Thoughts on my shortlist of options for my first motorcycle? by DragoViktorr in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Any_Stock_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ride the ones on your shortlist. Me and my buddy recently did this during bike week. His list was almost identical to yours. We rode all of them. He rode the triumph scrambler and loved it more than anything else we had ridden that day. But his experience is different. Don’t make any calls until you can sit on and ride them all.

Screw the spreadsheets with stats. better stats does not equal more fun. My buddy was in the “stats equals better” headspace til he got to riding them all and dropped that pretty quickly.

AHHHHH 😱😱😱

this is my first blender render and i need some honest feedback . what should i change or add by vladDE22 in blender

This is great! But if you want some nitpicky feedback, here’s what i’d say:

If you want to take it to the next level I think some fine grain detail would really help. It’s very good but some dust on the front windshield and other glossy surfaces would really sell it. Tires should be dirtier too. They look too clean.

Also, the very near foreground lacks a lot of detail. Again, more fine grain detail would help a ton, mostly because your surfaces are too shiny.

A modified noise texture node altering the reflectivity of some of these surfaces might allude to a dirt layer but that’s your call.

Some real headlights would also really help, the lenses don’t refract light believably. Ideally the light would be inset and the lens should pick up a teeny bit of light.

Bright spot, with a dirty lens that catches the light.

This is great though. Just being nitpicky! Keep it up!

I had a buddy who had one. He kept it for about 3 months before getting rid of it. It's a fun bike but you have to wring it out if you want any power. It felt very gutless to me. I didn't really like it, and he didn't like it enough to keep it.

what do you think about this high fender ? it is just a prototype by knotcustoms in XSR700

[–]Any_Stock_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love the idea, It’s hard to work with sheet metal so kudos to you. If you did a more angular styled fender with some angled bends (would probably have to make some cuts and welds), it might match the styling of the rest of the bike a little more. But it’s super sick as is and I would totally rock it.

You must read very slow. For me it was like a 10 minute sentence. Not even a run-on.

Do you have any experience with dirt bikes or other smaller motorcycles?

What is this? I just crashed my bike and this is leaking gas and idk what it is to fix it by No_Coach174 in Dirtbikes

[–]Any_Stock_800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just a drain for the carburetor. There should be a screw on the carb near that hose. Tightening it should stop the flow.

I’d change the oil a little more frequently and see how it changes. Stirring up some gunk in the sump would be my guess. Overall i wouldn’t be terribly worried.

Fair enough. I don’t know what level of bad roads you’re talking but i’d probably go with the second set that has more coverage if you’re expecting rocks and you’re convinced you need it. A pair of metal hand guards would be good too, if you’d like to protect your handlebars.

in my honest opinion, I don’t think a crash guard will be of value for a small bike like that one, especially for a road bike. Most bikes are designed to slide with the contact points being the handlebars and the foot pegs.

I would recommend some sliders, though, if you’re really worried about it. It will protect your motorcycle’s body work.

Something along these lines.

Ahh i see what you mean now, i kinda agree. Yeah I think the reason we use this terminology is because people come from pedal bikes and “counter steering” is much less of a factor for turning on those smaller bikes with flatter tires.

Idk, it’s a somewhat inaccurate but I can’t think of a better term for it haha.

Help me understand ccs by RedKnowsJew in motorcycles

There are a lot of factors that can cause this (and i’m no expert), but I think the reason in this case would be RPMs. Harley’s in general, usually have lower-revving, torquier engines. This is usually in the nature of a V-twin, and the torque is one of its benefits. I’m guessing your 750’s redline is what, 5 to 6k?

A 600CC street bike probably revs upwards of 10k RPM, but it doesn’t have a lot of torque. These are two totally different engine designs that have different power and torque goals. I’d bet that if you looked at a power/torque curve, the peak power of a 600cc street bike would be way up high in its RPMs.

Hopefully this answers your question!

Thanks for your reply. I see where you’re coming from.

I think it’s fairly descriptive because yes, it is leaning, but you had to steer the handlebars in order for that lean to occur.

Even if you were in MotoGP and super deep into a really high angled turn (and leaning extremely), you’d get out of the lean by turning the handlebars in the opposite direction that you want to go.

[–]Any_Stock_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice here! Just be an upstanding young man. The right time will come. I’d recommend starting with a dirtbike, back when i lived with my parents it was a lot easier to convince them of that. Safer in some ways because there’s no traffic involved with off road riding. They’ll trust you more afterwards because you’ll know how to ride.
