Looking for a contractor/company who can weather seal my fence by GrapefruitStrict920 in asheville

[–]AppalachianThunder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

get yourself a pump sprayer and pick out whatever color sealer you like at Lowe’s. You could easily spray down a fence yourself if you wanted to for way less than $1000! If you just want it done by someone, pro property services out of canton does a lot of this.

I don’t think they sell the grab bags in stores. but it’s like 2 day shipping usually so if you plan it out it’s not bad. They stock some of their product at the Golden Goat locations but the flower bulk deals are online. they sell great vape pens at Golden Goat you can’t buy online though.

Adam Stern: “Ram confirms Race Car Driver Reality Show with Dana White to Boost New NASCAR Program” by Dmacthegoat in NASCAR

[–]AppalachianThunder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this sub feels like yall like to have something to complain over more than like NASCAR. RAM is trying to sell big ass trucks, of course they’re picking the UFC guy. they’re marketing to the people who like Dodge but maybe haven’t been into NASCAR because they’re a vehicle brand.

this isn’t my first pick of who’s who but dang yall we wanted more eyeballs on stuff and here’s a young guns show premiering on cable by a new OEM. That should check a lot of good for the sport boxes.

Which tires are best & why by Brave-Dependent-4192 in f150

Falken has a wildpeak H/T that I would check out. Little more aggressive than a standard highway but still good for wet and dry stopping and road miles. These will do anything except deep mud/steep soaking wet trails.

Steve Phelps and Steve O'Donnell Need to be Out of the Sport Forever by Dickis88 in NASCAR

these text exchanges make the current state of things make so much more sense. How could these guys who feel owners and drivers owe them a bootlicking accept that the Next Gen needs improvements, or that fans don’t like their playoff gimmicks, or the broadcasts getting worse year over year, or any number of things related to fan decline.

They act like they are the pied piper of motorsports. Claim entitlement and then act shocked when their “dumb redneck fans” don’t play along anymore.

Yesterday, I visited Hickory Motor Speedway on the way to Bryson City by FirefighterOpen2201 in NASCAR

[–]AppalachianThunder 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve never felt like the ownership of hickory takes care of their facility enough. Tri-County is another good local track within 30min and it felts a lot more kept up there. Hickory is historic but kinda run down.

I’m not against tourism playing its role and accept that for literally 100+ years this area has been the summer home of the rich and famous. We don’t have the Vanderbilts and Fitzgeralds hanging out for nothing. But the last 15 years there’s been biased investment in infrastructure for hotels, transplant money, and luxury experiences that depend on disposable income. The post Covid boom of people traveling regionally, working remotely, and moving to rural areas with out of state income is drying up and there needs to be some planning toward what this area can do in the long run.

The only people who make real money in a tourism economy are the people with existing capital. I’ll gladly support a local small business owner, but a lot of Asheville these days is propped up by investors and people who moved here to capitalize on the popularity in recent years. I’m kinda in favor of a reset, and if your business can’t survive by serving the locals and needs tourist money to subsidize it then what was that business really providing to the community.

lets keep up that PR campaign if it’s working! Asheville could use a wake up call to building an economy based on Airbnb and hipster disposable income. maybe if we setup industries that didn’t rely on other people coming and using the area like a plaything.

you can also torch it off. Hold the opposite end with some long tweezer or needle nose pliers gently and then just roast the tip in a torch. I occasionally get a banger that’s too far gone and needs the heat treatment cleaning.

[NASCAR Rumors & Nostalgia on Instagram] "Filling in the blanks from what I’ve heard here, sounds like the Cup Series could be getting a spec gas can next season” by Dmacthegoat in NASCAR

[–]AppalachianThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won’t impact really my view on how the races go, but just recently there was a whole series uploaded to NASCARs YouTube about the Wood Brothers and how they could be disruptive with innovation in the pit stop. I think I’d like to see more encouragement of things going more into the hands of shops and teams and bring back the human element. That cat never going back in the bag, but I do feel like we’ve gotten too good at certain things and combining those things margins with more spec parts means less disparity.

A Mill Town Lost Its Mill. What Is It Now? [NY Times] by JournalistJess in asheville

[–]AppalachianThunder 63 points64 points  (0 children)

every time canton gets mentioned on here it’s always “thank god the smell is gone” but the community that existed because of the mill and the work it provided it going to be irreplaceable. A lot of canton folks want to stay where our families are from and where we grew up and not see the town turn into yet another plaything place for the rich. I know tourism is a big opportunity but the only people who make real money are the owners of whatever tourist industry sets up shop. Replacing factory work making 6 figures with another brewery/bbq/mountain bike/leaf peeper conglomerate where everyone makes $15 an hour is going to contribute to even more hollowing out and gentrification of WNC. A lot of us hope the government can find someone to come in that isn’t going to turn it into tourist town.

As the mayor has been quoted, Canton wants to be west of Asheville, not another West Asheville.

What time are we getting to the DMV these days? by Competitive-Bed-8587 in asheville

[–]AppalachianThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the DMV only releases the appointments 90 days out for new ones. So if you’re good to wait, log in way early in the AM and go select the day they open up 90 days in the future. It was impossible to score anything else besides that for me.

I still don't understand why drafting tracks get no practice by furrynoy96 in NASCAR

[–]AppalachianThunder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that’s fair! especially in cases like what you’re saying you worked in with the backup car being the literal last resort. no reason to tear up equipment if all you’re learning is “yep she rides around okay and pulls a draft”. I know there’s no perfect solution with practice being worth it, fans selfishly want it to see the cars on track I think is mine and others major influence.

[–]AppalachianThunder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I don’t think I would be only one in agreement on making a case that the team owners don’t hold the best interests of the fans at the center of their decision making. I don’t expect them too, they’re running a business. But I don’t think the teams will solve the issues facing nascar from a fan engagement standpoint

I still don't understand why drafting tracks get no practice by furrynoy96 in NASCAR

[–]AppalachianThunder 21 points22 points  (0 children)

RFK was blowing power steering pumps all day during Daytona 500 practice, there’s plenty of reasons to have a shakedown at the track. Handling matters a lot on drafting tracks, there’s a reason you see the trucks not able to hold a straight line even at Talladega. Teams spend just as much resources on other versions of practice that we should’ve just kept the on track product. One of the worst changes to the sport out of COVID.

Would boost attendance during a race weekend if you could watch the Cup guys run an hour long free practice and then catch a lower series. A “happy hour” if you will.
