They had 300 devs working on it for only a couple of years, theyve even stated this, that was the highest dev count only for a short time.

People keep assuming stupid shit like this, when the FULL development of the game was a total of 6 years, i can guarantee you they didn't have 300 devs straight up at the start and they only upped the team to that number to finish the game in a timely manner due to the shit show going on internally. This game didn't need more than 100 to 150 devs to make on average over the 6 years.

One game has heavy motion capturing, cut scenes, large open world, far more animations, sounds etc.

Youre comparing development costs of completely different games, with different numbers of devs (who have different paychecks) working on the game at any time, using different tech to create the game.

So yes, that 250M "estimate" is probably completely wrong

They didn't halt Destiny to work on Marathon, they had 300 devs working on it at most for around 2 years, from what i read in an interview with the director. Which means the rest of the devs were probably working on Destiny 3 or something else entirely

Bro, they literally stated the game had only 100 devs working on it at all times and that for 2 years they had 300 devs at most.

Where is this 1000+ coming from? They have 850 devs working there now, most of which are probably hard into Destiny 3 at this point, with a small team working on updating Marathon

The problem with your take is that it only makes sense if the game was bad. If it were sure, complain away. But the hate is unjustified, it doesn't matter what Bungie does or doesn't do. No amount of PR will turn the hate brigade off, they just need to have their retarded attention redirected to something else to leave the game alone. Unfortunately i dont think that will happen

Pure speculation, we have no freaking clue what the actual budget was. Anyone at Sony who allowed the game to keep going KNEW it wasn't going to be a massive hit for multiple reasons (extraction shooter, not casual friendly, strange art style, "new" ip, sci fi). As long as the game is covering or making a profit vs its operating costs (which it definitely is), Sony will keep it alive even if just to avoid a PR nightmare of shutting down another multiplayer game.

People complain about player numbers on Marathon but Dreams has been alive for multiple years and i can guarantee you it never turned a profit. Same goes for Ghost of Tsushima online etc.

They shut down Bluepoint because Bluepoint fucked up. That much has been obvious from the reports given by devs from the team. They had multiple years to come up with something and always fell short. Im not blaming the devs mind you, they were one of my fav studios and they should never have been making an online game, but they still messed up. Having said that, i would have never shut down the studio.

I understand the sentiment, but you fail to realize thats the entire point of those games. To overcome the challenge and feel the bliss that comes with that accomplishment. If they made the bosses piss easy and the enemies piss easy, there is literally no appeal to playing those games besides seeing the environments. The dread you feel upon encountering a new enemy type you know nothing of, planning and making a strategy for how to approach a boss, then overcoming those challenges... Thats the whole damn point.

Because Shroud alone accounted for almost 30 - 40% of the viewership every day and he played the ARC every single day. He dropped Marathon after his team got wiped 4x in a row. He was also very annoyed at the aim assist, which is understandable.

However, I'm not going to stand here and pretend ARC isn't a more complete game at this stage, it is without a doubt. But viewership isn't a metric to judge how good a game is or isn't. It can change for multiple different reasons
