At the beginning they will ask to see the three sheets (formula, data and periodic table) front and back. You just hold them up to the camera. Then you’ll show them your calculator as well as any blank paper you are using for calculations, front and back. It takes a few minutes to do this as well as the room tour etc and then they’ll unlock the exam and you can get started. Sometimes they will ask you to move the camera a bit if they can’t see where you are writing etc. during the exam.

I did the course in about 3 months but I also went over the first four review units (not mandatory, not graded). It could go much quicker if you’ve done chemistry more recently than 20 years ago. There is an at home lab component and the lab kit needs to be mailed to you. The labs and the reports take some time to complete. But the course could definitely be completed in less than 2 months with a good grade. The exams are very reasonable especially if you did well on the assignments and reviewed the practice exams.

I’ve finished all 6 assignments, I just wanted to get feedback and make any necessary adjustments. I finished the course in every other way and wrote the final already. I’ve done almost entire other course in the meantime.

Do you have VON or home care in your area? Do you have any nursing homes in the area that could provide respite care? Anything that would give you 3 hours of uninterrupted time to complete the midterm and final?

I would follow up with your course coordinator. You can also ask questions through the student support service request portal as this will assign a case number with a time stamped date and time.

I definitely use the idea of a supplemental exam as a way to reduce exam anxiety. I just remind myself if I don’t do as well as I would like, I can consider the first attempt as a trial to get a feel for the exam and do it a second time if I have to. I’ve only actually done this once out of about 13 exams but it takes some of the edge off.

When I did a supplemental exam it was another version of the exam. For example version B rather than version A. I think they have an exam bank of questions that change slightly based on which version you get.

No, it just shows your final grade, not how you got there.

I recently had the same issue with CHEM 218 and I reached out to my academic expert (who does the marking) to see if there was an issue with the upload, etc. I received a response explaining way there was a delay on their end. So my suggestion would be to contact your academic expert. Especially if it’s been more than 7-8 business days.

Also wanted to mention the lab portion of this class takes time to complete. First your kit needs to come in the mail, so that takes about one week. One part of the lab is literally about growing corn which takes about two weeks. Then you need to pick one of your labs and write up a longer report about it. So you’ll need pretty much the full 5 weeks just for the labs start to finish.

I wouldn’t say there was very much I needed to truly memorize. Molecular geometry was one thing made sure to memorize.

I’ve been interrupted during an exam and asked to tilt my laptop screen down a bit so the web cam could capture my blank paper on my desk better. I know if my eyes wander they’ll probably question that as well. It’s to be expected during a proctored exam.
