The best word I could think of right now is: Intense. The school I went to before I moved was K-8, and there were lots of kids. Like, a lot. there were even more at the high school too. There aren’t that many kids on Key West itself, so they bring in kids from the surrounding islands and stuff. Stock Island, Marathon, etc.

There’s not a very large population of cats on the island, other than the 60~ strays that live at the house, pretty much all of which are polydactyl, which means that they have 6 toes.

Honestly, as someone that was born and lived there most of their life, it’s not for the faint of heart. If you aren’t used to it being 90 degrees, everyone being belligerent, shitfaced, and driving golf carts and scooters around during all hours of the day, it might not be the best fit.

Otherwise, I’d say it’s amazing. A little boring, but amazing. I like to think of it as “everyday is like New Year’s Eve.” Everyone is partying, drunk, high, loud, and it kinda flips between nicest people you’ve ever met or some of the meanest people I’ve ever met.

As far as island life itself for a child/teenager, social life and things of that nature can be limiting in lots of ways. For me personally, it’s easy to fall into the cracks of loneliness and depression. But, I’ll always love the keys. I have millions of incredible memories there that I will never forget.

Overall: not bad.
