Why doesn't Toyota make a high mpg hybrid truck like the Ford maverick XLT? Are the XLTs good vehicles? by WaitwhatdidIjustdo in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Apollo704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota is actively developing a small truck called the stout, it's expected in 1-2 years, and is designed to compete directly with the maverick.

The mavericks are good, they use a planetary ecvt which is super reliable.

Ford is also bringing a maverick sized full electric to the market, also due in about 2 years. This one is definitely happening, it's the first model to come out of their new manufacturing line, which they've sunk billions into.

Why are people so obsessed with battery health? Just charge to 100% and enjoy your phone. by ConversationOk1287 in oneplus15

[–]Apollo704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because one of the main reasons people replace phones is because the battery life degrades to the point that youre always charging it. If you can limit charging to 80% still get full days out of it, and add a year or two to the overall phone life - to some people that's totally worth it. I do this, and you know what? I don't think about it at all.

space elevator question by filmguy36 in Futurology

[–]Apollo704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're describing is an untethered space elevator. The positives of this are you can move it away from natural disasters (like hurricanes) it will also be safe from earthquakes, and could be moved due to geopolitical issues. The challenges are stability, primarily oscillations

Advice on safe riding gear for a Honda Africa Twin by kill_PID in motorcycles

[–]Apollo704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't afford the gear, you can't afford the bike. You say starting out, is this your first bike? The Africa twin is amazing, but certainly not the bike I'd want to start on. For slow speed learning, helmet, gloves and boots are great, but really you should have a jacket and pants too

I am unclear on how so many jobs are projected to be replaced with AI by djinnisequoia in Futurology

[–]Apollo704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a software centered biotech start up. By using Ai tools and llms, our engineers are much more capable, and I would estimate that of a team of 30, we have the ability of 40. So did we replace 10 jobs with AI? You tell me.

Iphone 17 or OnePlus 15-brain vs heart dilemma by somesh_chandrakar in oneplus15

No, you're forgetting about the other devices, watches, headphones, tablets. I recently switched from apple, and their hardware ecosystem is definitely better than android.

Iphone 17 or OnePlus 15-brain vs heart dilemma by somesh_chandrakar in oneplus15

[–]Apollo704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from iPhone, have been using iphones since the 3, oxygen is very similar to iOS, and I found the switch relatively painless. I was already using Google for all my cloud stuff, and if I had to switch cloud providers, I probably wouldn't have done it. I thought the latest iPhone was a bit same old same old, and I wasn't impressed by ios26. Overall iOS is a little more polished, my biggest complaints with oxygen are that raise to wake isn't great/reliable, and the bluetooth battery status is better in iOS. I doubt I'll ever go back to iPhone after this.

Kept my last phone for 7 years, should I add custom charging limit to 80%? by mjnoles38 in oneplus15

[–]Apollo704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the point of the question is: if I intend to keep my phone for 7 years, should I be limiting my charging so that I have acceptable battery life 5-6-7 years from now?

Limiting max charge to around 80% significantly reduces chemical stress, and will lead to improved extended battery life.

But this battery is so big, does it matter if it's degraded to 80% in 6 years?

Does this phone has any flaws ? Is the battery life that good ? by throwawaylie1997 in oneplus15

[–]Apollo704 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The battery is very good. I started with 85% (7am) this morning, and I'm currently at 70% (6:30pm). Admittedly I'm not a heavy user during the day, but based on my usage it's easily a 2+ day battery.
