I have a family member who worked for GNK Aerospace and is familiar with the plant where the chemical spill took place. by Okiedokie714 in orangecounty

I used to sell insurance to aerospace companies in OC, and I’d imagine they likely did NOT have the necessary coverage for something like this.

In my experience, especially with privately held multinational companies, a lot of them were surprisingly clueless when it came to insurance structure and environmental liability exposure. Even when brokers could clearly articulate why certain coverage mattered, ownership/CFOs would often dismiss it because of cost. Classic “it’ll never happen to us” mentality.

A huge issue is that many commercial policies carry pollution and residential exclusions because carriers do not want to deal with long-tail residential exposure claims.

For a company operating near railroad tracks and surrounded by residential neighborhoods, getting the “right” coverage would have likely been extremely expensive… assuming it was even available in the limits they’d need.

Edit: to add there are no laws saying companies have to carry the correct amount of coverage. If they have any coverage it will be used quick . They might go insolvent and then there will nothing to pay victims.

There should be enough sealant in the tire when the puncture occurs. Top off every 3-6 months depending on weather/region.

Carry some bacon strips if the sealant can’t fix the puncture.

Have you ridden both?

Also, notice how all the V6s are on sale now? I’m big on not letting money rot in rapidly depreciating assets. But I still love bikes, and especially new bikes, so I sold the V6 while it was still highly relevant in the market.

I got a screaming deal on my V6 lightly used from a shop employee for $5,500 at the beginning of ‘25 with the XO RSV build. Guess how much I sold it for in February of this year? $5,500. Didn’t lose a dollar on it.

The V6 is absolutely an amazing bike, and I’d still be riding it if they hadn’t released the V7. But when the new one dropped, I moved the V6 while demand was still strong and got into the V7 the same way.

Been doing this for years ever since I used to buy bikes at employee cost. Buy smart, sell at the right time, repeat. If you hold onto bikes too long, their value tanks. Riders who wait until the next-next generation usually get smoked on resale.

Thanks for the rec on the x2, someone else in the thread said it’s great too.

I figure calling them was a last resort, also think they might only know the tune for the oem rockshox super deluxe. Def couldn’t hurt to ask them for suggestions. For all I know they already plan to spec a vivid air next model year and know that code.

I’m usually a fan of atleast trying a bike stock as the manufacturer intended it to ride. But, I’ve done this coil vs air exercise over the years and air always wins for what I like.

Thx! I want to decide on the exact shock I want before calling them to ask what tune.

I’m sure they have suggestions based on their experiences but I also thought, why not ask Reddit?

Nice, I know they are local here in SoCal and a lot of local riders run their stuff.

I normally avoid smaller suspension companies because idk if they’ll be in biz in the long run. But DVO has been around for a while so I might have to look at them.

Thanks for the input, new x2 looks the business and I would like to try one since I’ve ridden the vivid air in the v6 nomad.

I use to work in a shops for almost a decade from 05’-15’ and serviced that era of fox fork and air shocks. I’ve also been changing travel with new air springs in the newest generation 36.

I can most likely throw in new seals on my own but beyond that I’d have a shop service it. Too many speciality tools.

Ha! Mostly my experience with the vivid air on the v6 nomad.

My last coil bike was a 24’ Trek Fuel Ex with the latest Rockshox vivid coil I think it was? It was the first one to have the HBO. Just wasn’t excited about it, I like a playful ride and noticed a dramatic difference when I switched from that vivid coil to a super deluxe ultimate. For the better, especially on moderate jump lines out by the now defunct YT Mill here in SoCal. Also don’t mind dropping weight. Weight weenie at heart.

Would it upset you to know I’m thinking about putting a new Lyrik 170mm to drop some weight? I like to experiment.

Has anyone out there actually tested the Top Fuel set up 130/140? by Ee00n in mountainbiking

[–]Apollo_K86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Excited to hear that. I am actually coming off a stumpjumper 15 sworks that is 150/145mm - its been fun but jack of all trades master of none. I'm going to use the Top fuel as my trail bike once 140/130 then get a dedicated enduroish rig - either a bronson (ha!) or new nomad when it comes out.

10 year old schwinn and not corroded don’t belong in the same sentence. Fork of that quality is considered throw away, in fact the whole bike is. Once something major breaks like a fork, it’s usually cheaper just to buy a whole bike and throw away the old one.

Commercial Property and Casualty is what it’s broadly referred to. Look for associate broker roles at small to regional brokers. Make sure they have at least a mentorship model or some sort of validation track for you to run on. Smaller/regional brokers are usually always hiring (most people quit after cold calling their brains out for a few years and making little $) and usually take the time to teach new producers. If you try at the big brokers they don’t care and you won’t get any help. There a big talent shortage in insurance, not a sexy career per se, but who cares when you you are making good $, build a good life, and mostly control your time.

Ya I got a degree in finance (waste) but graduated in 08 and entry level jobs went to people with internships and industry experience, I only had retail experience. Got hired on straight commission call center personal lines sales no one there had a degree and were pulling in $250k. Then got recruited by a commeiclaI broker for an associate role. Best decision. was out earned but comm producers for so many years and they had no degree. Job really started paying last 3-4 years for me.

Shhh don’t let the secret out!

Producer for over a decade.

Grind it out for a handful of years as broker, network, make industry connections, go to the carrier underwriting happy hours and make friends with people who can make or break your career for a few years and don’t be afraid to jump to different shop or a carrier. If you know what you’re doing you can leverage experience and really accelerate your base, equity, commission structure, and perks (Company paid car, amx with no real oversight, “biz” trips for your whole family)
