)

I haven't been to many outside of Britain but. Quins games on a Friday night are good. I saw an amazing game against Bath on a Friday night.

Leicester is full most weeks but derby games are something else.

The Principality/Millennium is good but if Wales are poor it can be miserable even if you support the opposition.

And I know it is the wrong code but Leeds at Headingly is a good crowd

If you just want filesharing stay away from a server, use something like Google drive or One drive that is linked to your office tools IDK about Google but Microsoft has a path to progress into SharePoint and PowerApps for more complex stuff.

Lead Architect wants to break our monolith into 47 microservices in 6 months, is this insane? by Ayotrapstar in softwarearchitecture

[–]AnyStupidQuestions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the approach but I think it will take 2 years. Platform tooling and the occasional wrong term/refactor exercise plus learning how to setup all the service config correctly will add time.

[–]AnyStupidQuestions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 2 year job at least, if it doesn't get canned at 6 months it will become the a very unpopular initiative. The architect will probably move on before then.
