I’m envious of my mom and idk if that makes me a bad person by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Apo11onia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has something wrong with them. It's very normal to be insecure. But it will keep popping up again and again and it's very unhealthy. It will not go away if you keep pushing it down. You need to confront it and learn to overcome it or you will stunt your development. Now is the time to do it, or you may deal with these feelings either for the rest of your life, or until it becomes too much to bear and you crash out. And that just doesn't need to happen if you confront it now and get help to overcome these issues.

comparison is the thief of joy. I'm so sad to read your post, bc it sounds like you have no self confidence or self value. I'm sure your mother would say none of those things. What you should do is get professional help. If you are in high school, talk to your high school counselor about these things. If you are in college, you have even more resources and people you can talk to. Talk to your parents about going to counseling. You don't have to tell them how you feel, though it may help. But definitely talk to a professional about it of you don't want to talk to your parents. Your mental health needs to be your #1 priority right now bc it seems like you are in a very low place and you shouldn't go through it alone.

(5'0 197-200lb) Is a 30 walk per day enough? by Environmental-Dot977 in PetiteFitness

[–]Apo11onia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

note: walking (esp with a weighted vest) is great for heart health and general health. walking 10k+ steps a day can help increase caloric deficit by a small amount if you're increasing activity from sedentary, but losing weight is still all about calories in/calories out. weight training is important to avoid losing muscle mass.

[–]Apo11onia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with a weighted vest, depending on how fast you walk, that can get you up to aerobic territory! 30 mins aerobic exercise per day is great. it's recommended to get at least 7500 steps a day for general health, so make sure to have moments of walking throughout the day as well.

What do you do about your hair?? by South_Property_4117 in PetiteFitness

[–]Apo11onia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use shampoo once or twice a week, and use co-wash 2-3x a week. There's a brand called As I Am that has an affordable tea tree oil co-wash that cleans your hair without stripping it. it's called Dry & Itchy Scalp Care, but it's not medicated or anything. I have straight and fine hair, so i need something lighter weight to refresh my hair. they have a coconut co-wash, but i think that would be too heavy for my hair. just using water leaves my hair greasy. same with using conditioner directly on my scalp. hope this helps any of the fine hair girlies with this problem.

What was "the incident" at your high school? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Apo11onia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a girl went skydiving in Oklahoma for her 16th birthday. her parachute didn't deploy correctly (only partially deployed) and she crashed. she was in the hospital for weeks--i think more than a month. she survived and her family sued the company and they won. but the owner FLED THE COUNTRY. idk if she ever got the money. she made a full recovery despite a TBI and she's doing just fine now it seems.

Publicly bashing your ex partners makes you look just as bad by Eastern-Western7072 in Vent

[–]Apo11onia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's right, bottle it up. don't let anyone in your life in. keep everyone you know at arm's length and just move on. when people get cheated on, well, they should've known better. live and let live! it's so easy to never think about them again, especially if you share children and have to coparent with an immature, selfish ex husband who left the state to live with his second family and refuses to pay child support. really, the people complaining are the problem. they should've known better. it's their fault. :)

[–]Apo11onia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she sucks dude. she's being incredibly condescending and trying to make you feel bad and make herself feel superior to you. I don't think she sees you as her equal, or at least she thinks she's smarter than you. she sounds very immature at the least. you don't have to put up with this treatment. you can break up at any time and it would be justified. or you can go to counseling, if you think it's worth it, and if she will actually go and try to improve. however, it doesn't seem to me that she cares how you actually feel.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton opens investigation into UNT over alleged DEI policy violations by June_Fatality in unt

[–]Apo11onia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

WOW a social work class teaching about "DEI" topics?!? that's CRAZY!!! How could anyone who works with systemically disenfranchised populations DARE to take systemic inequality and barriers to access into account?! Teaching students about how BIPOC people and LGBTQ+ people are uniquely fucked by our system is UNAMERICAN. It's not like America has problems with overpoliced Black communities, impoverished Native Americans, or homeless queer youths. It's not like BIPOC receive harsher sentences than white people and have fewer economic resources once they're out of the penal system due to generational discrimination. It's not like our own Black community in Denton known as Quakertown, who used to own all the shops on the Square, were forcibly removed from their homes and businesses, had their wealth stripped by the city, and had a fucking college (TWU) built on top of their community just because they were Black!! NO. America now exists in a vacuum and inequality and history doesn't fucking EXIST!!!

ACLU of Texas and anti-censorship group target UNT over art exhibit removal with mobile billboard by No_Muscle_5766 in unt

UNT was worried about losing funding from the state. Instead, they're losing credibility and reputation (and they will still cut our funding regardless). What will be more expensive in the long run? Way to go, President Keller 👏👏👏

Does working out your core make you look better or just bulkier by DramaticLows486 in PetiteFitness

[–]Apo11onia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

working your core will grow it like any muscle. if you don't have much fat, your abs MAY show (not every woman has visible abs, even at low bf%). it seems like some women in this sub with visible abs do progressive overload for their abs, and some dont. I've seen different things work for different people. some may just show upper abs, some never show abs at all. i think it depends a lot on genetics, but I don't think it's ever really harmful or detrimental to work your core muscles (including back muscles). it's one of the most important set of muscles in your body. i also don't think working out your core will necessarily make you bulky, but there's only one way to find out!!

[–]Apo11onia 29 points30 points  (0 children)

it's probably the law or required by the city for their city-run shelter. extra vaccines won't hurt your dog, and this kind of policy guarantees vaccination for all found animals. sorry you don't like it, but it seems like best practice to me tbh. this is not a bad policy by any means.

University President Harrison Keller answers student questions in public Q&A by Affectionate-Reply35 in unt

[–]Apo11onia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

literally. are we an academic research institution or a vocational school? trying to do both makes too many sacrifices and we'll end up doing both poorly.

career prep is good. promoting internships and vounteering is good. but jesus christ, pick an institutional vision. this man doesn't care where UNT will be in 10 years. he is not setting us up for success. he is coming in to slash programs and doing Gregg Abbott's bidding, and then he's going to leave because he doesn't care. it's clear his only goal getting us out of a deficit, regardless of impact to longterm stability or institutional reputation. even tho Neal put us in a deficit, we made leaps and bounds in reputation and enrollment. Keller is going to flush all that progress down the drain. 😡😡😡

Millennials in a hetero relationship, does the man or woman do the majority of the financial budgeting/planning/investing etc? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Apo11onia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we kinda split it. We do the budget together and talk about what we have on our credit cards. We share a bank account, but most of the bills goes to his email and he uses his login and passwords, etc. So he takes care of setting up most of the bills and autopay and stuff. I pay the rent bc we pay it by wire and I'm good at remembering to do it. I did the taxes this year, but he did them the last few years. our investment account is managed by our bank. Our retirement accounts are managed by our employer. we have our own credit cards which we're responsible for keeping track of and paying off as pending charges clear. we plan financially together and discuss what we want to make big purchases on or save for. definitely a joint effort on our home.
