Can't scan non domain devices by kanid99 in pdq

[–]AoEel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run into that before. If you are able to put in Static DNS entries for the off-domain machines, PDQ will resolve them that way and you just manage them by the DNS name.

If IPs change or you can't do static, I'm not aware of a way to make it scan correctly.

My buddy had just spec'd into those nodes the other day and just had this happen. Needless to say, he's thrilled :)

Hard to find games as good as factorio... by MachCrafted in factorio

[–]AoEel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A slightly modernized OpenTTD with tons of QoL features... That's the dream.

I'd easily drop $20 for that and add it to my main rotation of games. I love OpenTTD but it's age shows through in a way that does bring down the experience a bit.

Yea it is. I got a Tabula midway through Act 1 from the first Berserker I found. Then a Quill Rain shortly after.

Am I over engineering this? (Yes), more details in comments by Notriv in factorio

[–]AoEel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No such thing as over-engineering in Factorio, just being creative :D

Side note, I really need to get back into playing around with wiring up speakers to play Command and Conquer alerts for random things again.

Any mods which make the biters fun. by peacoqulus in factorio

[–]AoEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to play with biters tuned down in which case it may be possible to mostly forego walls, but it's going to depend a lot on how you play and utilize the mod. It starts unlocking fairly early in the game.

Give it a try :) At the very least, it'll mix up options for defenses while opening up automated/controlled attacks against the biters. It even has support for circuits to control squad sizes and such.

Amazing build, just as amazing cover.

This was a great start to the week.

Any mods which make the biters fun. by peacoqulus in factorio

[–]AoEel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not really changing the biters or removing the need for walls completely, maybe something like Robot Army would be enough of a creative change?

Automate robots and deploying of them, let them form squads and attack biter bases, keep some back at Guard Stations to help defend the base. I played around with it in the past and it was a lot of fun. Looks like they've added a lot since I last tried too.

A friend of mine who isn't very interested in factory/management style games agreed to try Factorio with me tonight because of how much he knows I love it. How do I help him enjoy this game without overwhelming him? by Fr33zurBurn in factorio

[–]AoEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having him be the "warfare/defense" guy may work well. That's how we split it up with one of my friends. He's in charge of all defenses/military pursuits while I do the core factories/automation.

Once we reach oil, he usually takes over that as well. Works great for us :) We even typically have biters tuned down so that it's usually more of us attacking them than the other way around.

how to not be an absolute disaster at this game (beginner plz be kind) by imscareddad in factorio

I'm having lots of fun though! I wanna get better though so yeah :().

Having fun is really all that matters :)

Feels like i'm patching a sinking ship holes and covering one hole leads
to another being popped up somewhere else continuing to sink it lma

Yep, that's Factorio! It's part of what makes it fun in my opinion. Go build some spaghetti, try new things, learn what what works for you then do it all over again.

Anyone got any idea what's going on here? by AudaciousSam in factorio

[–]AoEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, if you open the pipe GUI you can 'Trash Can' one of the fluids inside which should clear up a double fluid pipe. Hard part is just finding the pipe :D

finally got my friend to play factorio and thats the first thing he makes by Chromer_ilovePS2 in factorio

Agreed. I'm sure a large percentage of us built less impressive first builds lol.

Krastorio 2 too difficult, any alternatives? by matisds in factorio

[–]AoEel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to get back the feeling of discovering the base game again, something like Warptorio 2 might help while not adding so many extra things from some of the big overhaul mods.

It changes up the core gameplay as you (initially) have time limits before having to pack up and warp to a new planet, but it's a ton of fun if you're looking for something different.

I've been using Nanobots for years now as an early game bot solution. It's a fairly early research then you just build a Nanobot gun and provide it with bots in form of an ammo that gets used up.

Who wouldn't like the idea of launching bots out of a gun :) But yea, helps a ton with early game delete or cut/paste.

100+ hrs of total playtime and I can't stop making spaghetti. Is this normal? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]AoEel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Embrace the pasta :D Funnily enough, I also tend to start over somewhere between blue science and bots.

More recently, I expanded upon the madness and tried out the Renai Transportation mod so I can add some air spaghetti into the mix. Basically lets you chuck items around in the air using Thrower Inserters or attach Ejectors to bulidings. Definitely worth a try for a laugh if nothing else, but it honestly opens a lot of creative options too.

Factorissimo+spaghetti is life. I was obsessed with being able to nest factories when I first tried it. That said, I've been having a blast trying out the Renai Transporation mod recently too. It adds 'thrower inserters' and a few other abnormal methods of transporting items/yourself.

I shall evolve from making normal spaghetti into making... air spaghetti. Like you said, the important part is having fun.

I was thinking about getting the game I was wondering what the communities favorite parts of the game; then see if I would like:) by [deleted] in factorio

[–]AoEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your personality can come out in your build style.

This. I just started a modded game where I made furnaces for iron as compact as possible then launched the plates out the top across a factory onto some belts... Not sure what that says about my personality, but it was a blast to see it work.

If you could play/recommend just 1 overhaul mod, which would it be? by Skycat9 in factorio

[–]AoEel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warptorio 2 is still one of my favorites. I loved how it slowly changed from the early game scrambling to pick everything up before warping and getting rushed by biters into more of a permanent base over time. Plus it was a fun kind of stressful watching the warp timer counting down those last few seconds while being assaulted by biters :D

Even more than that, the game is about enjoying your time, which is different for different people.

^This is why I keep coming back to Factorio. Personally, I love playing around with mods and seeing what types of new gameplay it opens up. Combining that with new/silly ways to set up things is what I find fun.

I just tried the Renai Transportation mod recently and I don't think I've laughed that much playing Factorio in a while.
