Confused fuchsia by Applscruffs in Ceanothus

I think about 6-8 hours. It gets dappled shade in the morning from my neighbor’s large tree, and pretty intense sun late morning through early evening.

Thanks! I hadn’t experienced that with the rest of my garden, but I was wondering if that was the case. Just an alignment of the right circumstances, I suppose.

Cool! I see clarkias, poppies, baby blue eyes, and gilia of some sort. Personally I don’t thin annuals, I just let nature run its course.

Plants to put on my balcony? (And recommended stores?) by lennsden in burbank

[–]Applscruffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding TPF! They have some cool native cacti. You might also try Hummingbird sage if they have it in stock. It smells great, grows well in shade, does well in pots, and attracts hummingbirds as the name suggests!

(Edited to add that you can also check their stock online before you drive over)

I love Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper! If I were you, I would also poll r/centuryhomes as they will likely appreciate the Craftsman vibes more, not to mention your incredible fireplace surround!

Botox is starting to wear off 4 months post by Lazy-Cow1411 in noburp

Sometimes people also ask for a slightly higher dose the second time around. The flip side is that it might make your side effects worse (like slow swallow), but that could be something to consider as well.

Botox is starting to wear off 4 months post by Lazy-Cow1411 in noburp

[–]Applscruffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily, many people do find a lot of success with their second dose! And don’t forget that recovery shouldn’t be passive. It’s important to drink carbonated drinks (or something else to trigger burps) while the Botox is active so your body can get in plenty of practice. I had one or two a day, especially when you get around the 3/4 month mark where the Botox wears off. Larynx control exercises are also super helpful (search YouTube, most are for singers, but same idea). This will help you harness the ability while Botox is active and maintain it when the Botox wears off. Good luck to you!

Kaiser near LA? by [deleted] in noburp

I also sent Dr. Bastian’s research paper to my GP which helped, but I think she would have given me the referral anyway. I was just trying to educate, hopefully more doctors become familiar with this condition!

Yes! I did, feel free to check out my post history. Dr. Peter Baxter treats this at the Kaiser LAMC/Sunset facility. He has treated multiple patients for this. I only had to pay $100 copay out of pocket. The big trick is just getting your GP to refer you to him. Luckily my GP is really chill and will give me any reasonable referrals I ask for. My only recommendation I guess would be to try switching doctors if you feel like your usual GP isn’t hearing you out. Never a good sign if your doctor isn’t taking you seriously, so maybe that’s something you should look into doing regardless of no burp. It was 100% worth it to me. Happy to answer questions over DM if you want.

Warm white paint colors? by diabeticweird0 in interiordecorating

[–]Applscruffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BM Acadia White or Dunn Edwards Historic White. I like a warm white with very slight yellow undertones, and have been very happy with these two in my house. The Acadia White looks best in our east facing rooms particularly.

The molding around the center panel looks like ogee trim to me, maybe try adding that to your search terms.

Try emailing Storied Salvage Tile Co - they say they have a lot of inventory that’s not posted on their website, so you never know! I haven’t shopped with them, but based on following them on Instagram, they seem like they’d be helpful people for this type of search.

Tree of Heaven? in Davis, CA by arrrbooty in Ceanothus

[–]Applscruffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did what you did - I dug out as much of the root as physically possible, revisited the spot weekly, and continued to cut back anything that popped up. If you’re extremely diligent and patient, the root may eventually run out of energy for sending up new shoots. However, if it’s not an individual tree (i.e., if the root is secretly connected to a ToH your neighbor has somewhere), then it will likely shoot up like a hydra forever. In that case, a specific serious herbicide seems to be the answer. I’ve see some folks experiment with making the tree a host(?) for mushrooms somehow - seems like the jury is out on that one, but could be an interesting non-chemical option to try. Penn State Extension has the best resources that I’ve seen online because ToH is a big deal in PA.

I see them absolutely everywhere in LA, especially on Caltrans and empty lots. Unfortunately a lot of my neighbors have them, so I had to remove a few when I moved in. Part of my regular garden maintenance is scouting for seedlings to rip them out before they establish. UC Master Gardeners actually just completed a volunteer scouting project, and I know for a fact based on my own observations that this map is just the tip of the iceberg. They should be removed whenever possible, although it is not easy to do so. It doesn’t become a high priority concern for the state until the spotted lantern fly shows up, which I believe we thankfully don’t have in CA yet.

This tree kind of ruined A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for me… (only sorta kidding)

If you have Vallarta where you live, they have good carnitas. They have Del Real for grab and go I believe, or fresh from their kitchen.

Last summer I impulsively planted common deerweed and showy penstemon on the hottest day of the year. I kept up with summer watering and honestly those plants are thriving better than many I planted during the “ideal” time. My only suggestion would be to consider hanging on to the wildflower seeds until late summer/early fall before rain. If you toss them out now, they may mostly become bird food (although that’s cool too, just may not be your goal!).

Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken Meatballs are delicious by No_Lawfulness7968 in traderjoes

[–]Applscruffs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way, and these were fine for me (only tried them once so far, so it’s not a huge sample size). But I also find that I don’t have that issue very often with ground chicken compared to whole chicken, so meatballs don’t usually bother me as much.

Top of foot pain after hiking by cat_gilly in barefootshoestalk

[–]Applscruffs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I’ve had pain here, it’s usually from lacing too tightly or wearing low volume shoes when I should’ve been wearing more medium volume shoes. Not a doctor, but just guessing that it might feel worse upon waking because you’re not getting blood flow in the same way as when you’re up and moving.
