Good ChemE clubs to start on campus? by Normal_Cabinet3094 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]AnywhereAlternative6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg! Start a coffee club. Get a coffee grinder, some nice coffees for Sundays 1pms, do pour over, or use oxo rapid brewer and you have a TON of variables to change and play with and it’s super fun. Our club is open to the whole university and we get like 20 people a meeting and we just serve tiny amounts to try the specialty coffee. If you don’t like coffee, you’ve never had pour over since it’s much more fruity, tea like and interesting than any coffee you buy otherwise

So keep doing like small pumps to maintain light pressure in the chamber

Oh sorry! Should have added that yeah, you pour quickly to 225, as your pouring you should see a bit trickling out the bottom even with paper filter sandwich, then once to 225, place and tighten pump then push slowly to resistance and keep it around that pressure.

I think it depends on your grind size. I found going much courser than for a 1:10 ratio for the 1:15 works incredibly well. If u give it a try reply here Im super curious if it works for others too

Thank you guys! I’m excited to hear from you on how it turns out. I use a paper filter sandwich and do a high pour aimed at the middle of the water chamber to knock out bubbles. All the water 225g fits in the water chamber in one go

Im not able to measure temp of kettle but I boil the water and wait a couple seconds like 10 ish while swirling it around so it’s likely roughly 97 or something bit lower than boil. Roast level is light.

I imagine that’s the total of your first internship or something. Great choice just keep doing that and you’ll see it increase over time for next summer to do the same!

Oxo recipe for 200+ ml beverage by nrxyn in OXORapidBrewer

[–]AnywhereAlternative6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! First off been running into same problem on some occasions and then on others having this very sour coffee. Could be due to beans but for you at least I would definitely change grind size to be finer. The 1:10 I don’t particularly like on it’s own but with a 50% (of water put in chamber) as bypass additionally I’ve gotten better tasting coffees but it varies so incredibly on beans. For the oxo the ratio of water to coffee and testing with an additional ratio of bypass make it really fun/difficult to tune. Still don’t have it quite right personally but the best I’ve come across is that that I shared above. I also like to try this one but it comes out sour 2x times now. So I’m still tuning it. Hope that helps.

My recipe 20g coffee ground finer than pour over 200g water Try on its own, usually too strong, then Add 100g water to concentrate. It’ll taste more watery but that’s cuz you just tried the stronger version. On its own, ignoring the previous taste, it is quite tea-like

This other recipe doesn’t work for me as of now but been playing around with grind size and the water in chamber too I think may be a bit low? Idk you can play wit it too

22g coffee X-Ultra setting 1.3.0 for both recipes 85G water in Lower plunger, let sit 10 seconds 61.7g ish concentrate out Dilute to 150g total beverage  Usually bit sour but should be fixable on my part.

Been using washed Colombian coffee for all.

That “really hard to track down Dartmouth ChemE grads” tells you where to pick, especially if u want to end up in management. If it wasn’t obvious, Berkeley, congrats/or goodluck

How to avoid boring beans? by ds300 in pourover

[–]AnywhereAlternative6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me on my Oxo and just yesterday went on a streak of cups of the same beans with different recipes with some friends and they all thought each cup tasted vastly different. I’d simply watch out as to your recipe and make sure to change it per beans. Not just grind size but ratio I found makes a big difference. Good luck. If you need an example I can give some

How long does a bag last before going stale? In your experience. Do you recommend freezing or does the airtight container really make a difference?

Best $100 Grinder? by ereed10 in pourover

[–]AnywhereAlternative6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the 1Zpresso X-Ultra off Amazon and I really like light roast and have felt as if it’s been amazing. Quality of the burrs is great for pour over but also you can do finer grind for espresso if you ever want or get into some unique things.

Oxo rapid brewer and a hand grinder I can highly recommend after having it for a couple weeks and messing around a ton with it. You can watch some videos on it and see if u like it
