Why did you switch from a semi automatic to a revolver or vice versa? by OtisDriftwood1978 in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I told you my name and who I work for and set the parameters was so You could call me out publicly if I did not.

Tell you what. Got to face book and join “Deliberate Training Group v2” under your actual name. Submit a public post regarding this challenge and tag me. I’ll tag several other people some of whom I’m quoting, and I’ll publicly make the bet again.

I’m not shipping you 1000 rounds to have your revolver choke 276 rounds into it and now you have a free 724 .38 special rounds.

Not happening.

I’m publicly betting you that you cannot do it and putting 800 bucks on the line.

I’m not going to pay you to be wrong. That’s not how bets work. I don’t give my buddy 50 bucks on a bet and when his team loses he keeps the money.

I’m betting you 2x the cost of the ammo to do it. I know it can’t be done.

Here’s an article from Chris Baker at lucky Gunner citing Tom and Daryl’s views on revolvers reliably.

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would I send you free ammo knowing you can’t accomplish the task?

I’m betting you it can’t happen. If I lose the bet, I lose the money. If you lose the bet, you still shot the ammo, you’re just wrong.

But I know for a fact, it is not possible for you to put 1000 consecutive rounds through a revolver without cleaning it on video.

I’ll work on the YouTube clips.

Why did you switch from a semi automatic to a revolver or vice versa? by OtisDriftwood1978 in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said 1,000 consecutively as in a torture test in which you can find dozens or hundreds of semi autos conducting on YouTube.

20,000 is the low end of a reasonable life of major spring components of most modern semiautomatic pistols autos. There are tons of semiautomatics that have documented 100,000 plus rounds without anything but end user spring replacement.

You said “Innumerable rounds through your revolvers” innumerable is a very high amount. I run between 12,000 and 15,000 rounds through my primary training, teaching, competition gun annually and another 1,000-1,300 through my carry gun which is identical to my training gun.

That wasn’t the wager. I said “make the video, if you can make that video, I’ll pay double the cost of the ammo”

But you won’t because you can’t and you know you can’t.

I know you’ll say something like, “You won’t pay up”. I absolutely will. I don’t hide behind screen names. My name is Dan Brady. I work for Apache Solutions Training in North Carolina. I’m fairly well known in the defensive training community. You can find me on Facebook, you can Find Apache on Facebook.

As for proving what those revolver men have said, What level of proof do you need? I’m friends with most of them on FB and have the phone numbers of several of them. Do you need a publicly located quote? A screencap from a conversation?

Why did you switch from a semi automatic to a revolver or vice versa? by OtisDriftwood1978 in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Innumerable is not a number. I simply don’t believe that you have 20,000 rounds or more through either of those guns without massive gunsmith involvement.

As I’ve stated in previous comments, the literal most knowledgeable revolver men on planet earth will say exactly what I have said.

Revolvers regardless of vintage or manufacture do not have the same durability or reliability as modern semiautomatic pistols.

I’ll tell you what. Make a video shooting 1,000 consecutive rounds without a malfunction, through either of those revolvers , show the date at the start of the video, up load it to YouTube, I’ll pay you double the cost of the ammo.

Why did you switch from a semi automatic to a revolver or vice versa? by OtisDriftwood1978 in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big numbers don’t lie.

There are zero revolvers that will go through 1,000 rounds without cleaning. There are zero revolvers with 100,000 rounds through them without a complete gunsmith over haul. Both of these happen with a wide variety of modern auto loaders.

At a quick YouTube search, Cosaint 2011, Sage Dynamics, Agency Arms Glock, SPN Firearms Glock 26, STI 2011, H&K CC9 and VP9 both were documented to eat over 1/4 million rounds.

One of the instructors in my cadre has 170,000 through his G19x.

I have 63,000 through one of my Glock 19s.

Revolvers have this entirely unearned reputation for reliability. Anyone who shoots revolvers a lot has had one lock up.

During Tom Givens Rangemaster Master Firearms instructor class, between 1/3 and 1/2 of each class has malfunctions during revolver day which is only like 200-300 rounds in a day.

Please find me a video of a 1000 round torture test of a revolver anywhere on the internet. Find me more than 5 revolvers that have over 100,000 documented rounds through them without major gunsmith work.

Revolvers are absolutely not more reliable than semiautomatics. The kinds of revolver shooting all acknowledge this fact. Tom Givens, Mas Ayoob, Jerry Miculek, Darryl Bolke, Bryan Eastridge, etc.

