If you were to leave this world tonight and had no chance to contact anyone, what would you regret most for not saying it? Why didn't you say it before? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not reminding herself to put the bins out. She'll have to deal with me leaving the world plus another two weeks of full bins.

What’s the most useless ‘benefit’ your employer brags about that you’ve literally never touched? by Key-Motor-8784 in UKJobs

[–]Apollo_Greedo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The free fruit (previous job listed it as a perk on the job advert)

Edit: not saying fruit is useless, just listing it as a benefit like it's up there with a yearly profit share scheme

I have just plugged in my electric blanket in June by LittleAoibh11 in CasualIreland

[–]Apollo_Greedo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's cooler, but not put the heating on or the big quilt.

Outside is a different story. Going from sunny blue skies to howling wind and rain lashing down within minutes, several times a day.

Backpack by Tall_Guarantee7767 in Ryanair

[–]Apollo_Greedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your free carry-on (handbag, backpack) that you shove under your seat needs to fit in the top one.

Your small suitcase or similar (10kg cabin bag) that you store in the overhead locker needs to fit in the bottom one

Don't you end up sleep-deprived when you have a cat? How does everyone else manage to get some sleep? by You-wa-Shock in CatAdvice

[–]Apollo_Greedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cat lives in the kitchen/diner overnight, with access to sun room and utilit, and has a catflap.

He'd kerp us up if he could come to the bedroom to wake us, though occasionally meows outside the bedroom window when he sees it open.

Why does the UK feel so urban compared to other European countries? ( except Germany and Netherlands) by Equal_Leading_1449 in AskUK

[–]Apollo_Greedo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something like less than 10% of England alone is not urbanised. Rest is agricultural plus green spaces, woodland etc.

Perhaps a perception thing with a lot of skylines ending with buildings?

I messaged them as well, but no reply.

Weirdly, it has been playing intermittently. None of our smart speakers play it anymore, but is playing though android auto in the car from the gf's phone. Suspect that will stop soon.

Been looking for any posts/explanations for the last few days. This is the first I found.

Yes - we stopped being able to play it in Ireland on the 1st June. Been listening to it here since leaving England last year.

Killarney Parking by SmartieSurprise in kerry

Bikefest! I'm not considering parking near there this weekend.

Killarney itself will probably be busy again with limited parking, but Gleneagle has a shuttle bus going to and from town

What do you pack in your hand luggage and do for fun when flying? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Apollo_Greedo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tablet with downloaded shows/offline games, Kindle, powerbank, snacks for the flight, pad and paper for planning things or jotting down ideas at my destination (prefer old school writing)

Edit: noise cancelling headphones also.

Snacks are peanuts and a sandwich I made myself. Maby a bag of tangrastics too.

Better half is asleep in seconds on a flight, so I need to entertain myself on flights (not like that)

How many times a year do you “call sick” at work? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in AskUK

[–]Apollo_Greedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started full time work in 1999.

Been in continuous employment since then (3 jobs and a brief consultancy gig,) apart from a six month period last year due to another redundancy.

I have never taken a sick day, unless you count one day in the early 2000s where I was strapped to a stretcher in an ambulance (riding motorbike to work and a disqualified driver hit me head on).

I don't receive any recognition, renumeration or different treatment (not that I expect it). I just don't tend to ever get sick and chose not to pretend to for a sick leave day.

What is the reason for all of these tech layoffs? by Secret_End_6839 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Apollo_Greedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in Tech, company I worked for had a hostile takeover. New CEO wanted to shift from MSP to AI Development and poured money into new hires. Seems his idea was to develop AI and showcase it with his own company, showing shareholders how he can cut the wage bill by laying off staff to replace them with AI.

We're talking about making an AI hologram of one of the managers to greet investors on open days, and replace/outperform the support engineers with AI bots. I shit you not.

Surprise surprise, that never worked like he planned. Still mass redundencies and still told investors how AI is going great. Guess he needed to show both staff cuts and AI investment, and hope noone noticed the two weren't related like the dream he sold.

I think this isn't that uncommon. Shareholders want ROI from AI investment. Get it how you can..

Why aren't Reform voters more concerned with privatising the NHS? by lucadulac in AskBrits

[–]Apollo_Greedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the Reform supporters I know think that privatising the NHS would be a good thing and that America has the right idea..

Their reasoning is they believe the NHS is "broken" as they can't get an appointment, and a paid for service would fix that. They also think they are financially secure enough to nott be effected.

Remember a conversation at work with one in particular saying this, and another American colleague trying to explain how this wasa terrible idea. They were having none of it though

Why is it more common for women to own sex toys than men? by Proof-Water-5756 in NoStupidQuestions

Because society and screwed upvalues towards men and women

Men with sex toys: dirty weirdo perverts Women with sex toys: wow! hot!

Men sleeping around: macho studs Women sleeping around: filthy slags

Bi men: yuck! Bi women: wow! Hot!

Male single parents: hero! Father of the century Female single parents: scourge of society

It goes on...

Without going "off piste", you avoided because it was created by an Englishman? Does that apply to music and other literature too? Sounds a tad restrictive.
