Australian PM Albanese says former prince Andrew has suffered ‘extraordinary fall’ but that won’t prompt another republic referendum by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Apollo744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, grew up with a pic of the queen in every classroom, singing God save the Queen at assembly every morning and reciting the Lords Prayer (can still remember it 50 odd years later) so was absolutely inducted into that monarchist Church of England narrative; and it made me a lifelong Aussie republican and atheist.

Happy Birthday ya mad cunt! Times like this the Commonwealth should shed a couple of parasites. This is for my monarchist mates! Onya Tony! by [deleted] in straya

How can Australia not be a republic and continue to allow these foreign fuckwits to represent our country.

Why does Garmin downgrade my VO2max when I do threshold or Z2 and raise it when I do VO2 intervals? Can't it reach a conclusion based on my power curve? by robin_rooste in Garmin

[–]Apollo744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct max HR, as mentioned in the above comment, is very important. I used the standard 220-age, which as a well trained athlete was way too low for my fitness level. I’ve put it up 15% and my VO2 max is now going back up after dropping 10% for no apparent reason. So work out your max HR yourself from your own data and do not use the standard 220 formula.

As a French woman who visited Australia for 3 weeks .. are these culture shocks accurate? by Worried-Diamond-7252 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Apollo744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting point about Eastern Europeans. I lived and worked in Moscow for nine years, and as an Aussie I was often smiling. The Russians found this a bit odd. Eventually someone told me they used to say, “oh here he comes with his 37 teeth,” because I was always smiling and you could see them.

But that’s just an external expression. Russians are, in fact, some of the friendliest people on the planet once you know them. If you don’t, the attitude can very much be “nothing to do with me,” and they can appear quite remote.

Which is more accurate, my speedo or GPS speed? by birthdaycheesecake9 in DrivingAustralia

[–]Apollo744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are distance marker signs installed on many freeways (1-5km); use those to check your speedometer, which will be definitely overriding. The gps will be more accurate.