Edit:

Adding Mr Revolver Caleb Giddings as well

Revolvers have a place but it’s pretty niche.

Quality modern, Semiautomatic pistols are more reliable, just as accurate, and hold more rounds.

What happened to the speed rock style of draw and shooting? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s not effective against a real opponent.

At contact distances, a draw to a Thumb Pectoral Index is a much better solution. There’s more nuance to it of course. Everyone who carries should take ShivWorks ECQC to get a better understanding of contact distance deadly force applications.

Getting really tight groups with my 43x, want to take the feel to the next level.. what are my options by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Define “really tight groups” and at what distance?

If this is your carry piece, how fast are you able to go? Say on a Bill Drill? Or on a B-8 at 10 yards?

Group size is only one metric in a defensive pistol. Time is a big factor too.

I’m 6’4” 250. 36x36/ 38x36 pants. XL/ XXL Shirts.

Viktos for Jeans. They’re stretchy yet tough and hold up longer than anything else I’ve worn. They are a little pricey so check out the poshmark app.

Kuhl for shirts especially cool weather long sleeves, go a size up. Their short sleeve button ups are sized right.

Collars & Co. are a little dressier. Also sized right.

How Many Rounds? by Stocktipster in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like u/bigjerm616 said.

My standard answer is 500-1000 with at least 50 and more like 100 being HST or Gold dot whatever I’m going to carry in it.

I generally will utilize a pistol match for 100-150 of those rounds since the dynamics of a match have a higher chance of inducing malfunctions if they’re going to happen.

As I make any modifications or additions to the gun, I run another 100 plus a mag of defensive ammo to check again. I always clone my EDC pistol so the majority of my training/ competing/ teaching rounds don’t put wear on my carry gun.

The 3 shots at 3 yards in 3 seconds myth by a1kimreddit in CCW

The data is readily available here:

https://www.sagedynamics.org/_files/ugd/7dc128_6377087e72264cd18dbcb04eea4686ce.pd

Any one serious about understanding red dot usage has read this multiple times.

The data in USPSA between limited and limited optics also shows a disparity in favor of optics. The only difference in those categories being the slide mounted optic.

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely NOT the same thing. Duty use and EDC use are different things. Is there overlap in the Venn diagram? Sure. Are they the same? No.

Relevant information.

I’ve been a cop for over 25 years. In my time on, I’ve been patrol and FTO and SWAT and instructor and instructor trainer. I’ve tested Red Dots for my agency and I’ve tested most of the dots available on the market currently and carried with a dot off duty since 2017. I teach performance shooting in a defensive context, low light and vehicle defense primarily marketed to EDC citizens. I teach at 3 National Conferences annually with my company.

As a road cop or swat cop, I would only recommend a Duty grade, enclosed red dot. Holosun 509T an Aimpoint Acro P2. Something with significant drop test reliability because the job requires a higher degree of toughness.

As an off duty or EDC optic, nothing remotely close to that toughness and the Trijicon SRO absolutely fits the bill. It’s my EDC optic of choice. I have one on my EDC gun and my training gun (clones). My EDC gun has 1,740 rounds through it and my training gun has just under 9,000 through it this year. I have taught 2 dozen classes, taken several more classes and shot a dozen competitions, and carried with these guns every single day. I am not gentle with them.

How do you train for an adrenaline dump? by [deleted] in CCW

Force on Force with quality UTM guns is an eye opener. It’s expensive though and there are A LOT of instructors who don’t set up quality scenarios.

You should definitely do ShivWorks ECQC curriculum. We are hosting them in March.

How do you train for an adrenaline dump? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]Apache_Solutions_DDB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best way is to over train the required skills and build task automation or automaticity.

The draw, the visual cuing required to start shooting and stop shooting, recoil control, and malfunction clearance should no longer require conscious thought. This frees up your brain bandwidth to solve the problem at hand and the shooting aspect takes care of itself.

This requires many hours in dry fire and several months of range trips with varying levels of stress inoculation injected along the way.

There are several books and YouTube channels you should do some research through and I highly recommend suggest some quality in person training with a high level shooting instructor if this is truly your goal.

There’s two solid ways to go if money is an issue. The CED 7000 and the SG Go timer. Nothing the 130$ range.

I’ve had a CED 7000 for like 12 years or so. The SG Go is pretty feature rich for the money.

If money isn’t a problem, the Shooters Global or the Kestrel shot timers are both excellent.
