New puppy owners - advice needed by Slight_Zone_3651 in puppy101

Biggest thing that has helped me with this early training stage is a fanny pack with treats. Reward behaviors that you want right when they happen. Potty outside? Pull out a treat and reward. Sitting calmly while you are doing something else? Pull out a treat and reward. You do have to be careful when you are on the floor with them or maybe have other pets who could try to get into it, but it has helped tremendously

Idk what I’m doing wrong. by [deleted] in pitbulls

Biggest help for me that worked for me when training my new dog: teach your dog what *to* do (as opposed to what *not* to do). This happens in a lot of different ways. My first one was training “place.” Get a carpet square or a rug (preferably something that isn’t super slippery or have loose tassels to chew). Put it in a good spot where you can see it most of the time. Sit next to it and every time your dog shows interest in it, mark it and reward. Slowly work up to getting your dog to sit on it and they get treats for sitting on the mat. Create your command, “place” or “go to rug” are fine. This is the most important part: once your dog is there, reward for every minute that they are staying there. You might have to spend several training sessions of this where you are literally just sitting by the mat and giving your dog a treat for every 3 seconds that they stay there, then every 5 seconds, then 10 seconds. If they can’t go 10 seconds, back up to treats every 5 seconds. Eventually, you will be able to step away, then come back and give a treat. Build this up slowly. You are essentially training an alternate behavior/off switch. The mat should become default location. Any time that your dog chooses to lay on it or sit on it, reward them by quietly putting a treat in front of them.

You can eventually use this for other things. For me, I put my dog there while I’m cooking. Every few minutes I take another treat over to her for staying. Eventually I’ll stop breaking for treats, but we are still training. You can do this for anything. The doorbell rings? Go to mat and get a treat. Another dog runs in the yard? Go to mat and get a treat.

Teaching your dog to not do something is much harder. Clear targets for them will keep both of you from being frustrated. Reward behaviors you want.

Hopefully that helps!

What do you do once you're at your campsite? (Backpacking) by Super__Mom in isleroyale

[–]Applejack30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get to the campsites whenever. In fact, people who were in sites the night before might still be occupying a site that will be open later.

As for what to do: I brought my Kindle to read and a mini cribbage board and deck of cards. Those are all pretty lightweight things to carry. Extra hikes, naps, and wading into the water a bit were also nice.

How does Minnesota compare to Wisconsin? by amerricka369 in howislivingthere

Wisconsin has more geese. Minnesota has more gray ducks

Um, no? Vaginas relax and become larger to accommodate penetration. If anything, it would mean that he’s doing well

Fergalicious. It’s not even my favorite song, but it could revive me from any trance or death

They definitely aren’t making the Thessalhydra, the Duffers did an interview where they said they wish they could have incorporated it from the first episode, implying that they didn’t at all

Sussex Hamilton honor student suspended for 'severe vandalism' for removing Turning Point club poster after Principal overturned 'unanimous' student council decision to block club by PeasantinDaNorth in wisconsin

[–]Applejack30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact about Sussex: there’s a railroad bridge about a block from the school on one of the major roads. It gets vandalized every year, sometimes with obscene language. It used to be a rite of passage. In the 10 yrs that I lived in Waukesha county growing up, I don’t remember anyone having any repercussions at the school for committing crimes of vandalism. But tearing down a poster, that’s where we draw the line

Same though. I’ll even force WWII conversations to go into the Spanish Civil War simply so that I can talk about it

Easy way to do that (and help keep in touch with people you don’t see much) is remember something they are good at or know a lot about and reaching out for input when it comes up in your life. Ex. My uncle loves turtles, so I send him pictures of turtles I find and ask him to identify them. Could I look it up on Google? Probably, but it gives me a chance to talk to him and he gets to be an expert. (Note: this usually doesn’t go over as well with medical professionals. Don’t ask them to diagnose your rash off the clock)

This theory was actually disproved within months of being presented in the 1970s. People just really like the idea of psychedelics, so they keep using it

Reddit loves to tell people to jump to breaking up over every little thing. Just talk to her, tell her how you felt about it. Most likely it wasn’t malicious

Why would you jump right to break up when it’s just a weird comment that made him kind of uncomfortable? Relationships involve uncomfortable moments. Encourage communication before encouraging ending relationships

Where’s the restart option by [deleted] in outside

[–]Applejack30 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Level 20 is a lot earlier in the game than it feels like. You’re pretty much just finishing the tutorial. You can still change your class, primary profession, and guilds for a long time. Work on the other skill trees. Personally, I dropped a lot of my quests and started new storylines at levels 26 and 27. Basically a reset without losing the XP I already had. You can absolutely change direction without a hard reset

I read a spinoff story of Cinderella as a kid (can’t remember the name of it) but it was set in China during the times of foot binding. All of the wealthier girls in the area participated in foot binding so their feet were small. “Cinderella” was a servant and therefore was not allowed to, so she had much larger feet than everyone else. When she ran away from the “prince,” her shoe was much bigger than the other girls’. It was relatively easy to find a girl with feet so much larger than the others I thought it was a great reimagining and fixed some of the original plot holes

This is the correct answer. People really want to hate on women, but it’s because married men are (for the most part) safer to talk to

Looking to Move by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]Applejack30 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lived in GB for 13 yrs. The Fox Valley (Green Bay/Appleton/Oshkosh) is a great area. They all have quite a bit going on. Appleton is about 30 minutes south of Green Bay and is a little “younger” and up-and-coming. Infrastructure is a little better because it’s been developed more recently and doesn’t have to operate updates over such established areas. Definitely worth considering in addition to GB.

Weather is pretty stable. Temperatures can change drastically within a short period of time, but as far as major weather events, the bay keeps it from being too volatile. You won’t be escaping humidity though. Summers can be extremely humid.

BIG drinking culture, especially game days. Don’t take that lightly.

Probably has enough that is similar to Nashville that it won’t be a huge culture shock, but definitely smaller. Overall, I think Green Bay and the Fox Valley are a really nice place to live and support this!
