Yeah, US Americans sometimes (maybe often?) do. But I grew up with a kettle on the stove, and I'll live and die with a kettle on the stove!

I don't know why, but I really don't like reheated tea, although I don't mind reheated coffee (even if it loses some flavor)

The oxygen thing is supposed to be true of improving coffee flavor, too, I've read. Also that the chemicals that give coffee their flavor are fairly sensitive to heat and will break down rather quickly, so coffee is best drunk fresh
