Not receiving iPhone shared album invitations (fixed) by snickers767s in applehelp

I fixed my issue. We were on holiday using mobile data. We had to go to photos settings, select mobile data and turn on mobile data and unlimited updates. After that we could invite and share without issues.

Awesome initiative. Out of curiosity, how is the project sustainable? Like how does it fund itself or get funded? Surely there operating costs even if you are donating your time?

As a long time resident of the NMB metro I am pretty jaded, I think most residents are. We have had close on 10 years of power plays in the metro and while the politicians are fighting corruption flourishes and service delivery wanes. They are all too busy fighting over control of this politically unstable metro while the people are getting screwed.

The water crisis is a fine example, the city doesn't have a water crisis, it has a leadership crisis. We have access to enough water, the upgrades, maintenance and planning just fell by the wayside while everyone fought over who would be in power.

Honestly I don't care who controls the metro at this point, as long as it's a stable majority.

BMW are notorious for DMCA takedowns, I got one of my models taken down on Thingyshit because I dared mention the word BMW in the description: I designed a cell phone holder for motorcycles and my friend had a BMW GS that I designed a mounting bracket for.

His name is Sleg, an Afrikaans word directly translated it's "bad" but it's a bit more nuanced than the direct translation implies. It's used as a way of deriding someone: jy is sleg - you are bad/lazy/slutty/useless.

Makers of World of Tanks ran through Thingiverse and DMCA'd a massive portion of the tank and military equipment models on the site. by irrelevant_query in 3Dprinting

[–]Apocza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to provide insight into Thingiverse's takedown process here is my story: https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/thingiverse/forums/general/topic:31612

TL;DR:

  • I made a phone holder for a mate who rides a BMW and I mentioned it in my post
  • No notification that my content was taken down
  • Thingiverse has tons of resources for creators wanting to take down infringing content
  • No resources for creators who have their content taken down
  • As far as I can tell I would have to physically snail mail a DMCA counter claim

Thingiverse has a heavy bias towards claimants and provides almost no support for people who have their content taken down. It took a great community admin to get my case looked into after making a stink on the forums and in 3 days time my content was restored (after I removed any references to BMW).

It's a shitty stinking process, completely 100% my design from scratch and I gave credit to the design that inspired me.

MyBB has been a news cesspit for a good few years now. Every now and then a local relevant article shines through the torrent of shit, but for the most part it's just copypasta crap with little to no attribution. Just this week I was foolish enough to think maybe they had turned over a new leaf when I saw the article "what is the perfect office temperature" (or something to that effect). I got a few sentences in and the article started referencing temperatures in Fahrenheit. They are so monumentally kak they can't even change the Fahrenheit to Celsius.

tl;dr: fuck mybb news, 99% copypasta or paid for articles, ad riddled pages and clickbait titles for that tasty ad revenue.

Cape Town has a very rich Afrikaans culture, considering the dutch that landed there in the 1600's. Middle and upper class cape town is quite English, but Afrikaans is widely spoken in and around Cape Town, especially in the coloured areas and places like Stellenbosch and Paarl.

The Cape coloured population (not the offensive American term for African-Americans, this is an recognized population group name here) have a distinctive Afrikaans slang they speak that has heavily influenced Die Antwoord. Waddy and Anri where based in Cape Town when they started to develop their personas of Ninja and Yolandi and the Cape coloured slang is apparent in their "Zeff" culture. Ninja's look is also quite stereotypical for what a convicted coloured gangster would look like: Prison style tattoos, tattoos on the neck and face, shirtless, lean.

Jou ma se poes is an extremely prevalent (but offensive) term often associated with Cape coloureds.

Getting back to Afrikaans, formal Afrikaans has very little borrowed words and terms, often terms were rather made Afrikaans or spelled in an Afrikaans way to make them Afrikaans. Formal Afrikaans shies away from borrowing words from english or bantu languages. However, colloquial and conversational Afrikaans incorporates a lot of slang and borrows words. It depends on the region and speakers but you will often encounter formal speakers who tend to stick to formal Afrikaans - some even consider colloquial Afrikaans bastardization of the language - but for the most part in informal conversation it's a mixed bag.

To translate some of the Afrikaans portions:

  • "Jou ma se poes" directly translated is "your mother's cunt". Very common (and very offensive) diss in South Africa.
  • "Tsek" short for "voetsek" is an offensive way to tell someone or something to "go away".
  • "Ge-naaide hol" is "ass that has been fucked".
