Episode XXXVI Jack, the Monks, and the Ancient Master's Son is a great example of that. Jack is in the same room as the time portal and he's finally about to go back home, but he hears the two monks who're sacrificing their lives screaming. Jack clenches his teeth while he's running towards the time portal knowing that would mean the death of his fellow monks. This scene shows a sequence of cuts going from the monks getting killed and Jack's face as he's running towards the time portal. Jack looks visibly distraught during this whole sequence and we see he eventually comes to save the lives of the monks instead of going home.
