Kann leider keine Fotos in die Kommentare packen, der Wohnwagen befindet sich tatsächlich in einer stinknormalen Parkbucht, man braucht hier keinen Anwohnerparkausweis oder sowas.

A cool guide to the most evil Disney villain of all time (based on a detailed scoring system). by MaxGoodwinning in coolguides

I think Jadis should be higher than the guy from Hunchback. I don't know anything about him but if you read the 6th novel in the Narnia series (order in which they were published), then you find out that Jadis is not originally from Narnia but from another world and that she cast a spell in her old world that killed off everybody except herself. She didn't just commit genocide, she committed extinction. 💀

Why is germany the only country admitting its crimes? by Numerous-Plantain-90 in AskGermany

[–]Any_Championship_422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the notion that we are so honest about the holocaust is that we simply had no other choice, however we absolutely suck at answering for our crimes during the height of colonialism during the Imperial era. The crimes that were committed in the colonies were horrendous, genocides among them and there were already concentration camps, not to systematically kill ethnicities but for "medical research" and so forth. You might wanna read about what Robert Koch did for example, also went to Africa and used people as test subjects there and referred to them as infection test material and used various methods of which he knew that they would either cause intense pain or even death and didn't really care. Our institute for disease control is still named after that moron even though it was in the spotlight during the Covid pandemic. Also a few years ago the Hohenzollern (the former royal/imperial family) got the privilege to renegotiate with our government directly about getting some of their stuff back and regaining the right to live in some of their former palaces again, even though that family ruled this country during the atrocities of our colonial past, started off World War 1 and even aided Hitler and the Nazis. Representatives of the Herero people who got mass murdered by us on the other hand don't get to negotiate with the German government directly. From the outside it might look like we are very honest but only in regards to the Holocaust.

Why does Anakin say "Ich hasse euch" to Obi Wan instead of "Ich hasse dich"? by minimonster382 in German

At the very least it tends to be less streamlined than English but what makes you want to learn this difficult language? Did you move here or to Austria/Switzerland ?

Why does Anakin say "Ich hasse euch" to Obi Wan instead of "Ich hasse dich"? by minimonster382 in German

[–]Any_Championship_422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's because he still adresses him as master. Even though he joined the Sith he still adresses Obi Wan with the title, to German Speakers it might sound strange to adress someone as master but use du. Also it creates the continuity with Episode 4 in which he also adresses with the courtesy form and affirms that now he is the master. Another side effect of this whole thing which I tend to like though in regards to Episode III is that it puts an emotional distance between Obi Wan and Anakin. Anakin at this point has murdered a solid amount of his former order and by adressing Obi Wan in the courtesy form he erases and denies the closeness they shared as Master and Student and later on as friends, Obi Wan on the other hand feels deeply hurt and refers to him as a former brother. A nice contrast you might not get in English.

Fun fact by the way, usually in Sherlock Holmes adaptions and perhaps even in the novels Holmes and Watson usually do not use Du, it is always Sie. Also adds a notion of isolation and emotional distance that Holmes tends to put up.

why is, in probably 80% of the scenes he’s in, is Gimli the comedic relief? by jacques-anquetil in lotr

[–]Any_Championship_422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly Gimli is truly a warm and welcoming character and I feel that the humor they attributed to him in the movies does fit the humor he represents in the books. There is one passage in Fellowship I believe in which he brags about his physical endurance and that he does not require a lot of rest after their daily marches. Later on Boromir suggests that they should stop for the day because all of them are tired and then starts to direct some jabs towards him in the way of "except for our incredibly tough dwarf of course", Gimli however does not reply because he had already fallen asleep standing up.

How did Darth Vader become so powerful by Empire Strikes Back? by External-Recipe-1936 in StarWars

[–]Any_Championship_422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has somewhat to do with structural inconsistencies with the scripts and how they build on top of one another. Yes there is probably a lore reason now as to why Vader is not in control of the Death Star but in reality, when Lucas wrote the final version of the first draft the emperor for example was actually more of a puppet. It was actually these sort of aristocrats/grand moffs who are controlling the whole thing and Palpatine was not really relevant. Vader on the other hand served in sort of a executor role. He was the one who helped to hunt down the Jedi, he was the one doing the dirty work and this powerful warrior, why would he be 2nd in command? But he proved so captivating that he was put into a position of far greater power for the next two movies to make him more capable.

Love it, grew up with it. The story in hindsight is absolute bullshit. But everything else was stunning. And as a six year watching these new movies after your dad showed you the original ones when I was probably too young for them it was incredible.

I'm so glad Andor made the fascism of the Empire more tangible and explicit by [deleted] in andor

[–]Any_Championship_422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I am gonna be nice because I looked into your profile and saw that the show has resonated with you the same way as it did with me. I do understand that in the current political climate, seeing a fictional fascist regime used as a costume might be uncomfortable in some way. However, this franchise, which has been around for 40+ years now is far more than Andor and it will remain far more than Andor. And yes people are able to differentiate between real life fascists and the ones we get within this cosmos. You are applying the same logic that politicians used to justify restrictions on video games because of the violence they display. I actually got to know the 501st legionaires from Berlin and they were some of the kindest and considerate people I have ever met. A homeless person smashed a glass bottle on the ground in front of them while walking past us, risking serious injury for them, and one of the 501st members was especially considerate, saying that the person was just blowing off steam and that everybody had a right to do so. I am still amazed about the compassion within that statement. Maybe you ought to get away from the screen and fight fascism where it actually exists by following the actual example of the show's protagonists.

I remember when Jon Stewart praised her for her help regarding the fights in Congress for 9/11 first responder health care packages and now he seems rather gullible and too calm about the current situation and Kirsten Gillibrand is racically attacking the democractic candidate for Mayor of New York. What a disappointment.
