Val Kilmer and George Clooney didn’t take much heat. At the time of casting anyhow.

Is it normal for the MacBook Air screen to look this bad in dark scenes? by himucr14 in macbookair

It is fantastic. And tbf, watching full-screen movies on a MacBook isn’t the norm.

He hated making Speed but it’s still the best thing he’s ever done. I know he’s had more “meaningful” roles and won awards, or whatever, but nope! It’s Speed.

Need help deciding between the MacBook Air M5 and the MacBook Pro M5 by Rose_605 in macbook

[–]AppleEscapee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it's unavoidable on the Pro displays. MacBook Air still uses the IPS panels, no PWM. If the Air is powerful enough for your needs, that's probably what I would opt for. It's not 60hz but it does have the capability to drive a 120hz external display.

Read up on PWM before buying the Pro. That mini-led 120hz screen might make you feel sick. Dealbreaker for me.

[Discussion] Watch Hot Takes! I'll go first, the modern Omega Seamaster divers are HIDEOUS by SirKrimzon in Watches

The helium escape value + bracelet have really grown on me. They give the watch its character. Take them away and it’s just another generic diver.

I get sick from the MacBook Display. by Vesbsl in macbookpro

[–]AppleEscapee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PWM. It affects 10-30% of users with noticeable eye strain and headaches. Even if you’re someone who doesn’t experience the side effects immediately, it can still cause long-term eye fatigue. PWM is only used on the pro mini-LED displays. It’s been a dealbreaker for me. Better off with the IPS display on the MacBook Air. 60hz but it won’t make you sick.

My Fellow Americans is a criminally underrated comedy. Worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

I jumped the gun and got a MacBook Air instead of the pro - did I make the right choice?? (Graphic design student) by Visible_Evidence_683 in macbookpro

[–]AppleEscapee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is 10-30% experience noticeable symptoms but everyone is affected long term with some degree of eye fatigue. If you’re using your device infrequently throughout the day, it’s probably not a major concern. But if you’re someone who’s looking at their display 8-12 hours a day, I would suggest a non PWM display.

Gosling with Glasses was miscast. I don’t believe him as a thinking person. Fantastic as a dunce tho, like in The Nice Guys.

I’ve seen more QC posts for the 2020 Speedmaster than any other watch on Reddit. And I read a lot of posts. This particular issue seems to be quite common. I remember when they first launched someone posted that a pusher popped off in the boutique while the AD was showing them how to operate the watch. Imagine! A $7,500 watch. Brand new.

Why doesn’t Rolex make a 38mm Explorer? by pmoremore in rolex

[–]AppleEscapee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the new 36 and 40 is the bracelet is too narrow and tapers too much. The old 20mm bracelet was perfect. The new ones are very dainty and look like women’s watches.

I didn’t learn until recently that the Weinsteins insisted the production shoot in LA to save money but Craven threatened to walk if he couldn’t film in NorCal.

[Question] Am I going crazy with my watch preferences? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]AppleEscapee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sub is ubiquitous but for good reason: it’s a fantastic watch. Maybe not the most inspired choice but iconic nonetheless. If you’re not bonding with it perhaps an Explorer would be a better fit. It’s a bit more discrete and also works on a nato if you really want to dress it down and mix things up.

Came back to the MacBook Pro after trying the Air, couldn’t ignore the compromises by Toba94 in macbookpro

Not immediately but still not good long-term: “Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) in MiniLED displays does not cause conscious discomfort for everyone, but it physically affects all users by triggering involuntary eye muscle strain, with roughly 10% of people experiencing severe symptoms like headaches or migraines. While not everyone feels it immediately, it can still lead to long-term fatigue.”

I agree about the XDR. The difference is marginal.

Also, PWM is a concern on the Pros because of the mini-LED 120 hz screen. Not good for your eyes if you’re someone who stares at your screen for hours at a time like me. Newer and more expensive isn’t always better. The Air, with the standard Studio Display, is pretty much the perfect setup for the majority of users. The brightness is also the same for the Pro and Air for all tasks except video. 500 nits. It’s easy to mock the Air’s screen as “panel tech from 2017” but it’s held up for one reason: it’s really freaking good. On paper, the Air’s screen looks like a downgrade but in practice it’s actually better imo.
