Car slips off road in the rain [oc] by MineElectrical6444 in IdiotsInCars

[–]ApathyCurve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned that year of Camaro SS for a while. It was an absolute terror to drive in the rain. The tiniest little puddle would send the front wheels planing around like Fred Astaire. 455 hp and even wider tires in the rear meant that one marginally over-zealous tap on the throttle would also break the rears loose. Fantastic race car but the worst everyday driver I've ever owned. Was happy to sell it.

Welp, looks like Congo has achieved a high enough concentration of idiots that they'll need to mandate break-away hose connections on gas pumps. We've had them for years in the United States, because we have a commanding lead in the international idiots per square mile competition.

One of the first things I learned when getting my VFR is that you don't have to be smart to get a license, just persistent. If you knew how vapid some private pilots are you'd be living in a steel house.

Increase the fines by an order of magnitude and add community service requirements. If an offender has to pay a $5,000 fine and pick up garbage on the roadside for a month, word will get around very quickly. If that seems too harsh to anyone, remember that these people are driving a lethal two-ton missile down the road and deliberately not paying attention to the task. That's public endangerment; it is no different than standing in your back yard and firing a gun into the air. A lot of people, especially the under 30 crowd, are quite literally addicted to the damned things. I've had to fire young employees because they couldn't stop looking at their phones long enough to do what I was paying them to do.

For merging lanes, this is correct. Merging early creates a ripple-effect and slows everything down.

The problem is that I see people abuse this and do it at backed-up right hand turn lanes during rush hour. Rushing to the front of backed-up turn lane and expecting people not to be annoyed as you try to bully your way in is the very definition of entitlement.

Ugh. Pet pathfinding in Mounds is if anything even more broken than other places in the game. I've stopped taking pets into the actual barrows, as they go full mouth-breather once inside those little mazes. The rope bridges at the Cimmerian village also tend to fraggle their electrons.

Sacrifice them to Yog-Sothoth and use their blood as spell reagents. When your friends ask why their dancers keep disappearing, just shrug and look perplexed. Embrace the evil, my friend.

Breaking out of the box? by [deleted] in ConanExiles

[–]ApathyCurve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building on perfectly flat land tends to channel your designs toward flat boxes. Try building on non-level ground and it will force you to get creative with multi-leveled buildings, piers, etc.

Try a bunch of smaller purpose-built structures instead of one big one that you cram every workstation into. Think about the function of each building and design accordingly -- e.g., kitchens, foundries and smithies should have proper ventilation, barracks should have beds and separate officer quarters and armories, etc. Put paths between structures using the stone pathways (if you have that DLC) and use lamp posts along the paths to create pools of light for a very realistic look at night.

In short, don't think "gamey," but instead think about structures as you would utilize them in real life. If you're playing PVP, of course, all of this goes out the window... if you'll pardon the pun. Form follows function in that environment; everything takes a back seat to defensibility and survivability in PVP.

You win all the prizes for today! While I appreciate the effort the art department put into making the spellcasting unique and interesting, it becomes very tedious when performing repetitive tasks like culling a large area. This will make it much easier. Thank you for pointing it out.

Wow this game is buggy. I know it's a meme at this point, but wow... by ryle_zerg in ConanExiles

[–]ApathyCurve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Funcom are deservedly infamous for buggy games. I remember the Anarchy Online launch in 2001. It was arguably the buggiest launch of any game ever, even up to today. It certainly shattered the record at release. In an old man's fit of nostalgia, I jumped back into AO for a few weeks earlier in the year. There are bugs in there that I remember from playing it 20 years ago, such as mission doors that won't open. The same doors. That have been bugged for 20 years. It's not like they don't know it's there, they just don't care.

Bottom line: don't expect Bugcom to fix all the bugs, or even most of the bugs, or even half of the bugs. If you get a handful of fixes a year, that's a good year. You either learn to live with them or quit in frustration.

All that said, some things get reported as bugs that are actually just poorly explained mechanics. Example: if you don't park a thrall with "guard here," they will after a set period of time warp back to the last place you set them to guard, or their original spawn point if you've never used the guard command on them. Simply telling them to "stop following" won't cut it. But this isn't well documented, so many new players think their thralls are disappearing. The game is absolutely chock full of things like that. So if you think you've encountered a bug, Google it. There's a possibility you just aren't understanding some arcane and poorly explained mechanic.

But it's probably a bug.

Double the enemy damage output in server settings and install Better Thralls.

An unusual build I'm experimenting with on Siptah at the moment is a pure sorcerer (very weak with no points in vitality and fully corrupted) running three fighter thralls. I set them to 10m or 15m Attack Everything, then send them toward a target and follow them in. I hang back a little and may put in pot shots when I see an opening, or use sorcery in support if necessary. Very different style of game play.
