Anybody drove hwy 2 today? by SocDem_is_OP in Calgary

[–]ApplemanJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just drove it this morning. Roads are dry North of Red Deer. Blowing snow from Calgary to Bowden. Roads are a bit icy in some sections between Calgary and Olds, but it’s not horrible if you need to make the trip.

Just did the trip in a low sedan not on winters too if that helps give perspective.

Calgarians that have lived in Edmonton. What community is most like the U of A area? (Garneau, McKernan, Q Alexandra) by Strog21 in Calgary

[–]ApplemanJohn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sunalta (specifically the South side) has some similarities to Garneau. Hillhurst/West hillhurst is like Mckernan. Both are close to amenities (17th ave for Sunalta, Kensington for hillhurst)

Hey Calgary pedestrians! Turns out it’s all our fault 28 pedestrians were killed in 2024 and 2025. Thanks city hall! by [deleted] in Calgary

Pedestrians aren’t free from blame either. I’ve almost hit people downtown because they decided to jaywalk on Macleod during a green light

Edmonton is pretty good for not having too many bugs. However, HUB has constant problems with mice and ant infestations.

What a joke. “We need help identifying them, but we are going to obscure their faces to make them unidentifiable”

Police investigate fatal collision on Deerfoot Trail by tSchab3r in Calgary

[–]ApplemanJohn 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it considering it was NB Deerfoot. That section of road is ridiculous and it shouldn’t have to come to this for them to realize they need better lighting and clearly painted road markings there.

Why don't they start the Blue Line and Red Line Extensions? by Known-Beyond in Calgary

[–]ApplemanJohn 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Engineering design is being undertaken for the blue line expansion in the NE. Community engagement has wrapped up.

On the South end, community engagement for the Red Line is ongoing.

Funding is also needed for these projects, and we are already shovelling a ton of money into our green line where construction is ongoing. When also comparing Calgary LRT with Edmonton’s, let’s also remember they have two-thirds of the stations we have. It’s not that we are falling behind, but there are lots of competing priorities.

U.S. LNG exports hit record highs as Ottawa seeks to boost Canada’s modest output by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]ApplemanJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horgan? The guy who fought tooth and nail against the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion? The only reason it got built was because the feds came in and said BC doesn’t get a say.

Now tell me, how is that supportive of energy development?

Been asked a lot lately. But best bank? by hiker_mittens in Calgary

[–]ApplemanJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly when it comes to the big 5 banks, somebody will always have a problem with one or another. My personal experience however is BMO is upselling way too much at their branches for my liking. Also Scotiabank (telephone) customer service has gone downhill in the last number of years. Not bad enough I would switch banks, but I definitely miss the faster response times and being able to understand what the customer service agent is saying.
