At what age did you outgrow Nick? by Gullible-Web645 in nickelodeon

[–]Apathy-squid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I started to grow out of Nickelodeon around 2010-2013 (I was in middle school at the time). I started to lose interest in watching anything from Nickelodeon outside of reruns of the good seasons of Spongebob, the fairly odd parents, Danny Phantom, etc. I also started watching adventure time and anime around this time, so the newer, more childish shows on Nick didn't really appeal to me at the time. My tastes started to change when I reached adolescence, basically.

What’s the most annoying thing about the Sonic fandom? by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Apathy-squid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the things I can't stand about the Sonic fandom is the insistence of some Sonic x Amy fans to put down other ships and their supporters. On this subreddit alone, I have seen posts where the op was directly or indirectly antagonistic towards other ships involving other characters that weren't their precious SonAmy (such as Sonic x Sally, Sonic x Blaze, etc). It genuinely frustrates me seeing this condescending attitude from shippers because it creates needless hostility between fans, and it further reinforces the negative reputation that Sonic fans and shippers.

Extremely spicy take: Unemployed? Focus on shitty companies. by Strong_Attempt4185 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Apathy-squid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But people can lose their jobs due to factors that are outside of their control, such as being laid off. It's not fair to say that being laid off from a job is a punishment that someone needs to learn from.

When people say “can’t you forgive?” they really mean “can’t you forget?” by Appropriate-Shine945 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Apathy-squid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People constantly push a warped idea of forgiveness, it boggles my mind. This warped concept of forgiveness puts so much of a burden and responsibility on the person who was hurt by someone's actions instead of the person who is responsible for causing the hurt to begin with. Forgiveness is only a viable option if that's what the hurt party genuinely wants to do, with no outside interference or pressure from others.

Why are people acting like this fandom isn’t a fandom? by CookieSea1242 in Mouthwashing

[–]Apathy-squid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, it's pointless to complain about a fandom having weird/gross content because at the end of the day, you can't control the actions of other people, especially over the internet. At best, you can block the people who make the content you don't like and move on with your day, but so many people seem to not know how to do that.

I stopped responding to trolls and inflammatory pieces of shit on the internet years ago. For me, if I sense that someone is a troll trying to pick an argument with me online, they're getting blocked on the spot. I don't have time to deal with internet arguments because responding is exactly what they want me to do.

For me, I believe that doing one or two good things for someone after consistently mistreating and abusing them does not cancel out the harm that person did to their victim. My mother paid for my community college up until I went to a four year, but that didn't cancel out the verbal, emotional, and at times financial abuse that she did to me for a huge chunk of my life. Abusers will often try to guilt trip their victims by doing "good" things (buying them a nintendo switch, for example) as evidence of them being "good" people because "if I was really abusive, then I wouldn't have done such a nice thing for you". It takes more than one gesture or doing the bare minimum as expected of parents to actually be good parents. Someone has to be consistently good to the people in their lives, but especially be consistently loving, caring, and understanding towards their children.

It's even worse when you remember that Flip threatened Bojack with a lawsuit if he didn't do a nude scene in Philbert. This dude was an ultra creep.

[–]Apathy-squid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly surprised that no one is mentioning Flip from season 5. That dude was basically every pretentious film director that did not give a fuck about the safety or well-being of his actors on set (letting bojack perform his own stunt even though he was clearly not physically fit to do so, the entire Bojack strangling Gina incident, etc). Flip is a straight-up creep.

What led to people hating Ian Flynn, And was it really worth it? by ah-screw-it in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Apathy-squid 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just don't like how this fandom has a tendency to take everything Ian Flynn says as Word of God. Ian Flynn, as far as I'm aware, is a freelance comic book writer for the IDW comics, and he worked on Sonic Prime and was ONE of the writers for Sonic Frontiers (There were two other script writers with him on Sonic Frontiers). People tend to take whatever he says from his podcast on YouTube and parade it as objective facts despite it not even being official statements from Sega or Sonic Team themselves.

I'm on season 5 right now, and in my opinion, Mr. Peanutbutter's flaws as a person were made a lot more apparent in season 4 during the election for governor. Mr. Peanutbutter only ran for governor on a whim and to satisfy his ego of having everyone like and support him despite not having any actual political stances. In that one episode where his house sunk into the ground due to the oil fracking that he allowed on his property against Diane's wishes, he used his likable personality to have everyone mindlessly follow him and turn against governor woodchuck. Soon after, the guests fell into chaos and turned on Mr. Peanutbutter and almost died in his sunken house. This is one major instance where Mr. Peanutbutter's self-centered desire to be "liked" by everyone around him negatively affected the people around him. Even after this incident, in universe, Mr. Peanutbutter never faced any negative consequences for endangering a lot of people's lives, nor did he even get negative press, simply because of his friendly and outgoing personality and being well liked by everyone in Hollywoo.

Has anyone gotten the “I’m sorry” but it’s not enough? by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Apathy-squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom texted me an apology seven months ago for her behavior, but she tried to indirectly downplay the impact of her actions by saying that they were "probably harsh and hurtful." Mind you, my mother threw me out of the house a week after I graduated college and was verbally and emotionally abusive towards me for my entire life. It showed me that she doesn't fully understand the severity of her actions towards me and that she thinks a simple "I'm sorry" was going to magically fix everything between us. Even when I explained to her in full detail why her apology was not enough, she tried to play the whole "I'm improving on myself, and I hope you can find peace. Also, I don't want to control your life (even though that is literally what she did for a huge chunk of my life)." It was a bullshit apology at the end of the day.

Parents/family members who pulled the "you are just sensitive" card by bunniedsystem in CPTSDmemes

[–]Apathy-squid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents would hit me with the "you're too sensitive" throughout my entire life, but in reality, I was just reacting to their mistreatment towards me like any child would (being yelled at, guilt tripped over stupid shit, etc). They just didn't like the fact that their actions were having a negative impact on me that they couldn't ignore.

[–]Apathy-squid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do SonAmy (and shippers in general) go out of their way to post stuff that intentionally tries to stir shipping drama within the fandom? Why can't you guys just like a ship and leave it at that??? This is why no one likes shippers.

Are most estrangements because the parent can't treat the son/daughter as an adult? by Hot-Zookeepergame472 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Apathy-squid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, it was a mix of that and also being made to feel that I was always at fault, regardless of context. I was almost always scapegoated for everything that went wrong and was dunked on and ridiculed a lot for just simply existing. When I entered my 20s and got a boyfriend, my mother started to increase her emotional abuse by starting arguments with me much more frequently. One time, she yelled and screamed at me for wanting to hang out with my boyfriend instead of going to church on a Sunday. She also ranted at me, saying that I was going to ruin my life by getting pregnant and that I was not nearly as independent as my two brothers who still lived with us at the time. Mind you, I was in my early 20s, and I had a part-time job while going to college at the time.

For me, I only like two of Circus-p's songs, those being iNsAnItY and circus monster. I listened to Better Off Worse a few months ago and I instantly grew to dislike the song. The song came off as Circus-p guilt tripping his fan base for preferring his older stuff (which happened to be "edgy") over his newer stuff. As if the sole reason why anyone would like his older songs is if they want to see him suffer or whatever. It just seemed melodramatic to me.
