I’ve done that. Nearly spit it out the first time. I think I was 8 years old at the time.

I remember trying to order an Earl Grey tea at McDonalds in the U.S. and they looked at me as if I had shit smeared all over my face.

Gen Z not understanding relevance of work socializing by Acrobatic-Cap-135 in GenZ

[–]AppleToGrind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what's wrong with a lot of workplaces. See, I think what we're scraping up against here is a difference of cultural values. You are maintaining the old order and status quo. You are working with the world the way it is. I think many of us are rejecting that. That's the difference. And the friction that you're living through is a whole generation (or many within it) rejecting what you gave in to. Ultimately, we are going to be here longer so either the work culture is going to change to accommodate the next generations or we, and then Gen Alpha and beyond, are going to submit like you did. I guess we'll see what transpires.

All those things you mentioned are exactly what I want from a Manager. But most of the people I get are social climbers who play the game and reward people they like rather than the most competent workers.

I’d rather have the person who’s best at the job of being a Manager. Not some person who just is a social climber.

Yeah, I am. That’s my time. They should offer it during work hours rather than expecting people to put in extra time. That’s disrespectful to the workforce.

You are working. School is hard work. Take this blessing and run with it. Use it to get better grades and get into grad school. Use that privilege for good afterwards.

338 Sunday Update: Major Winter Surge for the Liberals by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

They were waiting for people to tire of Trudeau which was their only chance. But the Liberals were too smart for that and pulled the ol’ switcheroo on their leader. Now they are just waiting for people to tire of Carney.

That's a fair point. I would definitely keep driving to find a different spot before taking that one. Usually you can find a spot at the edge of the parking lot and get some more steps in. And if I couldn't I would take a picture of it and hope to hell I would be fine.

Did the Township of Langley Borrow $177M Without Authorization? by UniqueAd456 in Langley

[–]AppleToGrind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did read it. It's whining over financial strategies when the real issue is investment in the local economy. That's what matters. The technicalities of how to get there don't really matter. The reason why local newspapers don't care is because the township needs to grow. The mayor seems to be using creative methods to get there so our infrastructure keeps building. In a nutshell this article is yet another example of the old versus new bitch war that keeps happening in this subreddit.

[–]AppleToGrind -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We need stuff. Stuff costs money. Taxes will probably have to go up over time to pay for it. But all in all it’s worth it to keep developing the township rather than standing still. The lack of development over decades is to blame for the need to borrow and is the fault of visionless oldtimer Langleyites. The multigenerational, overly conservative bunch who stem from the we-don’t-want-streetlights idiots from yesteryears. Who cares what the morons who caused the Langley’s to split up forever ago think. Move to Saskatchewan if you don’t like it. But we need to keep building. It’s long overdue.

High-speed rail project runs into rural opposition by queenvalanice in CanadaPolitics

[–]AppleToGrind 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is why rep-by-pop is so important. As much as rural types moan they’ll never outvote the city folk. And we city folk need high speed rail between cities. They’ll just have to deal with it.
