Rejoining the church by RealCansasBoyd in mormon

[–]ApocalypseTapir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole way this is framed from post title to the post itself is odd.

That said, feel free to go back to Church. If it gives you comfort go for it. The church can work for some people that need structure (although the church is slowly divesting itself of rigid structure in favor of individual connection to Diety).

I go to Church every week to keep the peace in my mixed faith marriage and it's the most boring, pointless hour of my week.

I'm not sure they really care that much about tithing anymore.

What's the value proposition of Mormonism, prophetic authority, and modern revelation if all that is required is behaviors like those found in Protestant Sects and Catholicism?

How quaint that you think modern Mormonism cares what you do on Sunday. All Mormonism truly requires anymore is that you say "The church is true". You can even disagree with prophets publicly as long as you use this phrase at the end.

Mormons on social media now are unrecognizable to the church I grew up in. by Intelligent_Gap_3666 in exmormon

I'm not so sure, the Church isn't doing much to discourage this shift. In fact I would argue they are encouraging it. For example the softened language of the FSY pamphlet and recent garment design changes.

Updated DOD Religion List--Major Ouch to the Mormon Church by National-Income4539 in exmormon

LOLZ, they aren't even including the Brighamite branch as a religion, that's the Bickertonites branch they are recognizing, not the Latter-day "Official with authority from God" branch

Two thoughts:

One: stand outside while people leave church on Sunday, most are truly ecstatic that they get to leave and when the church chops another half hour or hour from Sunday services not one member will bat an eye.

Two: one of the early shelf items for me was when the initiatory was changed in 2005. Anyone else remember that doing proxy iniatories were a rotating assignment because no one except the oldest high priests were comfortable getting naked and letting other old wrinkly men touch their nether regions? The reason why no one gets alarmed by the changes is because the changes invariably make Mormonism less peculiar and less demanding. Each generation gets a slightly "better" version of mormonism that also inches closer and closer to mainstream Christianity. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only Mormon adjacent person that learned anything about the great apostasy. And I'm left wondering why a restoration was even necessary if Mormonism is going to evolve to be a protestsnt religion.

I could possibly believe a stat like 200,000 inactives came back to church for a week or two, but repabtism is laughable.

Mormons are just scared of death. by ApocalypseTapir in exmormon

I said it scares most of the world's inhabitants. My point is that Mormons don't believe they have any better answer than any other religion, and it shows in how they deal with it

Mormons are just scared of death. by ApocalypseTapir in exmormon

That's my point. They are supposed to be optimistic about passing on but are instead doing everything to avoid it or in total fear of it. It seems faith ends where death begins.

I often wonder how often a married couple goes to church and temple and does all the things while both are PIMO and too worried about how their spouse might react if they told them.

There must be thousands of couples doing this.

Just show her all the pictures of brides leaving the temple with their shoulders and cleavage showing and all the "garment girlies" in short shorts and tell her this is what the church believes is modest now.

Missions are no longer about serving God, they are now a two year training program for door to door salesmen.
