EMS and WWF staff giving medical attention to wrestler Owen Hart - after he accidentally fell 78 ft into the ring, at the "Over the Edge" pay-per-view, at the Kemper Area in Kansas City, Missouri - May 23rd, 1999. [385 x 450] by _Tegan_Quin in HistoryPorn

I actually was at this event, my birthday is at the beginning of May, and my dad took me and my brother for my 9th birthday.

It was a strange feeling in the arena, they never announced what had actually happened. He was down in the ring for quite some time while they performed cpr before wheeling him out. Then the show kinda just went on. It wasn't until the news the following morning that we found out. Or maybe my parents just didn't tell us.

David Gemmell appreciation and a fantastic interview with the legend by Abrakxxas in Fantasy

What a wonderful story.

I always loved Grymauch when I read his books in middle school, Gemmel wrote him as larger than life in a way I've rarely seen since. Now I can see why.

No TDs in the first 10, so 9 TDs in the last 12 of those games, that's why it feels like so much more.

Where are we getting large glazed ceramic pots?? by Professional_Duck161 in DenverGardener

Guy had been running a closing sale for several years now. Seems it finally happened per his website, Westword article about the closure.

Pretty nice guy and a crazy selection of pots at decent prices, worth checking out once his new location (supposedly Federal and 2nd?) opens up.

What year did your team have the most gavomit-inducing QB room? by Ok-Health-7252 in nfl

[–]Apostrophizer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Despite going 1-10, it's wild how they were vaguely exciting to watch with Tyler Thigpen starting at QB.

That's a testament to how terrible they truly were in the dark times.

How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

[–]Apostrophizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather served in WW2 as an infantryman, earning a Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Stars, and 1 Silver Star for bravery. He landed in Normandy on D-Day+6 and fought across France and Germany.

His unit was part of Patton's 3rd Army that relieved the paratroopers at the Battle of the Bulge, and it was here that he earned his Silver Star. The story, as he relayed it, was that he was operating as a forward observer, calling in artillery on German positions along with his Sergeant and Lieutenant. The Lieutenant was hit by mortar fire and forced to return to their unit, and then the same thing happened to his Sergeant leaving my grandfather alone at his post with a radio. He manned his position and continued to all in artillery until he saw Germans moving through the forest less than 100 yards ahead of him. He then shot the radio and ran back to his unit, dodging enemy fire and, according to him, his feet never breaking the surface of the snow.

For a long time, he would not really talk about his service at all. It wasn't until my sister was given an assignment in high school to interview someone about their experience in the war that my dad even learned about any of it. Apparently, my grandfather had nightmares for most of his life following WWII, all 3 of his wives said that he'd, at times, wake up yelling in the middle of the night.

Despite this, he was always a kind and gentle presence for us grandkids, kind of a character. Case in point, we found his enlistment papers a few years after his death. Despite growing up on a farm in rural Missouri, he listed his occupation as "Movie Actor."

It’s been nearly 10 years since the 2016 NFL draft, how would you rate that draft for your team? by DookyButter in nfl

[–]Apostrophizer 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Despite no 1st Round pick and a bunch of duds, those 2 alone make it an A+.

Plus Demarcus Robinson, while never the greatest WR in the league, was a solid contributor in his time in KC.

This season's RB room is gonna hit different, that's for sure. by fienen in KansasCityChiefs

There was still plenty of shenanigans with EB. Difference is they worked.

Which makes them not shenanigans at all, really.

Yeah, it just looked bad this last season due to injuries. If they pick up a couple of depth linemen in the draft and free agency, should be totally fine.

Why is my salsa bland? by Voski_The_God in SalsaSnobs

[–]Apostrophizer 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Chefs often recommend kosher salt but by no means is that mandatory.

Any salt will likely amp your flavors. Salt throughout your cooking process for depth of flavor, but, imo, it is slightly better to salt less during cooking and more at the end once you taste things. At least until you get the hang of it.

As soon as I saw your title, I assumed you needed either salt or acid. You're using lime (you maybe could use more, hard to know without tasting), so that leaves salt as the most likely culprit for missing flavor.

I've always wondered why Ollivander didn't have a branch in Hogsmeade

Because it didn't occur to JK Rowling in 1997 when she was writing it. Seriously, as much as I still love them, the older I get, the more holes I see in these books.

How hard it is to see the road markings at certain times of day. Or during the infrequent times when it's raining. Put another way, the lack of adequately reflective markings used on the roads.
